Monday morning feel good stories
From Shreveport, Louisiana;
A Shreveport man was dressed as a female when he was shot by a homeowner during an alleged burglary, authorities said.
Investigators said 64-year-old Donald Weaver arrived at his home in the 1400 block of Oxford Street just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
When he found his property was being burglarized, he confronted the intruder and shot him once in his chest with a handgun.
Investigators said 26-year-old Jarico Carter was taken to University Health for treatment of a gunshot wound described as life-threatening.
The homeowner was released without being charged.
From Grand Rapids, Michigan;
A person came into the shop about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 and demanded cash.
After the robbery, an employee came running out of business, screaming for help.
Brian Triplett and his wife had just parked their car across the street at the Bagel Beanery and intended to go inside to view an ArtPrize entry painted by a relative.
Triplett heard the commotion, grabbed his .40 caliber handgun from the car and gave chase across the street. Triplett has the registered weapon for “open carry” purposes.
He chased the robber into a parking lot adjacent to the cleaners. That’s when the robber turned toward him and pointed what appeared to be a gun at him.
The robber was about 10 yards away.
Triplett said he fired one round at the robber but did not hit him.
“He turned around and pointed a weapon,” Triplett said, explaining why he fired.
Police confiscated his handgun but he expects to get it back at some point.
From Raytown, Missouri;
Police say a homeowner walked in on a burglar in his home. The suspect took out a handgun and fired shots at the homeowner.
The homeowner fired shots back, and the suspect ran outside to a vehicle where a second suspect was waiting. Both suspects fled the scene.
Police say no one was injured in the incident.

People need some range time.
Missed at 10 yards? Guy needs to go to find someone to teach him how to shoot.
I am all for 2A and carry rights. But if you can’t hit an active target at 10 yards, leave your boomstick at home until you can. You’re just more of a danger to those around you.
10 yards is hardly a gimme w/ a handgun (especially in a state of duress on a moving target) – that’s 30 feet. Maybe guys in SWAT & JSOC can do it w/o breaking a sweat. I ain’t gonna judge.
I dug into the comments section of that Michigan story because there appeared to be some important legal principles involved that the article didn’t really address…”fleeing felon”, “self defense”, “open carry”…in Virginia, I wouldn’t have gotten involved to the degree the “Good Samaritan” did and it’s not because I’m a coward. Start adding some racial demographics and I’m even less interested…
+1
Unless there is a danger to another person, once the perp is gone I’ll let the law track him/her/it/xe down.
Kind of surprised he is expecting his gun back. Unless you are the po-po, chasing someone down and exchanging shots is both foolish and probably illegal absent anything else. 10 yards may feel like point blank range at the range, but in the real world you are looking at a target less than 10 degrees wide thirty feet away. Not easy for a stressed amateur.
Bagel beanery? Shocked it hasn’t been shut down for being racist. Doubt Brian will get his gun back.
We have a coffee shop chain that used to be called Beaners. Yep, they changed their name to Biggby Coffee, to be PC.
The guy going to the bagel place should not be playing cop by going after the perp after the fact when there was no danger to him or the store clerk. Most robbers are there just for the money and want to leave without shooting up the place. Of course there are the exceptions to what I stated. I thought bagel shops were only in NY and South Florida.
