Washington Mall shooter arrested

| September 25, 2016

Arcan Cetin1

Yesterday, Arcan Cetin, a twenty-year-old Turkish-born man, gunned down five people in a Macy’s store in Burlington, Washington’s Cascade Mall. Four of the victims were women, the fifth was a husband who stooped to help his wife when she fell during the rampage. According to the Seattle Times, Cetin was not unknown to local law enforcement;

Skagit County court records show Cetin has a criminal record that included three domestic-violence assault charges in both Burlington and Island County, with the victim identified as Cetin’s stepfather. He also was arrested for drunken driving.

Island County District Court records show that Cetin was told by a judge on Dec. 29 that he was not to possess a firearm.

From our friends at Weaselzippers;

Usually, you hear from the neighbors or friends “oh he was quiet”, “he was nice”, or “we never would have known”.

Not so here. Multiple women on Facebook accused him of grabbing women and one even calling him a pervert against women who should ‘rot in hell’.

Now we cannot know if those allegations are true, it’s clear that they hold no fond memories of this guy.

From My Northwwest;

According to KIRO 7 reporter Amy Clancy, Cetin was known in his Oak Harbor neighborhood.

“Everybody we’ve talked with in this neighborhood is relieved. They were scared of this guy,” Clancy told KIRO 7.

[…]

In 2015, Cetin was involved in a 4th degree assault in Oak Harbor. As a result, the court ordered him to go under a mental health evaluation which was completed in March 2016, according to KIRO 7. He was ordered not to use drugs or alcohol during this time. On Aug. 25, 2016, he was found in compliance with all court orders, including weekly mental health counseling.

I’m most curious about how he was able to find a firearm to use in his shooting spree, however, that doesn’t seem to be a topic of conversation this morning. i wonder why. Not only were Washington’s draconian gun laws in place, there seems to have been a court order that forbade him to possess a gun, yet he walked into a busy mall carrying a long gun and no one stopped him. According to Wiki;

Open carry is lawful in Washington without any permit. Open carry of a loaded handgun in a vehicle is legal only with a concealed pistol license. Open carry of a loaded long gun in a vehicle is illegal, regardless of CPL possession. State Law does not allow more restrictive local laws.

[…]

Open carrying of firearms is not prohibited by law, although trouble with some law enforcement agencies has been encountered while open carrying in the past…

What was the predominant religion in Turkey again?

They’re Mormons, right?

Another act of Mormon extremist violence…

CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND YOUR PRINCESS BRIDE ! ! !

Those who aren’t Mormons may not understand what the term, “sealed”, means.

It’s a very sacred marriage ceremony conducted within a Holy Temple in The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints.

By the way, IF anyone is interested, next weekend is the “Mormon” church’s General Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, which can be viewed worldwide at this URL:

Well, I’m not sure that we’ve lost our balls, but at least we have the constitution, I can’t really get behind lynchings and extralegal vigilante killings without a trial.

Concur, I’m pretty conservative and my neck can get pretty red, but when you start talking vigilante justice, I’m out. I’m just fine with a public hanging after a fair trial, however.

“Island County District Court records show that Cetin was told by a judge on Dec. 29 that he was not to possess a firearm.”

This guy is probably the exception. As a rule, you can bet that when a DV’er or future terrorist bastard is told by a judge not to possess a firearm, well, it’s just not done. My ass.

Ex-PH2

I’m quite sure he found that gun in a trash can or a burlap bag on the side of the road somewhere. Homeless GUNZZ are so common, you see. He had to take it for walkies, so he went to a mall. (sarc)

We have a HUGE homeless gun issue in Western Washington. I have opened a shelter for them…but they just seem too independent to come in out of the elements, and into my safe.

My question is, was the rifle stashed in Macy’s prior to him entering the Mall. If so, did he stash it or did someone else do it for him?

“Surveillance video captured the suspect entering the mall unarmed and then recorded him about 10 minutes later entering the Macy’s with a “hunting type” rifle in his hand”

Not a Mini-14, I have one; like Usafvet I’m thinking AK clone. This is most likely not the rifle he used in the mall, but at least his boogerhook in on the bang switch showcasing his mad rifle skilz.

I looked up his home town and as the crow flies, not that far from the Syrian border. The news reports say his “step-father” so I’m wondering if some GI didn’t marry his mother. Regardless, how he got her, the cunt lived in a great location that my wife and I could not afford to even consider. But the answer to all of this is import more Muslims and enact more gun laws. Either that or stop eating Skittles.

