Navy’s “Supply Officer of the Year” Sentenced

| May 12, 2017

According to the Department of Justice, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Gentry Debord, who was named U.S. Navy Supply Officer of the Year, was sentenced to thirty months in the Gray Bar Hotel for his part in the “Fat Leonard” Espionage case;

Debord, 41, who pleaded guilty in October 2016 to a bribery charge, was also ordered to pay a $15,000 fine and $37,000 in restitution to the Navy. Debord has admitted that he accepted cash, luxury hotels and prostitutes from foreign defense contractor Leonard Glenn Francis between 2007 and 2013. In return he provided proprietary Navy information that benefitted Francis’ company, Singapore-based Glenn Defense Marine Asia.

During today’s hearing, U.S. District Judge Janis L. Sammartino told the defendant that he picked the wrong side. “You were clearly on their team and not the Navy’s team.”

Acting U.S. Attorney Alana Robinson said: “This is a fitting sentence for a man who sullied his stripes with such despicable behavior. We will continue to move forward in this investigation until all involved are held accountable.”

According to his plea agreement, from November 2007 to January 2013, Debord provided Francis and others with internal, proprietary U.S. Navy information; directed Francis and GDMA to inflate invoices to reflect services not rendered; advocated for the U.S. Navy to procure items from GDMA under its husbanding contracts; and otherwise used his position and influence in the U.S. Navy to advocate for and advance GDMA’s interests, as opportunities arose.

It looks like the Navy needs a war to occupy their personnel. Idle hands are the Devil’s workshop.

Will he loose his retirement?

Devtun

Almost certain the Navy will dismiss him (essentially officer version of dishonorable discharge). Loses his freedom, has to pay a big ass fine, and loses his benefits. If he has family – they will bear the brunt of his greed & stupidity.

A wife and two kids if I am not mistaken.

From “Supply Officer of the Year” to potential “Inmate of the Year.” Congrats, Debord.

I must be doing something wrong as a Contracting Officers Rep – I haven’t gotten my luxury hotels, cash, or even prostitutes.

Yet b/c he did, I get to go back thru a week of resident refresher and ethics training. I hope he’s getting some “perks” in the slammer.

MSG Eric

With the amount of rules for just basic contracting it is stifling how some can get this deep into a hole like this.

Let alone, an O-4 makes a nice chunk o’ money. Such a dumbass.

No different than the nineties. I was a hat in San Diego. they had an all hands class (literally every Drill Instructor in MCRD San Diego. The regimental commander had to give a class on sexual harassment due to tail hook. After the hour class, he asked if anyone had questions. One brave soul, I didn’t know the guy, asked why we were there, as we were all enlisted, and tail hook was a purely officer affair. It was one of the most stunning moments of irony I saw in 21 years. It really was majestic, the irony, the Colonel hemming and hawing, had I known the guy, I would have bought him a bottle of Scotch in tribute.

Ex-PH2

Calling him a pig is an insult to pigs. I hope he had fun getting l–d.

Another reason this makes me happy is, I don’t have to see Corrine Brown and Maxine Waters staring at me when I open TAH. Thanks!

He repaid the country’s trust in him for a roll in the hay. I don’t give a hoot about him, but his family, if any, lose all benefits. We’ve discussed this previously. Nice if there was some provision to protect the family as he falls on his sword. He’s nothing less than a traitor. If I had one question of him, I would ask WHY he did what he did? WHY?

ChipNASA

Cash and Pussy. Isn’t that enough?

Hondo

No, ChipNASA – for what he did, it’s not enough. But it’s probably why.

Mick

Stay tuned, kids!

There’s a lot more of this Fat Leonard crap still to come…

30 months of being a regular “diner” and the BTJT Deli (Home of the World-famous COCKMEAT SAMMICH and GHEY WHEY SHAKE)!

Hopefully his spouse divorced his ass before this went to trial as got something from him… ’cause he wont have shit after his time in the poundhimintheass federal prison.

I’m curious as to why the Navy deferred prosecution to the DOJ in the civilian court system.

Was there some sort of question whether or not the Navy would be impartial in its prosecution?

I mean, since it goes all the way up to Adm Ted Branch. (Ol’ Ted was our Navigator on USS Forrestal during the 1989-90 Med Cruise)

Devtun

Passing along sensitive gov’t info or material to fatboy Leonard is probably why. Just my guess.

Martinjmpr

I have a vague recollection of reading somewhere that – contrary to what you might assume – military courts martial generally assess much lighter sentences for the same crimes than their civilian counterparts do (see, for example, Lt. Calley who was convicted in his part of the My Lai massacre and was sentenced to – a year of house arrest, I believe. A civilian court would almost certainly have sent him to prison if not the gallows.)

So it may be that in the interest of making sure the good LtCmdr was properly punished, his fate was handed over to a civilian court.

It also conveniently prevented his former fellow officers from being the ones to drop the axe, which may have eased their consciences a bit.

Another one bites the dust. If I could ever see U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Gentry Debord (I guess it’s “FORMER USN Lieutenant Commander” now) I’d love to say something like “Hey asshat, was it really worth it?”.

AW1Ed

2.5 years, fines, RinR to zip point shit, and loss of all pay and allowances doesn’t seem sufficient to me. Plea deal from lazy Federal prosecutors, no doubt.

Another officer who needs to be placed on suicide watch..between what he did with the ‘perks’,what shame and sadness he brought to his family, his reputation and his country..it’s an easy way out. Watch him.
