Pentagon reconsiders plan to recoup bonuses
According to AFP the Pentagon is reconsidering the way it will recoup Iraq War bonuses from National Guard troops. You’ll remember that initially it was a situation where troops had to prove their innocence after the bonuses were recovered and about 17,000 Guardsmen were targeted to be involved in the process;
About 1,000 soldiers will have to present their case and argue over whether their debt should be forgiven.
“Most of the cases in which we’ll be recouping will actually be cases in which the soldiers did not fulfill their commitment,” Levine said.
“There will be some cases in which we have fraud or evidence of fraud or knowledge or should’ve known.
“But most of the cases in which we’ll be recouping, we will be recouping because the soldier didn’t fulfill their commitment.”

Perhaps Big Brother can recoup some of our tax dollars that go to fraudulent welfare, food stamps, disability, et al claims.
Hush that talk! It’s not 20 January yet….
What was I thinking? My bad.
I am going to be in a bad mood all year, I hate odd numbers.
Not until 1200 on 20 January… any talk of that before then is RAAAYYYCIST!
Or maybe like real money and take back tax breaks for fucking Apple so they can make shit in China…
Apple, Foxconn and Pegatron seem to think that we have:
“brain drain of vocational talent and knowledge in the American workforce”
The Mac Pro is manufactured in the US, not sure why the other devices can’t be?
My question was rhetorical.
I qualified for the 15 grand re-up bonus while deployed, but one tour was enough and even though this bonus was tax free because I was in theater, it still was not enough to entice me to re-up for another six.
Instead, I was placed on stop-loss and did get some compensation in 2010 for those months I was on stop-loss.
Bonuses always sound great and, if taken, are spent quickly. A $10,000 bonus is the equivalent of a $5.00/hr job for a year. Do the math on the bonuses and, unless they are in the 6 figures, screw it.
Come 20JAN17, please come quickly.
As someone who has received a couple hundred thousand on bonuses over the years of active duty and one reserve cycle, I say, they should go after the frauds and those who didn’t fulfill their contracts

When I went Active Duty in 1994 the Indiana National Guard was quick to take back my enlistment bonus because I didn’t complete my commitment.
I was in school at USNAS Memphis with a guy who had filed for a brown baggers card and allowance for his wife who he was going to marry during Christmas. The marriage fell thru and he did not report the fact because he liked living off base. Naval Criminal Investigation took him away and gave him five years at hard labor for ATTEMPTING TO DEFRAUD THE GOVERNMENT OF SIXTY SEVEN DOLLARS even though not a cent had been issued.
I seem to remember a few old farts my age telling me that when DA allowed them to come back in during 2006ish OIF (you know, when they needed anyone with a pulse) first they had to pay back the separation bonuses they got when they were forced out after Desert Storm 15 years before. I did not doubt them one bit.