Roger in

Exactly. His stepfather is a retired Navy man. Oak Harbour is a mecca for Navy retirees. They have Hidby Island Naval Air Station there and a lot of guys stay in the area upon retirement.
It has been reported that his assault charge was the result of a domestic violence beef with one or more of his parents. At one time there were protective orders against him for both his mom and dad and an uncle. His folks petitioned the court to lift them so he could move back into their home. The petition was granted and that’s where the cops picked him up.

A Proud Infidel®™

Hmmm, some media outlets were saying yesterday that “A Hispanic male with a hunting-type rifle’ was suspect in the shootings and today we hear that it was a Turkish boy, wotta surprise, eh? I mean, a male shooting up a portion of a Women’s department of a store, but look at how Middle Eastern goat-rapers treat Women… And how DID he get that gun even after a Judge TOLD HIM not to possess a firearm or ammo. I wonder how Hillarrhoids and the left are going to try to blame Trump, the GOP and the NRA for this?

Chindonya

I live in Lynden, WA which is about a 45 minute drive from Burlington, WA, where the mall shooting occurred.

What is the top news story of the day in the largest newspaper of the area (The Bellingham Herald)? Not the mall shooting, but a news story about that Whatcom County government complaining Donald Trump’s campaign needs to pay for the cost of his security during his rally in Lynden, WA on May 7, 2016.

http://www.bellinghamherald.com

Further down on the front page the mall shooting is mentioned, but the headline skips the part that the shooter was an immigrant from Turkey. The headline reads “The Latest: Report: Suspect faces domestic-violence charges.”

CAs6

You live in one of the most beautiful towns in the world, I lived in Everson for four short months and I loved every minute I spent in Lynden. I preferred being in Lynden to being in Everson.

What was your first clue there, Sherlock?

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/09/25/islamic-terror-homeland-security-chair-good-chance-mall-shooting/

“Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), chair of the House Committee on Homeland Security, told Fox News’ Mario Bartiromo on Sunday morning that “there’s a good chance” Friday’s mass shooting at mall in Washington “could be” Islamic terrorism.”

Ex-PH2

Well, obviously, Ed, he doesn’t want to offend anyone. But I’m offended that he’s so hesitant.

UpNorth

I don’t know the timeline on McCaul’s appearance on Fox and the arrest of this muslim, but the media and the local Chief of Police or sheriff said, repeatedly, that the shooter was “Hispanic”.

chindonya

This reminded me of the 2007 mass shooting at the Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake City, UT. The killer was an immigrant from Bosnia who shouted Allahu Akbar multiple times during the attack (recorded in Youtube video). The FBI was unable to determine a motive, but declared terrorism wasn’t a factor. Really?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?

OWB

Perfect example of media bias, and it’s actually pretty funny to watch:

Initial report is of a “Hispanic” male. Naturally, his weapon must be something as innocuous as possible therefore it’s just a “hunting rifle.” Ya know – agenda dictates and all.

Facts start to immerge. The agenda dictates that they cannot be accepted if contrary to that agenda. And they are not supportive of the previously published, agenda pushing “facts.”

Oh, my. What to do. Much wringing of hands follows. Poor little lefties.

Teehee. Pardon my enjoyment at the expense of the loony left.

Meanwhile, the sane among us feel no more or less anger at this low life criminal no matter his motivation. Sure, any terrorist ties he might have are significant, but my disgust with him is because of the heinous acts he committed without regard for his country of origin, family ties, education, or any other factor.

All that said, I reserve the right to enlarge the list of folks who share the disgust, depending. Like all the officials who are being paid to keep vermin like this out of our country. That is one of the very few legitimate functions of government, yet they continue to fail at it, instead seeming to take pride in their failures while demanding increasing rewards for it.

Roger in Republic

It’s all optics. As long as Obozo/Clintoon is in office the terror angle will be severely downplayed. If Trump is elected we might start getting the truth, but not for the reason you might think. Acts of terror will skyrocket as the truth is told, but they will be blamed on Trump. I can see the headlines now. “Terrorism surges under Trump administration”, “Muslim terrorist blames Trump for mass shooting at Gay Bathhouse”, Fears of retaliation after Trump executes ISIS gunmen in Times Square shootout”. You get the picture.

Ex-PH2

If you exchange ‘optics’ for ‘tunnel vision’, I can accept that. It’s more accurate, too.

