Dunford: US should assume we’re in range of North Korean nukes

| September 27, 2017

Stars & Stripes reports that Marine General Joseph Dunford, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the US should just assume that North Korea can target cities on our mainland with their nuclear weapons.

American intelligence officials believe North Korea could be able to strike the U.S. mainland as early as late 2018. Dunford, who is expected to be confirmed easily to serve a second term as chairman of the Joint Chiefs, said Tuesday that he agrees with that assessment.

“Whether it’s three months or six months or 18 months, it is soon,” he said. “We ought to conduct ourselves as though it is just a matter of time, a matter of very short time, before North Korea has that capability.”

The North Koreans claim that the US has declared war on them and they threaten to act like they’re at war with us, like they haven’t been doing that already.

Dunford, who did not specifically comment on the political rhetoric, said the United States, for now, is adequately protected against threats to U.S. territory. But he urged lawmakers to invest in upgrades to the nation’s ballistic missile defense, which will be needed as North Korea – and other nations – increase their capabilities.

“Frankly, I think we should assume today that North Korea has that capability and has the will to use that capability,” he said.

According to Newsweek the Russians have been flying their aircraft in practice runs at the Chinese and North Korean borders;

Russia, like China, formally opposes North Korea’s nuclear ambitions. However both Moscow and Beijing have blamed U.S. military backing of South Korea and Japan for Pyongyang scaling up its nuclear weapons program.

Earlier this month Russian President Vladimir Putin hinted that his country was coming to accept North Korea’s nuclear capabilities as a certainty rather than a possibility, telling the U.S. that irrespective of sanctions, North Koreans would “eat grass” if it meant acquiring nuclear arms.

Yeah, they’re already munching on grass. Next up – a nutritious dirt diet.

Well, that’s not exactly comforting, but not exactly unrealistic either.

Hey, Vlad, have you moved into that Black Sea retreat/bunker of yours yet?

If one of Nork’s nukes whacks the domiciles of some of those mouthier, malignant, festering pretend actors, I certainly would not object to that. I just don’t want it dropped on my house, that’s all.

Might be worth Putin noting that Moscow is 1000 miles closer to North Korea than Seattle is… when Kim can hit us, he will have long since been able to hit Putin.

This is a direct result of signing an armistice, rather than winning a war. Same shit happenedin Vietnam, where we had that whole “Peace with Honor” bullshit and next thing you know, the North was rolling over the border and now there’s just one Vietnam. A communist Vietnam.

Wars need to be brought to a conclusion, not a tie.

FROM NUKEMAP:

Estimated fatalities:
175,200
Estimated injuries:
459,080
In any given 24-hour period, there are approximately 1,503,405 people in the 1 psi range of the most recent detonation.
Modeling casualties from a nuclear attack is difficult. These numbers should be seen as evocative, not definitive. Fallout effects are ignored. For more information about the model, click here.

Forgot the fallout numbers. About 50 sq KM NE of 100 rad fallout (death possible, injury certain) approaching 3500 sq KM NE OF 1 RAD fallout (uninhabitable for years). Worse if westerly wind.

“Yeah, they’re already munching on grass.”

I remember reading accounts of them eating grass and tree bark just to stay alive when I was part of the 2ID Western Corridor in ’92-93 and that was when fatty Kim-Cheese’s Grandfather was in charge. WHO other than members of the Kim Dynasty have ever been the only fat people in Norkiland?
