Gata guilty

Mick sends us the news from Fox News that former Congresswoman Corrine Brown was found guilty in a Florida courtroom of 18 fraud and tax evasion charges. She was found not guilty of four charges.
Brown served as a Florida representative in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 until 2017. She was defeated in her 2016 primary race.
[…]
“Congresswoman Brown and her chief of staff are alleged to have used the congresswoman’s official position to solicit over $800,000 in donations to a supposed charitable organization, only to use that organization as a personal slush fund,” Assistant U.S. Attorney General Leslie Caldwell, chief of the Justice Department’s criminal division, said in a statement earlier this year.
The Florida Times reports that she will remain free while awaiting sentencing.
Jurors were told the brash 70-year-old Democratic icon, who spent 24 years in Congress before losing reelection last year, received $141,000 in untraceable cash over several years through sources including the sham charity One Door for Education and her Friends of Corrine Brown campaign committee.
An FBI accountant testified Brown, who earned around $175,000 a year as a member of Congress with a pension from the Florida Legislature, spent an average of $1,438 per month more than her reported income.
I don’t expect her to get any jail time.

Now if a jury somewhere would finds her west coast sister guilty….

– I didn’t know James Brown had a brother..
Put her in the stocks!
BOOM.
I hope that they do ultimately put her behind bars, and for a long time. It’s well past time for the public to stop all of these corrupt politicians from repeatedly getting away with this kind of brazen criminal bullshit.
That said, I sadly believe that Jonn is correct. She’ll probably skate on all of this, spin it to portray herself as a ‘victim’, and then laugh all the way to the bank.
I’m not surprised she was found guilty.
I’m surprised:”She was defeated in her 2016 primary race.” I guess her constituents finally realized she didn’t feel their pain, but felt for their wallets.
$175K annually wasn’t enough? Throw in the other bennies and how much was she pulling in? A lot more than $175K.
Yeah, she’ll probably get a token jail/prison sentence followed by a decade of monthly meet-n-greets with her PO. It’s not like she will ever again be in a position to rip off people. I hope. Well, she can write a book. She will need a ghostwriter b/c she is genuinely too stupid to write it herself. How she pulled off this scam for so long is beyond me.
Jeez, how I despise those in whom we place our well being who turn out to be the moral equivalent of pond scum.
she could write a book all she wants, but according to Fed Law, she cannot make any money from it. IIRC, felons cannot wrote about their crimes and publish them, and then earn money from the publication of the work. The money earned would be garnished until her thievery of said funds was paid back in full. I could be wrong. It is called the Son of Sam Law (asset forfeiture). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_of_Sam_law
No, you’re correct about the law and all. But I do believe due to the huge loophole in the Son of Sam law, if it’s considered a “victimless crime” they may profit from the sale. I’m not sure how it would work in this case. I just watched something about that law today and thought the loophole was crap. Not many “victimless” crimes I can think of, or else why would it be illegal? Someone is always hurt in some way some shape or another by a crime.
And that is two ugly harridans in a row on TAH.
Both need to spend some quality time behind bars. I suggest that as a cost saving measure, we pay a Mexican prison to house them for the next 40 years. Or Venezuelan. Either one.
If all of us on TAH chip in, I’m sure we can afford the $3.25 it would cost to do that.
For all forty years. For both of them.
Corrine Brown and Maxine Waters should get together and do long division. That should make both their heads explode as their wigs hit the ceiling.
I’ll just leave this here. Another fine example of these two highly refined ladies conducting ‘the people’s business’ on an important issue.
‘Maxine Waters and Corrine Brown: Magic vs. Lakers’
At least the time they spend trash talkin’ each other is time neither is meddlin’ in MY bidness.
Unfortunately, it is your bidness always because your tax dollars pay them to stand around doing nothing productive about 365 days a year.
She was found innocent of ugly evasion.
Too mean?
Not at all.
I pray this nag spends at least 10 years in the big house, she has been the most corrupt politician I have ever seen. She always plays the race card from a stacked deck! I am afraid Jonn is right, she will probably get off with probation or less than 2 years. I think she should get life!
Let’s say after taxes she had $113,000 left per year. Divided by 12 months = $9416.00. Add the $1,438.00 more she spent per month and that = roughly $10,854 per month this public servant spent on expenses. Did I get that right? I don’t know about you, but someone with that much cash certainly does NOT represent me. I am almost positive it was more than that cause you know, politicians have all kinds of side incomes.
