Democrats convinced their gun control message can win

The Hill reports that the Democrats are going into the election thinking that, for once, their gun control message can help them win the election. So convinced that Democrat-turned-Republican-turned-Independent Nanny Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City who sought to regulate the size of the sodas New Yorkers drank and whether or not they could give their babies formula instead of breast-feeding, is speaking at the Convention tonight with his wallet wide-open to candidates willing to relieve Americans of their Second Amendment rights.
The heightened focus on gun reform marks a shift –– some might say a gamble –– for Clinton and the Democrats. The party rejoiced after enacting an assault weapons ban under President Clinton in 1994, but when the Republicans trounced them at the polls later in the year, many attributed the defeat to the gun debate.
In similar fashion, Al Gore was stung for embracing gun reform as he sought the White House in 2000, losing several states –– including West Virginia and his home state of Tennessee –– where voters were exceedingly wary of his gun positions.
That track record has left some conservatives practically drooling at the thought that Clinton would make gun reform a major issue of this year’s campaign.
For some reason, Democrats think that the sit-in they staged on the floor of the House earlier this year was some big milestone moment. I guess they didn’t notice that most of Americans were laughing at them;
Asked if the Democrats will stage something as dramatic as another sit-in when Congress returns to Washington in September, Lewis left the door wide open. “It’s possible,” he said.
Rep. John Larson (D-Conn.), who also helped organize the sit-in, said the tactic was devised with November in mind.
“We had the sit-in so that we would be able to define this issue and the difference between the two parties,” Larson said.
I honestly don’t think that gun control is the issue that Democrats think it is. They’ve poisoned the debate using complete morons to get their message out and Americans noticed that. Bloomberg’s money hasn’t changed any elections. the sit-in was a joke to most of America (except maybe in the Democratic Underground echo-chamber forums). It may end up being the issue that energizes Americans to vote for Trump.

The Gun Control issue will fail for the DildoCrats worse this time than it did for Slick Willy.
And in other news, Hinckley is being released from prison after serving 35 years for trying to assassinate Ronald Reagan to impress Jodie Foster (who?).

If I recall rightly, this is where the whole phony gun control debate got its start.
I think is goes back to 1936 and Attorney General Homer Cummings, who tried to push for registration of all pistols and long guns. Quote “Show me a man who doesn’t want his gun registered and I’ll show you a man who shouldn’t have a gun.”
Oh, that old Nazi/commie Homer!?! If he’d had his way, many of us would not be alive today.
No, it really goes back to post-Civil War in the South, to keep black people from getting their hands on any kind of weapon. It was aggravated in the 1930s by Ma Barker’s gang, Bonnie & clyde, Dillinger, Capone, etc., and went right on into modern-day gangs.
If restrictive gun laws were repealed in all states and all citizens who want to vote required to carry arms for self-defense (with proper training, of course), I think crime would drop drastically.
What’s the crime rate in Switzerland, again? Don’t they have a requirement that everyone must own a gun and train in it use? Or something like that?
I notice that the Swiss are going on a buying spree with the latest attacks in France & Germany.
Also, I believe the conscription only applies to males, and the beta boys can opt out through community service (serving in food kitchens, gardening in the parks, etc.)
How pissed off is he gonna be knowing he was trying to impress a lesbian.
Well, now that the muslim vermin killed 80 some odd people with a large truck, I guess those fruitcakes are going to have to have another sit in with their pacifiers for “truck control”! wadda bunch of maroons!!!
Bring it on, Bitches !!!
Bloomberg…
…
Fascist control-freak motherfucker…
…
God, I hate that guy.
Oh, cool off! He’s just as mortal as anyone else. Not worth the rise in BP.
Are there three groups in play here?
1. Democrats who where going to vote for Hillary anyway, supporters for this position think that this effort will bring out more voters but it makes makes no difference because it doesn’t get them any new votes.
2. Democrats who might be swayed but they live in bad neighborhoods and they may have noticed that after 7.5 years of Obama, there is now more crime, not less. These people are poor, not stupid and they vote. The proposed changes to gun laws won’t help them. The Democrats may lose some of these people. In New York and Chicago and Detroit there are a lot of people in this group.
