Military prefers Trump to Obama

| January 9, 2017

The US News and World Report noticed that active duty military folks will seemingly prefer their lives under Trump more than they liked serving Obama. Easy to figure, since their pay lost pace with inflation, they’re struggling with manpower shortages, training dollars are drying up, equipment is breaking and there’s no repair parts in the pipeline. But anyway;

More than half the troops in a new poll had an unfavorable opinion of Obama’s leadership of the military for the past eight years, and about 36 percent said they approved of his performance as commander in chief, according to the latest survey by the Military Times and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University.

Nearly 49 percent of service members who voted in the November election cast their ballots for Republican Donald Trump, who was very critical of Obama, while 29 percent voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton, who was Obama’s secretary of state.

[…]

The survey found that 29.1 percent of military personnel rated the president very unfavorably and 22.4 percent rated him somewhat unfavorably – 51.5 percent negative. Eighteen percent rated him very favorably and 18.4 percent somewhat favorably – 36.4 percent positive. About 12.1 percent were neutral.

About 60 percent of women and 57 percent of minorities in the military approved of the job performance of Obama, the first African-American president.

Probably comparable to statistics following the Carter and Clinton administrations. The troops aren’t blood thirsty – they just want the administration to shit or get off the pot. Either fight the wars or don’t. It’s impossible to do both at the same time like the Obama Administration has done for eight years.

It makes you wonder how the IAVA and VoteVets could back sending Democrats in the White House while claiming that they support the troops – there’s a pattern here that someone might have missed.

How could any service man approve of the anointed ones treatment of the armed services? Much less how could they even support Clintoon? She would rather spit in their faces rather than salute them! I am so happy that miserable witch lost and I hope that now our country is saved!!!

GR_ATC

There are many who join the military expecting welfare (pay for non-work). These individuals would support the out-going administration and wish for it to continue. These fine folks are fixing to get a wake-up call as their hurt-feelings reports will not longer protect them.

Yef

I would love to see an age and a rank breakdown of that poll.
I have seen quite a few officers and junior enlisted to openly support the Dems and Barry Bananas.

The percentages they claim for females and minorities match my personal observations. The power of the Dem propaganda machine is felt in the military just as much as in the civilian world.

Just An Old Dog

Bingo,
The military has always had it’s fair share of Yellow Dog Democrats in all ranks.
Although it may not be as prevalent in the Services, there are those who would vote for a minority even if they were Satan reincarnated, as well as those who think that having a vagina is the only prerequisite for office.
Unfortunately under Obama a lot of these people were retained and promoted.
I’m looking for the Military to do a lot of self-purging to get rid of the Bateman and Herring Types and replace them with warriors.

Bubblehead

There’s a partial breakdown by branch and a few other categories in the original article from the Military Times. I didn’t see an age breakdown, but there is an officer/enlisted one.

“About 60 percent of women and 57 percent of minorities in the military approved of the job performance of Obama, the first African-American president.”

They just couldn’t leave that out.

ex-OS2 prefers Coke to Pepsi.

Graybeard

And, despite what they say about Texans, Graybeard prefers CocaCola to Dr. Pepper.

Although I have put peanuts in my Coke.

Deplorable B Woodman

Ok. Let’s nail down some details here:
American Coke with corn syrup? Or “Mexican” Coke with cane sugar?

The peanuts: boiled or dry roasted? Salted or unsalted?

And for Hell’s sake, why?

ex-OS2

Eh, American Coke. Mexican Coke tastes like Sams root beer to me.

SFC D

Mexican. Real sugar = real Coke. That’s the real thing.

Andy11M

“I have put peanuts in my Coke”. This….this is a thing in Texas? I was stationed at Hood and I never saw or even heard of this. WTF, over.

UpNorth

Not just Texas, I grew up in Michigan and we did the Peanut & Coca-Cola thing all the time.

Claw

I have also put peanuts in my pop, but it wasn’t Coke. I was a RC Cola man myself.

It was something that was all the rage for the kids back in the Sixties, but the practice may go back way further than that.

It’s kind of a southern/western thing, thought to have started with the farmers/ranchers who were just too busy to take a lunch break, so dump a nickle bag of real salty shelled Planters Peanuts in your six cent RC that you got from the filling station or lumber yard and keep on working.

Also, it was way cool to get the sweet/sour taste at the same time. Like, Far Out, Man.

NavyEODguy

You tell’m Claw.

If you ain’t had peanuts in an RC you don’t know crapola.

Coke, Pepsi, RC may look the same but try them and you’ll agree. Peanuts &RC!

A Proud Infidel®™

RC is best while eating a Moon Pie!

Ex-PH2

Old-fashioned Coke, made with real sugar (long before high fructose corn syrup was ever heard of) and you drop M&Ms into it.

