Mel Tillis passes
Today we get the sad news that country music legend Mel Tillis has passed at the age of 85. Like most of his generation, Tillis was a veteran, he was a baker in the Air Force, according to Wiki. He dropped out of the University of Florida to enlist during the Korean War. He started his first band The Westerners while stationed in Okinawa.
Known for his stutter, he recorded more than 60 albums, and he loved to tell stories;

I remember when he first came to Branson MO, he and Shoji Tabuchi bagged on each other during their shows and off stage they were golfing and fishing buddies!

I had the pleasure of seeing Mel perform at a charity concert some years ago. While the other “performers” wore whatever they’d partied in the night before or whatever showed off the most skin, Mel wore a three-piece suit and showed them how it was done. A legend.