3. Republicans who do not not like Mr. Trump and planned to stay home may come out to vote against the democrats and this proposal.
I don’t see how they will gain but all of this is a complete mystery to me.
Gun Control is A Tenant of The Faith and cannot be denied.
Talk about Blind Faith – these clowns have set the standard high.
Hey! Don’t smear the good name of Blind Faith! Great rock group, great album. I (used to?) have their original vinyl album, with the young lady (ahem) holding the rocket.
Note to self: look for album, verify if wifey threw it out lo, many years ago.
I have 2 originals of both covers, occasionally play them also…”Had to cry today” fav song on that LP
Wow. I had to google that. It was a 1969 album and that girl was ugly and hippy looking with hanging tits.
And she is holding the tail of a model aircraft, it seems.
Is that how you remember it? Was she close to the standard of beauty for her time?
I ask because i know the standards change over time.
Their free shit for everyone plan will win because lazy assclowns love free shit without any responsibility to earn that stuff….
The only reason I favor this is because it is a wedge issue which can drive more voters to vote against Hillary.
The problem with the issue is that with the complicity of the mass media, there is so much anti-gun rhetoric floating around (and sure to be more) that low information voters are as likely as not to run with it. Not enough low-information uncritically ignorant voters out there to worry about? I submit two numbers in rebuttal (and rebuke): 2008 and 2012.
“We had the sit-in so that we would be able to define this issue and the difference between the two parties,” Larson said.
Yeah, one is the party of responsible adults while the other is the party of petulant adolescents…
You used much nicer words than I would have…
Dumbasses…
“adolescents”? I would have classed them as “infants”. They’ve grown up/older, but they haven’t matured enough to be called adolescents.
I’m torn. Torn, I tell you. I don’t know whether to laugh and point at them, or just wait until the inevitable snorting and stomping and pawing the ground is done with, and the dust has cleared.
This hoplophobia is unclear to me. I recognize the need that democraps have to pound the drum for it, to enlarge it, but at some point, the silliness wears off and people see the real truth about gunnzzz: NOT ONE PERSON IN THIS COUNTRY IS FORCED TO OWN A BALLISTIC WEAPON OF ANY KIND.
So what is the real problem, again?
Someone please enlighten me. Thanks!!!
The problem is that, while no one is forced to own a weapon, a lot of folks are being ‘forced’ to die by them. The answer to the problem is not easy or clear, but unfortunately, the libs think it is — by banning guns.
Thank you!
I recommend a new book, “The War On Cops: How the New Attack on Law and Order Makes Everyone Less Safe” by Heather MacDonald.
There is an extensive discussion about guns, gun rights, gun control, and the politics around the topic. The book suggests a possibility that I think should be explored. The Ferguson Effect is real – there is less proactive policing. As a consequence, there is more crime including more violent crime. Most of the victims of this crime live in poor neighborhoods. Some of the victims – I don’t have a ratio or a number – are law abiding people and they know why their victim-probability is increasing. Some of those people, being upstanding and law abiding, will vote. Maybe they will vote against the party who brought them the extra attacks. For sure, the bad guys do not vote much so the democratic support in poor areas may decline.
Or maybe not. Maybe they will be upset that the cops don’t want to be on the front page of the paper and they will vote against the cops. Read the article by David Clarke on Fox:
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/07/26/sheriff-david-clarke-my-message-for-america-s-black-community-it-s-time-to-leave-democratic-party.html
Congress will not be the problem, I am terrified though of what a Clinton appointed SCOTUS will do to us. I may be old enough to not have to worry but you younger folk and my kids will feel the affect.
Part of the problem with trying to figure out the Democrats is that there are more hidden agendas than the House of Borgia. Just ask Bernie Sanders.
What might be going on with Bloomberg are a couple of things that actually have little to do with gun violence the way most people think of it. As a booster for Wall Street and a supporter of globalisation, the very last thing he and his 1% pals want, after they’ve stolen everything but the paint off the walls, is an armed population.
Then too, it might also be a matter of maneuvering for influence in a potential Clinton administration. Something that could result in either a cabinet-level appointment, or an inside track to the White House for Bloomberg News.
