Saudis blame Iran for missile fired at Riyadh airport
According to CNS, the Saudis are blaming Iran for a long range missile fired at the King Khalid International Airport near Riyadh. Saudi air defense soldiers were able to intercept the missile and no casualties or damage was reported. They claim that Houthis rebels in Yemen fired the smuggled missile in support of their Iranian allies.

Iranian Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami denied Iranian responsibility for the missile fired at the Saudi airport, and accused Iran’s enemies led by the U.S. of blaming it “for any event in the region.”
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari – the target last week of new U.S. Treasury sanctions – also denied Trump’s charge.
“We don’t have the means and possibility to send missiles to Yemen. These missiles have been manufactured by the Yemenis and their military industries,” he said, calling Trump’s claims the latest in a series of “baseless remarks” the president has leveled at Iran.
The Houthi defense establishment confirmed the Iranians’ denial according to the UK’s Express;
Yemen’s Houthi-controlled defence ministry said the missile attack “shook the Saudi capital” and branded the operation a success.
It added the ‘Burqan H-2’ missile was produced in Yemen.
Forces in Saudi Arabia have reported shooting down a number of missiles fired by the rebel group over the past few months.
The war in Yemen has been described as a “proxy war” between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Interesting.
The events in that region have been a little different recently.
One can only hope that the Muslim world will dissolve into theological chaos and that we would have the sense to stay the hell out of it.
Iran doesn’t have any long range missiles? Really? But they’ve been working on that for over 30 years, haven’t they?

Somebody help me out here: they do and they lie when they say they don’t, or they don’t and lie when they say they do. Which is it?
I’m sure there is no coincidence at all between us giving them a couple of billion dollars and them getting a whole bunch of new toys.
Everything in that region minus Israel is a proxy war between the Saudis and Iran. That is what Syria was and how it kicked off.
Here’s how it breaks down.
As Jonn says above, this conflict is a proxy war between Iran (Shia) and Saudi Arabia (Sunni). There is also a major Al Qaeda presence (remember the Cole).
The Houthi are a Shia insurgent group, and they control part of the country. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards, specifically the Quds Force, have been active in Yemen for several years.
They are called the Quds force after Jerusalem- in other words, Quds is the RGFC force charged with operations outside Iran. In other words, they are the RGFC version of Green Berets.
In Yemen, they have been advising the Houthi on adapting and improving weapons they get from elsewhere, including North Korea.
The H2 is basically the Yemeni Scud- it has a range of about 900 miles, plenty to hit Riyahd. It’s basically an improved Scud, and it’s being used against area targets like the airport and oilfields.
So, yes, Iran is to blame for this.
The Iranians don’t really have an intercontinental capability per se. They can range 1,500-200 miles and hit most of the ME and parts of Europe and Africa, but couldn’t really hit us- for now.
Of course, Iran uses a lot of North Korean technology.
A country which survives on agricultural exports wracked by a civil war is able to manufacture relatively sophisticated missiles on a total GDP of less than $75 billion? Pull the other one.
May I add that large parts of the electric grid are Paleolithic.
The Yemeni average I.Q. is probably in the lower range of the first quantile, infant malnutrition is a motherf**ker.
My thought was that the main product of Yemen was camel shit. Who would have thought they could produce missiles?/s What’s next, the Yemeni Tesla?
Any one got popcorn? When does the show start?
Hell with em all. Nuke em to the stone age, Chaos. Drop an extra one on Riyadh for me, too lol.
PSAB, Operation Southern Watch ’00
Nuking them to the Stone Age would be an improvement.
Thank God I never seriously considered going to do contract work in Saudi, let alone anywhere else in the ME.
