Marines injured at Miramar
Chief Tango sends us a link to an article which reports that two Marines were seriously injured when they were working on an aircraft at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego late last night;
Both Marines were rushed to UC-San Diego Regional Burn Center for treatment, according to a statement.
Stahl said the duo belong to a reserve squadron based in Fort Worth, Texas. The injured service members were not immediately identified.
The F/A-18 Hornet was damaged during the explosion and its cause was not known.
Because you don’t have to go to war to be injured in the military.

Get well Marines.
Amen – hopefully with complete recovery and minimal scarring.
Many moons ago, I used to work on Hornets as a Plane Captain and as an Airframer.
Three possibilities immediately come to mind:
1) Arc Flash when they hooked up shore power, by having the cord hot, before plugging into aircraft.
2) Fueling aircraft and not having it properly grounded.
3) A CAD (Squib) went off while they were installing it into a weapons station.
Regardless of the cause, I hope they aren’t hurt too bad.
Where is PM magazine when ya need it? Old Sarge would know proper sequence
Shit, do they still publish that?
“Old Sarge” made me laugh because, yes, they still do.

Naval Safety Center published(s) Mech Magazine, where Sailors and Marines in the Aviation community could share near misses and incidents with the fleet in order to inform others of what not to do.
I assume PM Magazine is similar?
The Naval Safety Center also used to publish ‘Approach’ magazine for Navy and Marine Corps aircrew.
It was always full of good, relevant Naval Aviation safety ‘gouge’. Lots of near misses, incidents, and ‘what not to do’.
I preferred Connie Rodd, myself. Altogether an excellent publication.

I used to enjoy that “PM” magazine, even when I was an Army brat, mainly because of that well-endowed blonde wearing the short shorts!
But, with no more Women’s Army Corps (i.e., the “WAC”), the females joined the ranks, and the modern Army got rid of her.
Never again will troops march past the WAC barracks to the cadence of, “Count Cadence, Delayed Cadence, WAC Cadence, Count!”
I wasn’t there to see it, but I remember some sergeant saying the Signal Corps school had to find a new way to describe electrical connections, as “male” and “female” connectors were now disapproved of.
And, even worse, was memorizing the color code for resistors, which went like this:
“Bad Boys Rape Our Young Girls, But Violet Gives Willingly.”
Actually, as a Mormon convert, I never liked that color code memorization help, nor did I like the marching song in Basic Combat Training of a naked woman drinking whiskey through a straw.
It was tough being a Mormon convert, young, male, healthy, lonely, tempted, overseas, and physically HORNY all of the time!
Anyway, I do miss the old “PM” magazine, with Sergeant Halftrack.
OOPS!
It was Sergeant Halfmast, not Sergeant Halftrack.
And the blonde – – – ?
Connie Rodd!
This is a dreadful thing. I hope these two men recover well from this.
I hope these two Marines recover well.
Prayers and best wishes to the injured Marines
The two injured Marines are reported to be assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112 (VMFA-112 “Cowboys”), which is a Marine Corps Reserve squadron in Marine Aircraft Group 41, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, based at NASJRB Fort Worth, Texas.
I haven’t heard/seen anything official from the Marine Corps yet as to what may have actually happened during this mishap.