I think the number I saw was somewhere around 60%? of Congressional members are millionaires.
I doubt all of them were millionaires before they got into Congress. John McCain was definitely not one, he was a Naval Aviator before he was elected to the Senate. He owns 6 houses now. He’s not the only one with multiple houses. Our favorite popular “Socialist” owns 3 houses while also wanting to give other people, other people’s money for “free”, just not his own.
I hate to defend McCain, but he mostly did it the old fashioned way and married the boss’ daughter
There truly aren’t enough boss’ daughters out there for us average dudes. It just sucks, should be a Constitutional requirement to have more boss’ daughters available.
That’s gonna leave a mark, and looking at that face she really can’t afford to have that happen.
Running a charity as a slush fund… wonder where that idea came from.
DNC playbook.
You mean like The Clinton Global Initiative?
Gerrymandered turd…
Go Gata’s!
Tim Tivo must be so proud.
I doubt he’s more proud than Irvin Mayas.
That’s “corch” Irvin Mayas. I love ebonics.
I gradulate you on ya betta rasponse.
How about we chip and buy one of Corrine Brown’s Florida style Caucasian wig-hats and give it to BrokeButt Bernath as a going away gift?
DannyBoi has a date with destiny coming, next Tuesday, at 09:30. He’ll want to look his best when he meets his new “wife”.
Too bad we can’t put that shit on FB Live.
What makes you think that Bernath will be the man in the relationship? He always dreamed of being a June Prison Bride.
Hehe, well that’s why I put the quote marks around “wife”! SplitButt Bernasty can take turns being the “wife”, like John McVain and NancyBoy Graham. Albeit, Graham probably wears a Donna Reed house dress better than “Maverick”.
“I am a woman of integrity and I categorically deny the charges.” Corrine Brown
“I am fighting the Department of Justice, which has unlimited resources. They have smeared my good name. They are trying to take my freedom. I am asking for your help to fight these false charges. On this website, you can make a donation to my legal defense fund. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.”
The stupid old bitch asked for donations after being indicted for misappropriating donations.
But, its okay because she’s a democrat.
“I am a woman of integrity and I categorically deny the charges.” said Corrine Brown.
Through an interpreter I’m guessing.
You’re correct, in a way. It was taken from a letter she wrote in response to the indictment. In actuality, I have no doubt an aide rewrote the letter Corrine penned which, I hear, went something like this: These white ass motherfuckers is after me. I didn’t due nothin’.
You sure? I heard it was more like “Ah dinn du nuffin.”
“DA MAN KEEPING MY ASS AND DA GATA’S DOWN!!”
I wish she would hang from a street corner lamp post. And I don’t give a fuck if she’s black or any other color.
What’s the over/under on her suddenly contracting a host of illnesses which would result in her death if she spent more than an hour in jail?
She should have pulled a Bernath and dropped a Catheter bag from her purse while exiting the court,
Claymore. Fast Freddie reports the following events and odds:
The over/under on her being hospitalized is three days before her sentencing date.
The odds that she catches some time: 2-5.
It’s even money that she catches 1-2 years; 9-2 that she pulls 2-3 years; 10-1 3-5 yrs, and; 25-1 that gets more than 5.
The odds that she collapses in court:
1-9.
She’s a Democrat, so she won’t get any jail time or any media coverage. If a Republican were even being investigated for this, even if there were no grounds, it would be on 24/7.
A Republican, especially President Trump, could cut a fart while visiting overseas and the leftist liberal media would accuse him of using chemical weapons!
This story was covered by every major news outlet including most of the ones you would consider “liberal”; CNN, New York Times, Daily Beast, Raw Story, The Atlantic, The Daily Caller.
Notably absent; Huffington Post (essentially a DNC establishment propaganda rag at this point), and MSNBC; the DNC PR firm.
Considering the numbers I would say the media coverage has been fairly balanced as far as attention to convicted politicians. Right wing sources tend to give conservative convictions a pass in the news as well.

Kennedy and Khrushchev, Berkeley-boi. Got an answer yet? Or are you avoiding answering the question because you don’t have an answer?
And no – you haven’t “already made your position clear” or otherwise answered the question. Don’t even try that BS as your reason for not answering.
Nice try.
