Friday morning feel good stories
Tonya Brooks stopped a burglar breaking into her Jackson, Mississippi home with a crowbar just by showing her firearm. Darrell Chaffin was arrested nearby and charged with burglary. She claims that she stood in the street and shot at him a few times to take back her streets. I’m sure it will look good in the Lifetime Movie of the incident.
John Ussery, Jr., 34, was arrested at the end of his seven-home crime spree in Lousville, Kentucky when Jeff Austerman who was working nearby Ussery’s last crime and happened to be armed. He held Ussery at gun point until the police came to take him away.
In Tonopah, Arizona, a state trooper investigating a roll-over crash was shot by the suspect, a passenger in the wreck – the driver, a woman, was dead at the scene. A passerby rescued the officer from his assailant by shooting the crook several times. The crook was DRT (dead right there). The injured trooper is getting his wounded shoulder treated.
A homeowner in Independence, Missouri shot a man he caught burglarizing his vehicle. The getaway driver took the wounded man to the hospital where both were arrested.
A few weeks ago, George Berry, 30, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, shot 27-year-old Nicholas Aviles, a career burglar, when Berry caught him stealing his tools and Aviles came at Barry in a threatening manner. Berry is facing charges of first-degree assault and attempted first-degree assault. But, you know, it’s Connecticut where criminals are in charge.

5 incidents of good citizens using their firearms to stop criminals. In one case the citizen didn’t even have to fire her weapon at the guy. And one of the first rules of keeping yourself safe is to select a safe place to live. If the gun laws in your state favor criminals while obstructing your GOD given right to self preservation, you are living in the wrong place. The 2nd Amendment does not “give” us the right to keep and bear arms, it “guarantees” that right, that we were born with.
But since the Leftists believe there is no God but themselves, they don’t recognize the rights with which we are endowed by our Creator.
Theology matters.
I have to reluctantly visit CT a few times a year…I will not bring a firearm along due to the oppressive anti-gun laws, which is why I only reluctantly visit a few times a year. Hell, found out through a little research that my tiny trusty pocket folder was illegal in NYC because it could be opened (difficultly) with a practiced wrist flick. Of course, the criminals do what they want anyway but I’m effectively disarmed.
I’m 100% behind updating the laws to allow CHL recognition in all states, but the real problem is consistency between the laws that allow me to use my weapon. In Texas I can legally plug a scumbag stealing my property at night without him having to threaten me first. Obviously in CT the law there is different.
What good is being able to legally carry in all 50 states going to do me if I have to memorize another patchwork quilt of stupid, inconsistent laws?
CT and MA have these stupid “duty to retreat” concepts in the law….that’s great if we’re all considered equal, but now that I’m really, really close to my retirement I have to confess that I am not as fast as I used to be, so I’m pretty certain I can’t outrun most of the guys who’d be robbing my home or garage. I intend to defend myself without running and take my chances in court…beats finding out the hard way I was right and my attacker is faster on his feet at 25-35 than this old fart.
Judged by 12 vs. Carried by 6?
Novel concept.
the inherent discrepancy between state’s rights and Federal mandates. Ought to be Castle Doctrine, Stand Your Ground, and CHL reciprocity between all states – but then you have a Federal bureaucracy mandating minimums for licensing, self-defence etc. Sure as hell do not want the average Washingtonian doing that.
Fuck CT. Another in the list to never pass through.
Man … remind me to never visit Connecticut!
I’ve never been more proud of Arizona.
Amen !!!!
It was on the morning talk show again what happened is epic. That passerby is a hero the
DPS officer is doing well and the wannabe hit man from California is DRT X6
They should stick to PRC next time and stay the hell out of our desert ?
If I recall correctly, a large percentage of the population of CT works in NYC and lives in CT. Or at least, it used to be that way. It may have changed, but it had to do with having room for horses and skiing and similar things, and the public schools in NYC were hardly the best back in the 1960s and 1970s. That may have changed since a revival of some of the boroughs.
It’s kind of like living in Indiana and working in Chicago – you put up with the commute because the pay is so good. On the other hand, the crime rate in Chitown is up and rising, and there are no boundaries to it. Mag Mile is a huge target zone. Just glad I moved out.
That is true of my goddaughter’s family. They live in CT, her father takes the train to NYC daily.
Goddaughter and her brother go to a very nice private school (their father makes some good money, needless to say) and are in a fairly nice area.
Skiing and boating are nice there as well.
I chortle a bit ’cause when we went to visit & went through NYC (some years ago before nekkid people were all over Times Square) I, as the true Texas boy I am, had my knife at all times. Prob’ly would have given 1/2 the folks there the vapors if they’d known.
The lady is Mississippi is lucky she is there, in many jurisdictions she would be charged – when she started shooting he was in the street driving away, from what the article says. As it was a cul-de-sac, I would bet any half-way decent lawyer could probably get him off any assault charges as self-defense. The burglary charge? Not so much…
I just got back from visiting family in Jackson, the cops will probably drop her off a box of ammo or take her for a little range time. There attitude there is she’s helping take out the trash. Gotta love the South!
I can think of one cop that does not support the International Chiefs of Police’s efforts at gun control.
Thankfully an armed citizen was there to help. As for the lay in MS that decided to let loose rounds from the street at a bugler, don’t do that folks. At least go onto your property and do it.
I would feel better about these feel good stories if there were no facebook involvement in any way associated with them.
