First “Marines United” court martial conviction
Military.com reports that the first Marine has been convicted in a summary court martial for his participation in the Facebook group “Marines United” where folks shared pictures of fellow Marines in various stages of undress for community commentary;
He pleaded guilty at summary court-martial June 29, according to a Marine Corps news release, and was sentenced to 10 days’ confinement, demotion by three ranks, and forfeiture of two-thirds of his pay for one month. The Corps is also moving forward with efforts to administratively separate him from the service.
The Marine was not identified or described by rank or unit.
Marine Corps spokesman Maj. Brian Block told Military.com that a summary court-martial is considered an administrative proceeding, unlike general and special courts-martial, and that the Marine was therefore protected from identification through the Privacy Act of 1974.
The article continues that other Marines have been dealt with outside of the court martial process;
Of these persons of interest, 67 are active-duty or reserve Marines, while 22 are civilians. While NCIS continues to investigate five of the cases involving Marines, the other 62 have already been passed to relevant Marine Corps commands for punitive or legal action.
In addition to the one summary court-martial, there have been two administrative separations, seven non-judicial punishments, and 22 other adverse administrative actions, according to the release.
“These cases span beyond the Marines United Facebook page and include a spectrum of behavior,” Block said in the release. “While many cases involve photos, clothed or explicit, some involve verbal remarks without images.”
Nothing you do on the internet is completely anonymous.

I’m confused. I was under the impression that those whose pictures were posted were aware of it. If that’s the case,are they victims. But, I didn’t follow the whole story.

I never joined that group but now I wish I would have. The Corps seems to be all hell bent to identify who was posting there even if they were discharged long before the group was even founded.
Makes me wonder why the Marine Corps Rear Echelon Commandos can’t seem to be able to identify the KIA and Wounded in action from Beirut.
It seems they are more interested in finding people that comment on titties than notifying the loved ones of those killed by Iranian sponsored terrorism that they may qualify for compensation.

I don’t disagree, but would offer the following thought. Part of this is driven by congress and (until recently) the administration. The ship hasn’t come about fully yet and I think those in the Grand Puzzle Palace in DC are still acting as if Omama – or whatever his name is – was still in charge. Even WITH the change in administration there are still congressional shit-heads and the press to apply pressure over things like this. That creates an overreaction for the sake of “optics”. (E.g. Dead Taliban peeing, SS Flag showing.) I am SO GLAD that Gen Mattis is in charge, but it is going to take time to make things sane again – if that is possible in 2017.
What would help in all things would be if the people that are on our side politically (or are at leadt ostensibly on our side – talking to you, GOP) would ignore the news. When CNN, MSNBC, etc. say that people are outraged, it is THEY who are outraged and the rest of the US either supports what caused the outrage or just don’t care.

Second, this is completely different from a girl working at Hooters. These are Marines, many of whom were photographed without their permission, and those photos posted online by other Marines. The Marine just convicted was active duty as were many of the victims. Even if they weren’t what about that Marine For Life stuff I always hear?
What REMFS have infested the Marine Corps leadership. The Commandant is an infantry Marine with an impressive record, the SMMC is an artilleryman, and the Vice is a Snake Driver who was the ANGLICO to freakin 1st Recon bn/1st MARDIV. What did you do in the Marines.