Or did you forget Dennis Hastert? Or Randy Cunningham? Or Foley?
Yeah, Democrats love them some gheys, until they’re a Republican, and then it’s, “Faggot! Get him!”
Considering the numbers I would say the media coverage has been fairly balanced as far as attention to convicted politicians. Right wing sources tend to give conservative convictions a pass in the news as well. After reading that, I got curious. So I decided to check this claim by Berkeley-boi out. The claim seems logically inconsistent – seems to me it’s hard for coverage to be “fairly balanced” if one side side of the political spectrum (which constitutes the vast majority of the media outlets) is skewing their stories one way and the other side )a small minority) is skewing their stories in the opposite direction. So I decided to ignore the first part of this inconsistent claim and instead focused on second part: his assertion that “right wing” news outlets “give Republicans a pass” and “play up” legal issues by Democrats. To do that, I looked at the list he provided above. I then took the 8 Federal Executive-branch and Legislative-branch officials on that list who got in legal trouble during the last Administration – and checked out how their legal troubles were treated by Fox News. That’s one that Berkeley-boi presumably would consider a “right-wing source”. I excluded the lone Federal judge that appears on that part of the list because Federal judges are IMO likely treated differently in the press than elected officials or Executive-branch political appointees (who appear to get similar treatment). It’s also kinda hard to compare the difference in treatment given to different political parties when you only have a sample of one in a particular category. (smile) Here’s what I found. The first 5 below are Republicans; the last 3, Democrats. 1. David Petraeus: a Google search using the search terms “David Petraeus guilty site:foxnews.com” yields 445 results. 2. Dennis Hastert: a Google search using the search terms “Dennis Hastert guilty site:foxnews.com” yields 182 hits. 3. Michael Grimm: a Google search using the search terms “Michael Grimm guilty site:foxnews.com” yields 106 hits. 4. Trey Radel: a Google search using the search terms “Trey Radel guilty plea site:foxnews.com” yields 45 hits. 5. Rick Renzi:… Read more »
Damn the facts, full speed ahead!
BURN!
Randy Cunningham is a former Republican Congress Critter from California who played Footsies with defense contractors.
He was sentenced to 8 years and served 7, so yes Mizz Gata can carry her ass to jail as well.
She was found guilty on 18 counts all told.
mail and wire fraud are 20 years per count
Tax evasion is 3 years per and hiding income is 5 years.
Even if they only sentence her once for each crime, that’s 28 years.
Given sentencing Guidelines that HAVE to be followed I don’t she her walking.
Problem is, and I’m not justifying it on any level, the money involved with Brown is penny change compared to what Cunningham took.
He richly deserved everything he got, and then some.
JAOD has a point. If I recall correctly, Federal sentencing guidelines are generally followed closely by Federal judges. (One of our lawyer commenters, please correct me if I’m wrong.) If those guidelines say she gets time, then she’ll almost certainly get time.
I’m guessing any time required under Federal sentencing guidelines will be concurrent vice consecutive – but one can hope.
Addendum: did a bit of additional quick checking, and it appears to me that what Brown did qualifies as a Level 10 fraud (it involved a sham charity and was for between $120k and $200k). If so, as I read them the sentencing guidelines seem to say 6-12 months time is appropriate for someone with no prior criminal history. Not a lawyer, so it’s entirely possible I screwed up the application of the guidelines.
Either way, the phrase “convicted felon Corrine Brown” has a nice ring to it.
You’re so humble Hondo. You are OUR lawyer commenter!
Quality time in a Club Fed, a la Martha Stewart.
SEA,
I agree that Cunningham was treated correctly. As a matter of fact he is still getting his military pension garnished and pretty sure he completely lost his congressional pension. He is living somewhere in Arkansas now I believe. I read some blurb where he was trying to get a permit to own a firearm and the judge told him ” fuck no, you are just another felon”.
The only reason Brown didn’t steal more is because she is too fucking stupid to get in with big time Contractors.
In a way it’s even more despicable because she stole from people who donated to help educate underprivedged youth.
Shes a fucking poverty pimp.
Now, the IRS can assrape her legitimately for income tax evasion. That just about always results in prison time. Uncle Sugar does NOT like getting cut out of anything that looks like income.
Explain Al Franken.
Al Franken is Einstein compared to this life -support system for a fucked up weave.
Miss Dinnit DoNuffin, Florida’s finest….