Claw

Yes Ma’am, we did that to. M&M’s in our pop. Plain, not peanut. Peanut M&M’s would get stuck in the bottle neck.

But it’s kind of a generational thing that you can’t do anymore since the pop is almost always in cans nowadays.

Peanuts/M&M’s only works when you do it with a bottle. And don’t forget to return the bottle for the .02 cents deposit.

Ex-PH2

So, it’s okay to vote for Trump, after all?

It must hurt when the media mopes post those results.

Graybeard

Well, Duh-oh!

OC

I’m trying to wrap my head around ANYONE in the military voting for Shrillary. Must be what GR_ATC said.
And Graybeard – what the fuck, peanuts in Coke?

2/17 Air Cav

Me too, OC. The percentages of Wideload supporters and oBaMa supporters are too large and signal a serious problem. I did not look at a branch breakdown, but I expect that the problem children are mostly in the Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force.

Airdale (AW) USN ret.

But not the Army??

OWB

RC cola and peanuts, with a moon pie for desert.

Whadayamean, dry roasted? They only came with skins on them, and plenty greasy at that.

FatCircles0311

The blue falcon percent is becoming an issue.

Just An Old Dog

Like I mentioned above I think that under Trump the military will start self- purging the SJWs who are determined to make it a social experiment.

A Proud Infidel®™

I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out that “Warrior Monk” Mattis is already locked and loaded and ready to start pushing like a Caterpillar D9 at full throttle!

HT3 '83-'87

As member of the Reagan Era 600-ship Navy, I think the military always likes it better when there is a Republican as CIC.

I mean c’mon, Barry couldn’t wait to yank out troops from Iraq, do noting during the Syrian Civil War, throw Israel under the bus…oh, and send troops BACK to Iraq. I’m surprised how many thought he did a good job, but then I remembered how many no-load, skating gold brick there are in this world.

2/17 Air Cav

This was a voluntary survey that was conducted over the course of a week and involved 2000+ respondents. Nowhere does the methodology identify that what branch the respondents are members of. They are all lumped together as “active-duty military.” Well, if the survey assumes that a Marine is the same as a sailor and a airman the same as a soldier, or a respondent colonel is the same as a respondent PVT, I would say that the survey needs retooling. For all we know, the survey was over representative of a branch. Does it matter? You betchum.

Bubblehead

I put a link to the original article from the Military Times above, so here it is again. It has a partial breakdown of categories (i.e. branch, officer/enlisted, but not many).

Can I ask an stolen valor question?

How did GEN David G. Perkins got his Silver Star?
I saw his picture in my unit’s command wall, and he is wearing the SS. I googled his ass, and it says he got it as a COL, commanding the 2BDE/3ID during the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

But, and this is why I am asking here, I cannot find nuthin about the narrative how he got it. In HomeOfHeroes it just says:

“The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to David G. Perkins, Colonel (Infantry), U.S. Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while Commanding the 2d Brigade, 3d Infantry Division, during combat actions in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, on 7 April 2003, in Iraq.”

And at the Military Times Hall of Valor it says:
“(Citation and/or Narrative Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Colonel (Infantry) David Gerard Perkins, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while Commanding the 2d Brigade Combat Team, 3d Infantry Division, during combat actions in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, on 7 April 2003, in Iraq. Colonel Perkins led his forces in his M113 Armored Personnel Carrier, at breakneck speed across the Iraq desert from Kuwait, in the “Thunder Run” to liberate Baghdad. His gallant leadership and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

Action Date: April 7, 2003″

This is weird. Every other dude in those pages have a complete narrative except our TRADOC Commanding General.

What gives?

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Leading the Thunder Run into Iraq apparently impressed some folks…..

Yef

Yeah.

Maybe there is a different award criteria for enlisted and officers?
I thought the SS was awarded for gallantry in combat.

gal·lant·ry
ˈɡaləntrē/
noun
1.
courageous behavior, especially in battle.
“a medal awarded for outstanding gallantry during the raid”
synonyms: bravery, courage, courageousness, valor, pluck, pluckiness, nerve, daring, boldness, fearlessness, dauntlessness, intrepidity, heroism, mettle, grit, stoutheartedness; informalguts, spunk, moxie
“he received medals for gallantry”

But hey, what do I know.
I am just an enlisted smelly furriner.

rgr769

Back in my day, people weren’t awarded generic silver stars for just doing their jobs in a meritorious manner in combat ops. From the ribbon racks and badges I have seen on uniforms in the past fifteen years, it looks like there has been some serious medal inflation. It’s like the “everyone gets a trophy” mindset has infiltrated the military.

Airdale (AW) USN ret.

Look at the regs now, it states some medals are for senior officers , get it officers only, enlisted might get a Meritorious Service medal (E-8-E-9).