MSG Eric

We’ll just continue to get more “facts” from the MSM about Trump, like “Trump recorded eating KFC with a knife and fork!” instead of “Hillary has 4th seizure in 6 months as POTUS.”

Just like how they are praising Obama for lower gas prices, slammed Bush for higher gas prices, though when they dropped down while he was POTUS didn’t praise him because “Oh, the president has nothing to do with lower gas prices.”

If everything goes wrong, or people in certain states are voting 10-15 times each, you’ll see more news about what the Kardashians are doing vs the illegal shit Hillary will continue to do.

Dave Hardin

If you find yourself with some extra time or you are on the shitter with nothing to read at the moment, here ya go. I am Anti-Islam and proud of it. Just thought I would share. I’m always amused when people accuse me of being anti-Islam, as if it’s a bad thing, and as if I’ve been trying to hide it and they’ve somehow caught me like, “Aha, I see what you are now. You’re just anti-Islam.” Yes, well spotted, Sherlock. Indeed I am, just like every other sane person on earth should be. Why am I anti-Islam? For the simple reason that Islam is anti me, and it’s anti every fundamental value I hold. If I were to accommodate its values in my life I would have to violate everything that I believe in. I think that’s an unreasonable demand, and, as such, it is of course typically Islamic. In general, I don’t like to be anti anything. I prefer to be pro. But there’s nothing in Islam to be pro about. The entire religion is built on a foundation of prejudice, injustice, and inhumanity, and I’m anti all of those. People say: “You only focus on the bad things about Islam.” And yes, I have to admit that if you ignore the bad things -the aggressive separatism, super masochistic and social intolerance, the relentless special pleading and phony grievance mongering, the psychopathic level of misogyny, the “honor” killing and genital mutilation (sanctioned by the prophet, incidentally),the rabid gay and Jew hatred, the intimidation and censorship, and the constantly present threat of violence over social issues – then there isn’t much wrong with Islam. The trouble is when you take these things away there’s nothing left. There is no Islam any more because it is defined by these things, and we can see the evidence of this with our own eyes.We can see that wherever this religion goes in the world it brings with it guaranteed intolerance, conflict and social division, and if it gets the upper hand, persecution, and ultimately monstrous cruelty, and people always become less free, especially the female ones.… Read more »

Ex-PH2

So what you’re saying is that you’re anti-Islam, right?

Just want to be sure I understand.

Perry Gaskill

Some of your longer comments on Islam lately have been interesting, Dave. My own view is that the goal of radical Islam is to establish a global caliphate. It’s not about religion exactly; that’s just the fuel that feeds the engine. It’s actually about geopolitical power.

What’s also curious is that radical Islam seems to be pushing for a kind of Armageddon confrontation. A battle to end all battles. What seems apparent is that they have no sense that the West’s reluctance to engage in full-scale conflict with them, they see it as weakness, has more to do with not wanting to let the dogs off the leash, and all it involves getting them back. In Nietzsche’s words, “He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.”

It’s also said that after the attack on Pearl Harbor that Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto was quoted as saying, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

And once the trigger has been pulled on a certain level of resolve, a willingness to gaze into the abyss, the nature of the conflict changes. So far, we haven’t gotten there yet.

Years ago in Vietnam, there were two phrases you would hear with some regularity. Typically as dark humor with an underlying edge:

“Yea though I walk through the Valley of Death, I will fear no evil for I am the meanest son of a bitch in the Valley.”

And…

“Kill them all and let God sort it out.”

A Proud Infidel®™

I prefer “Kill them all and let Satan eat their souls”.

reddevil

Two points:

-The goal of ISIS and other Salafist (fundamental) Islamist groups is a global caliphate. They do in fact believe not only will there be an Armageddon type battle, but that it will occur in the Levant and they can make it a reality through their actions on earth. They reject any secular government and want a Sharia guided caliphate, and they believe that Abu Bakr is the Rightly Guided Caliph that will lead them to all of the above.

-I think the concept of ‘Radical Islam’ is giving these pricks way to much credit. Essentially, we are buying into the notion that they had a religious conversion and carefully considered all of the theological nuances and decided that the only political and spiritual solution was to go shoot up the mall.

In reality, we are seeing the Islamification of radicalism- your typical Angry Young Man who uses religion as a convenient excuse to do horrible things. They are a bunch of loser Peter Pans who can’t make things happen in the real world, so they either move to Never Never Land (ISIS controlled territory, where they can pretend to be soldiers, shoot guns, have sex slaves, and post YouTube videos), or throw a temper tantrum with guns.

