MOPH phone hoax

| August 3, 2016

The Military Order of the Purple Heart, a federally-chartered organization warns that some less-than scrupulous folks are making phone calls claiming to be from that organization and soliciting donations for presidential campaigns, according to Business Wire.

The public should be informed that these calls are a HOAX. The MOPH remains an apolitical organization and, as such, “shall not contribute to or otherwise support or assist any political party or candidate for public office.” If you should receive such a call, you are encouraged to report it as a SCAM to the local authorities.

It’s a jungle out there.

My default is to assume any phone call asking for money is a scam.

It has got me in trouble with my credit card company, though.

I’ve been getting SO many scam calls lately, I just answer them, and put the phone up to the radio speaker. After a minute or two, I look, and sure enough, they’ve hung up. That gives me a lull in the scam/spam calls for a week or two.

Green Thumb

I just give them All-Points Logistics number.

If I get a call from someone with a thick Indian accent named Robert from the Windows Service Center, or some such, I respond with “Bullshit! Don’t call me again!” I sometimes get a disapproving look from my wife, but as I tell her, I have no obligation to be polite to someone who’s trying to steal from me. And maybe, just maybe, it might discourage repeat calls if I let them know I’m on to them. No real way to tell if it’s working, of course, but I haven’t gotten too many of them lately.

You got that one too!?

They tried to hit a couple days ago. Woke up to a missed call, no number listed. They tried again a couple hours later, I didn’t pick up.

The third time I picked up because I am still job-hunting. You never know. This guy had an accent I could not place, and was very hard for me to understand.

When I finally gathered he was calling from the “Windows something or other center” about issues they had detected on my computer, I told him “I’m on to your scam” and hung up.

They haven’t called back since. 🙂

I get pissed at these scumbags too, but when we tell them to ph-ck off…they have a button they push and causes your number to be called again and again…..so now, anything that says unknown caller, I don’t answer and then send the info to Fed. no call list….they don’t do jack shyt about it, but it pacifys me LOL

I’ve had numerous of those calls in the past. Since I run GNU/Linux on everything here, I ask ’em how it is they can see my connection and able to tell I have Winderz. I get bored, so I enjoy messing with ’em.

Just An Old Dog

Now I simply never answer my house phone. Anyone that really needs to get a hold of me knows my cell number.
Years back I would answer and talk with a creaky old vioce and talk nonsense,,, When they would make a statement or ask a question I would say.

” My dog is right here by my chair, he hasnt been out all day”

” Frog legs?,,, I hear they go good with Tomato Soup”

” No, my nieghbor is a good man, I think he may drink a little but he keeps his grass cut and his birddeeder full”

or if they don’t get frustrated I just yell out

“NO! I aint never been to Germany!!”

If any of the many phone scammers are reading this, then they will recognize me by what I say to them. Usually they start off with, “Hi, I’m Bob (Jim, Frank, Henry, etc.) from “so and so”. The next words spoken are mine……”Go F__K yourself!”. Then I hang up and seldom ever hear another peep for days or weeks. Just goes to show……sometimes it pays to be the LAST person they want to hear from on any given day. Even if the caller is a female con artist or their first call of the day. Sales departments that do phone calls/scams are loaded with people that NEED to be offended.
