Bronson Cobble steals vets’ meds

| October 10, 2017

Chief Tango sends us a link to the Postal Employee Network which reports that contractor for the USPS, Bronson Cobble, was sentenced for pilfering 33 packages of medication from the Veterans’ Affairs Department to patients. Of course, it was pain medications that he stole and Cobble consumed the meds himself;

Bronson Cobble, a U.S. Postal Service contractor, will spend the next three years on probation and must pay $1,154.98 in restitution after pleading guilty in June to stealing 33 packages containing narcotics that were meant for Veterans Affairs patients.

Another wrist slap from the judicial system.

Ditto the judge who gave him that ridiculously light sentence. For narcotics theft, IMO he should have done at least the classic felony minimum (a year and a day) of hard time.

Heart of TEXAS (PSG, Ret.)

Minimum for each shipment he stole.

Ex-PH2

Contractor? What was his job, that it allowed him access to other peoples’ mail?

Nothing is safe from these thieves any more.

Berliner

Contractors are truck drivers that transport the mail from the distribution center to the stations.

Sj

A lot of contractors also deliver the mail to your mailbox, esp in rural areas. Sometime notice that POV’s are used on many routes, not USPS vehicles — contractors.

A friend and her family have had the route, as a contractor, in our hood for decades.

Yes, Sir, they are known (in USPS lingo) as RCA’s. (Rural Carrier Associates)

Didn’t Elvis have a singing contract with RCA after he left SUN Records?

Thank you…
Thank you very much…

The RCAs you mention are actual USPS employees. And we provide our own vehicles. There are contracted carriers in some areas, but not RCAs.

A friend of mine has complained he has had his meds not reach his mail box on numerous occasions.

Isn’t Mail theft a felony? Also drugs. Wtf no prison time?

More injustice.

Fjardeson

FC I was wondering about that. Theft of *any* mail I thought was a felony as well… and if it involves controlled substances doesn’t the DEA regs kick in?

Fjardeson

*don’t

Read once where Charles Manson did like 17 years in prison… trying to cash a check. Had he stolen a normal check and tried to cash it in-state he would have gotten less than a year – but he stole a Treasury check from a USPS mail box and took it over state lines before attempting to cash it.

That’s interesting. I know my VA Meds that I get via the mail come from Tennessee.
Medication pilfering is a HUGE problem.
EMTs and Nurses and even Doctors can get hooked on that shit. Once you become a Junkie that is your primary job description.
That and there is a huge demand for pain killers on the street. A single Oxycodene 30 mg pill can fetch 30-50 bucks.
A 30 day script is worth close to 4K

I’m supprised that Someone doesn’t run him over with a truck and drive him into the Cobble stone.

The Other Whitey

Fucking tweaked cocksucker should do hard time.

As much as I criticize the judge, I also criticize the prosecutors:

Prosecutors in a sentencing memorandum recommended a bottom-range sentence, saying his admission of guilt and request for court-appointed counsel makes him unlike most defendants and suggests a low risk of recidivism.

Seems like a lazy prosecutor more than anything else.

Lazy Prosecutors and “Let ’em Loose Bruce” Judges are one reason why we have so many repeat offenders.

Casey

I would say a prosecutor desperate to get conviction on record as quickly as possible.

I was having problems with receipt of packages ‘damaged in transit’. I would the packages to the VA and they would make me whole. Got tired of this so filed a complaint with postal authorities and the problem was solved. Oh, I still occasionally get a package that has been tampered with, but it’s now a rare matter.

HMC Ret

Most narcotics are prescribed for 2-3 per day, so if he crooked 33 packages x 2 per package that equals 66 pills per package x 33 packages = 2178 pills. He made out b/c, say, oxy goes for a minimum of $10 per pill up to $40 per pill. The high cost of prescription drugs has driven people to street drugs and the death rate is staggering. We have tremendous amounts of money for those here illegally but are unable to reach out to those suffering from the horrible affects of addiction.

Sj

I didn’t know they (VA/Express Scripts) mailed narcotics through the mail. Guess they would have to though for folks that aren’t near a facility. The Express Scripts bags are very recognizable and thus easy pickings.

John Robert Mallernee

I get my medications through the mail.

I haven’t had to use the VA for chronic pain meds for years. I believe I once got a 90 day supply via the mail.
A few years back the did a lot of reclassification that called for a Doctor to not be able to refill scripts after 30 days without a consult.
I don’t use the VA for pain control, I use a private doctor, and I don’t use Oxy or anything along those lines.
I do know that patients on those meds are required to submit Urine samples to check for proper levels to find out if they are using too much or perhaps selling their meds.

Ozzie

What really grinds my gears is the fact that some Veteran had to go without their meds because this fuckstick just HAD to steal them.

A fitting punishment would be for this dickbag to suffer the same amount of pain these Veterans suffered because they couldn’t get their meds.

HMC Ret

Ozzie: You nailed it. Going cold turkey after being on narcotics for a time is a tough road. Some veterans tried to con the system by telling the VA that their meds were stolen, just to get them replaced. That no longer is easily done b/c the VA requires a policy report before they would replace the narcotics. The thing was, it was just the narcotics that were stolen; the BP meds, psoriasis meds, etc., were rarely stolen. So the VA figured it out. Maybe there isn’t enough money to treat ALL who are hooked on narcotics, but there IS money to treat many thousands who are suffering greatly with withdrawal. Start by putting to work those who can work, kicking out those who don’t belong here, etc. Take care of our own, FIRST.

From 1999 to 2015, more than 183,000 people have died in the U.S. from overdoses related to prescription opioids.

Thats over 11,000 per year