Tony180a

Good post Red.

rgr769

The concept of “radical” islam is a semantic game, attempting to sell us on the idea that the principal tenets of islam are not violent or xenophobic, and that most of islam is not fanatical. But in reality the fundamentals of the Koran and the Hadiths are a pre-medieval political philosophy of conquest, subjugation, slavery and mass murder. This dirtbag is a likely supporter or adherent to that ideology. I note the most recent photo shows him sporting the typical unkempt, scraggly beard with the neatly trimmed mustache of the islamofascist. We should also keep in mind that “immigrants” from this part of the world are frequently severely inbred due to their preference for inter clan and 1st cousin marriages, resulting in low IQs, mental illness, and other defects.

Yef

Excellent!

Thank you!

I have openly stated my belief that all cultures are NOT equal or good.

Where I live, that is some heretical speech. “But, but ‘coexist’…and diversity is our strength.” Bullshit.

A Proud Infidel®™

You CANNOT coexist with people who want to kill you and eradicate your way of life.

jonp

I don’t think his being either Turkish or Muslim had much to do with this. He went into the mall, straight to the Macy’s and shot up some pretty specific people.

Methinks a crime of passion

Yef

Oh really.

I am wayyy past giving the religion of peace the benefit of the doubt.

If a muslim kills people, it is jihad no matter if he screams ali baba, sandwiche bar, or alabama. I don’t care anymore.

“War on islam, War till the end.”

reddevil

It takes a special kind of person to go into a mall and shoot people, whether he knew them or not. In the civilized world we call that type of person a psychopath.

Technically I think this particular guy is a sociopath, but it doesn’t really matter. The common thread is that these people have no regard for human life or society in general.

I think that Salafist Islam gives them the excuse they need to do what they’ve always wanted to do.

Some of the really bad guys we caught in Iraq (the bombers, the torturers, etc), used Islam as a fig leaf for what they did, but the reality is that they absolutely loved killing people.

SFC D

“The common thread is that these people have no regard for human life or society in general”.

These Salafist Islam murderous bastards do have regard for human life. As long as that life thinks and believes as they do. Anyone else is considered sub-human and must be eliminated. Just vermin standing in the path of the caliphate.

Reddevil

Not really. The most grisly killings I saw in Iraq were among people of the same sect that believed the other had betrayed them. Torture with drills, butchered like animals, and of course bombs designed to maim rather than kill.

Sure, there are some religious fanatics, but most of these guys would figure out a resin to kill even if they were atheists

CCO

Honestly, crime of passion (or revenge) or some other motivation for targeting the specific people who were killed (and I had only heard of four until I read of the husband here today). My thinking, such as it was, was what kind of terrorist stops at four people?

CCO

Maybe I was assuming (yeah, well, anyway) that the “Hispanic” part of the description was correct.

Dang! You caught me. I’ve been lurking on tah for a couple of years under “jonp” and my name is actually “achmed the goat raper”. It’s been a long term plan of my ISIS masters to poison the internet. You were just to smart and finally caught on.
Foiled again!
This dipshit’s ex worked in a Macy’s. He walked into a mall, past all of the shoppers straight to the Macy’s, passed all the people there and went right to the perfume counter where he murdered people then walked on out past all of those people again. Not an “Alluah Akbar” to be said.
Doesn’t sound like the typical terrorist to me who can’t wait to tell everyone of the glories of that death cult usually by shouting while shooting.

When the media says “hispanic suspect” after a mass shooting think “Middle Eastern”. When the media says “no links to terrorism” think “terrorist”. You already know they are telling you the opposite of the truth when it comes to islamic terrorism.

Commissar Poodle

Washington laws are draconian?

There are essentially no restrictions on tactical firearms with the exception of full automatic weapons. No permits required for gun purchases.

I bought a tactical weapon there and was in and out in less than 45 minutes and half that time was pondering which rails and stock to get.

I suppose it is more restrictive than most states on average but hardly “draconian.”

I actually thought Washington had struck a reasonable balance between public safety and constitutional protections.

There is really no way to stop all nutcases like this guy. At least there is no way to do so without significantly changing our expectations of civil liberties and the limits of government power and authority to restrict people’s actions.

A Proud Infidel®™

“There is really no way to stop all nutcases like this guy…”
I have to agree with you on that, as for buying a gun in WA, I never have, so I can’t vouch for that.