If only we could get them all in one place, build a wall around them, and just drop in supplies once a month. Then after a while, we could just forget to make that once a month drop and cut it down to every second month, then every third month and finally, once a year. After a while, the surviving cannibals could be offered their freedom in exchange for something like — oh, just maybe staying out of the limelight.
It ain’t gun control, it’s people control. Gun control is only the beginning… their attempt to make citizens PRE-CLEAR private sales of legitimately owned private property. How ’bout you aren’t allowed to sell your car or bike because you somehow offended the local commissar? This sets a precedent for the State to control all property rights, because they effectively control all the property.
Paranoid much, David?
“If only we could get them all in one place, build a wall around them” and fill the phuking thing with water.
FIFY
No, that would cause enormous pollution. The only way to avoid it would be to bring in crocodiles to clean up the debris.
That would be animal cruelty to the crocs
And they aren’t shy about it:
http://www.breitbart.com/big-hollywood/2016/07/27/kesha-democrat-rally-decide-gets-fking-weapons/
I have no idea who this Kesha person is, and I’m not real interested in her stupid opinions.
She looks like man playing a woman.
‘…the universe is screaming to us that there needs to be a change…’
I agree with that completely. She should get herself spayed or neutered as soon as possible, because #kidslivesmatter! and hers doesn’t.
Teh Stoopid! It BURNS!!!!
If Americans really supported gun control, firearms sales would not set new records every time the Democrats tried to grab our guns. Democrats would have been able to pass their new gun control legislation when they controlled Congress.
As I’ve said to my liberal friends here and elsewhere, “Is this the hill you want to die on?”
They don’t get the irony. Dumbasses.
So let me guess lets get rid of the cops, Let take away people’s right to defend themselves,
That makes total sense….. NOT !!!!!!
This is a very toxic issue for them to peruse, Even my lefty friends are dead set against this
I have a feeling this does not end well
I agree with Jonn’s assessment here:
And Bloomy may show up with his figurative background checked, store bought, full auto, military assault weapon with multiple bananna clips, bullets that can take down an aircraft, optics designed for snipers and he will unload at a rate of 800 bullets in a single trigger pull with his rhetoric.
And he will have wasted ZERO dollars. This is free air time given by DNC to talk about how guns kill and Clinton will stop the guns that kill. All bads guns to be rounded up …
This appearance is not costing him a dime. The last anti-gun effort he launched was a 27 million dollar failure and ended up being a huge bump for gun and ammo manufactures and responsible gun owners.
Betcha a bag of Brooklyn bagels, if he goes hard on gun control tonight, there will be another record weekend rush on guns and ammo!
But what do I know …
Out of curiosity, do any of the anti-gun politicians own stock in gun and/or ammo companies? They certainly act like they do, doing things to boost sales every time they turn around!
Probably not, but it’s amazing that they almost always have armed bodyguards, and many of them have concealed carry permits.
The Supreme Court is the end all, be all for the Second Amendment and is the final arbiter of the coming election.
It has never mattered more in my lifetime to insist that every one of my conservative libertarian friends, relatives and co-workers votes for Trump and not some other pothead or hippy type floozy.
The future of America truly depends on this election, period.
If you want the end of America, vote for the bitch of Benghazi, your wish will come true…
If that happens, all bets on the method of anarchy and the outcome are off…
Oh please br’er Donkey! Don’ throw me in dat der briar patch! Oh please don’. Oh not DAT der briar patch!
I mistakenly put this cmt in another thread.
Gun control is what, exactly? It’s not the control of guns. It’s just a rather innocuous sounding term for the restrictions, prohibitions, and limitations on the purchase and possession of firearms imposed by government. Some of those restrictions, prohibitions, and limitations are onerous and some are not. Should a 10-year old be permitted to purchase a handgun? Should a lunatic? Reasonable people would say no. So, not all restrictions, prohibitions, and limitations are anti-gun efforts, but many are. It may be the high cost and low approval rate of concealed carry permits in many locales. It may be yet another law to pile atop the mountain of laws regarding firearms and ammunition. Whatever it may be, it isn’t “gun control.”
