Monday morning feel good stories
Hack Stone sends us a story from Woodbury, New Jersey;
Woodbury police responded to a report of shoplifting at 3:50 a.m. The suspect ran when officers attempted to speak to him, and entered the lake behind the Carriage House Apartments on Evergreen Avenue, according to preliminary findings by prosecutors.
The suspect refused commands to leave the water and swam under the Evergreen Avenue bridge, officials said. Police lost sight of him, and emergency responders in a Woodbury fire company boat were unable to find him.
A New Jersey State Police dive team recovered the man’s body at 10:30 a.m., the Prosecutor’s Office said. An autopsy by the county Medical Examiner’s Office found the cause of death to be accidental drowning.
From Miami, Florida;
A rookie Miami police officer fatally shot a man stabbing a woman in Miami Lakes on Sunday morning, according to the head of the local police union.
Javier Ortiz, president of Miami Fraternal Order of Police, said the officer heading home from work saw a woman being stabbed near Miami Lakes Middle School, 6425 Miami Lakeway North.
Ortiz said the officer will be put on desk duty during the investigation.
“On behalf of the FOP, there is no doubt in our mind that when the investigation is completed, this officer will be declared a hero,” Ortiz said. “If it wasn’t for the swift actions of this officer, we would not only have had just one homicide here, we would’ve had a victim that would’ve been tragically injured.”
USAFRetired sends a link from Warner Robins, Georgia;
Police believe Cartrell Brooks, 24, forced his way inside the apartment armed with a gun and was shot, Parson said. Malandon West, 26, and James Alderson, 26, were inside the apartment. Parson said exactly what happened and who did the shooting is still being investigated. No one has been charged at this time, she said.
The shooting happened at Lake Vista Apartments off North Lake Drive. Investigators were still on the scene there after noon Sunday.
Brooks was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Drown rather than talk to the police…..*sigh*
chug 6 pitchers, get thrown out of the tavern and go shoplifting @ 4am, a morning swim is nice but he couldn’t remember how.
No shots fired, no ammo wasted, perp killed self. I like it. Clean, simple, no one charged, no taxpayer money wasted.
Why can’t all perps “off” themselves like this?
Shoplifting at 0350?? Likely a “sudden” need for crack, meth or heroin….thus the lack of reasonable decision making re: drowning.
Years ago, we had a burglar flee a B&E at a Motorcycle dealership. He ran across the bridge right next to the dealership, saw several police cars approaching, turned, saw 2 officers on foot coming from the other direction, and jumped over the railing.
The river flows pretty fast in that area, he couldn’t swim.
His body was recovered about a mile or so downstream.
My body lies over the ocean, my body lies over the sea, my body lies over the ocean, but this is a river you see. A poet, and I don’t even know it.
…but your feet show it. They’re Longfellows.
@John Seabee. I guess we can call that a Foot note.
Some years ago we had a convicted murder escape. The prison is in a remote location near the Trinity River. He managed to lose the dogs, and they had the area cordoned off for days, before some off-duty prison guards found his body in a creek where they were fishing.
He’d tried to swim the creek, and gotten caught in a trotline underwater.
Pretty much a just end to a miserable life.
