NBC News reports that a US service member was killed in an IED detonation in northern Syria today.

The soldier’s name has not been disclosed, but he or she was near Ayn Issa in northern Syria when the explosive detonated, according to a Pentagon statement. The service member was part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S. military operation combating ISIS in northern Iraq and Syria.

Reports from US News and World Reports and the News Sentinel are similar.

Lt. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, commander of Combined Joint Task Force in charge of Operation Inherent Resolve, in a statement. “On this Thanksgiving, please be thankful that there are service members willing to take up the fight to protect our homeland from ISIL’s hateful and brutal ideology.”

I hope Obama chokes on his tofu turkey dinner. Sure, our people will do what they must and some will die doing it. The question is why they are in Syria at all, given the CF that it is. How many generals said, “Mr. President, I’ll be blunt, sir. Although the name Inherent Resolve is certainly catchy, it is nothing more than a hopeful clusterfuck. It is the military version of the Affordable Health Care Act. Both have names that are opposite what they do. Both are stupidly expensive. Both are destined to fail. And both are costing American lives.”

America has not been given permission by the lawfully elected and internationally recognized government of Syria to be in their country.

The left staged massive demonstrations on this very subject with American troops in Cambodia in the 1970s.

No “boots on the ground.”

And now we have American troops dying in combat operations in Syria.

Gen. Townsend whose “homeland” are we protecting in Syria? Which faction of islamic terrorists is obama supporting now?

Which raises another issue for me. I detest referring to our country as the homeland. I guess fatherland and motherland were all ready spoken for.

He can’t officially use the words ‘our country’ until the moron aka bodaprez is gone, officially gone.

I thought according to our beloved dear leaders we would not have boots on the ground in that shit hole.

Wilcox.

Concur. No “boots on the ground” means no casualties. This report is obviously a fake news report.

The POTUS who received a Nobel peace prize 8 years ago when he inherited two wars, is leaving us with three. Thanks pal and good riddance.

Rest in peace.

Apparently, the way to “avoid another Vietnam” is to repeat darn near every dumb move from Vietnam.

Insanity!

God bless any and all who see the current mess, yet remain hopeful enough in the premise of America, and sign up anyway.

And please comfort those fallen, and their surviving family. It was not in vain. Their hope and loyalty serve the Nation, and its return to sanity.

For their courage, I am thankful, truly.

The serviceman has now been identified: Senior Chief Petty Officer Scott Dayton. He was 42 years old, EOD, and a 23-year career sailor.

“Senior Chief Petty Officer Scott Dayton was a true patriot and highly regarded member of the EOD community,” said Capt. John Moulton, Commander, EODGRU Two. “His legacy will continue in the lives of those who knew him, especially those he trained.”

Moulton requested privacy be granted to Dayton’s family members at this time as they grieve his loss.

“I ask that everyone keep Senior Chief Dayton and his family in our thoughts and prayers and honor their request for privacy during this most challenging of times,” said Moulton.
