Club Blu shooting in Fort Myers, FL

| July 25, 2016

We awoke this morning to the news of another shooting, this time in Fort Myers, Florida at a teen party in an after-hours facility by the name of Club Blu. This was their Facebook banner at the time of the shooting – they’ve since changed it;

Club Blu1

According to the club, the shooting happened at about 12:30 AM. They claim that they had armed security inside the club, but that the shooting happened in the parking lot while parents were picking up their kids. According to WINK News;

Victims as young as 12 and as old as 27 were taken to Lee Memorial Hospital:

16 people were treated in the trauma center and emergency department.
One person died at the hospital.
Two are in the intensive care unit – One in serious condition and the other in critical condition.
One person is in fair condition.
One person was taken to Cape Coral Hospital.
The other victims were treated and released.

WINK also says that police have three people in custody for the shooting.

The News-Press says that two are dead and 18 are injured – most of those injured have been released, according to the media, but two are in critical condition.

FWIW: Fox is now reporting that Fort Myers police are calling the shooting “gang related”. Fort Myers reputedly does have a gang problem, so that’s entirely plausible.

sj

DRG?

Hondo

No, Fort Myers’ gang issues predate the DRG’s involvement in that city.

sj

I don’t know. You sure Bernsaty and ShORTbuSsRidER41 weren’t “throwing up” the DRG sign in court? They may even have tats and colors.

SIU2

someone called into a news radio station claiming to be a witness to the shooting. My first clue that something might be wrong was this “witness” sounded like a cross between Daffy Duck and Larry from the Three Stooges. When they said their name was “Dan Bernath” and “I live down the street”, well…I wished I had recorded it. It lasted a good 2 minutes. They were worried about their friend “Dallas” because he had been drinking, had the bullet for the gun, and he had the key to the lock for the bicycles among other things.

OldSoldier54

Me, either.

Devtun

Debbie Wasserman Shultz also. About to get the boot as DNC chair, and won’t get to speak at the convention. Seems like a real loss for the DNC. What went wrong?

Ex-PH2

Is that Wasserman?

You could just turn the sound down and say things that go with the way she flaps her lips.

Yef

So, did the religion of peace strike again or did black lives don’t matter tried to get more cops?

Sapper3307

Just down the road from Bernasty central. Good job a Disbarred ambulance chaser.

Flagwaver

Better be careful, he might try to blame the shooting on TAH.

I don’t see any indication of terrorism here, just a toilet bowl full of turds, and somebody flushed.

11B-Mailclerk

Nah. They didn’t wait for the cops. They heard a little girl fart, and bolted back to mama’s basement to change their shorts.

“According to the club, the shooting happened at about 12:30 AM. They claim that they had armed security inside the club, but that the shooting happened in the parking lot while parents were picking up their kids.”

Wait. What parents allow their kids under the age of 18 go to clubs until 12:30am?

Hondo

The club was reportedly sponsoring some sort of youth activity (swimsuit party, if I recall correctly earlier accounts). If those reports are accurate, I can’t fault them for trying to give kids something decent to do.

As for the late hour – well, it is summer vacation and it was Sunday night. Not sure staying out late during summer vacation at a sponsored teen event is such a bad thing.

clamsgotlegs

Look at their FB pic above. Girls with no panties get in free. Granted, we don’t know if this “undressed code” was applied to this event.

Great place for 12 year olds to be for a “swimsuit” party. Did anyone wear a coconut bikini top? Just sayin’

Hondo

I saw the pic. I seriously doubt that was applicable to the event in question.

Even if it’s not their usual crowd/MO, it doesn’t mean they weren’t trying to do something for youth. Many urban areas don’t have much for poor youth to do other than “hang out on the block”.

That said, I agree. Don’t think I’d have let any of my kids go to even a supervised event at a club like that. But they weren’t my kids, and their parents may not have had many other choices.

Or they may not have cared. Dunno.

Graybeard

I certainly would not want any of my kids, grandkids, or godchildren to go to a club that encouraged young women to come pantyless and drink. That’s an STD/pregnancy waiting to happen.

Even if on “teen night” they tone it down, you know the kids will see the advertisement later, and have that to look forward to.

I imagine that there were coconut bikini tops in evidence – and teen bikinis galore.

F@ckyocouch

You’re right. I’m way too old and my kids will be incredibly “underprivileged” when it comes to staying up that late at a dance club when they are under the age of 18.

“I can’t fault them for trying to give kids something decent to do”

I don’t fault the club. The parents, yes, as allowing a dance club to do your parenting is a sh!++y as the social media saturated, video game-soaked labor-less upbringing that currently seems standard.

Here is an idea (and none of this is aimed at you, Hondo) for an after hours, post-10pm kids activity. FUCKING SLEEP so you little muthah-fuckahs aren’t sleeping in till past noon, can clean the house, mow the yard, work a job (if legally old enough) and take a test run in the shoes of a productive adult.

Hondo

(chuckling) Sounds like a good idea to me. But most parents these days don’t appear to want the hassle of educating and/or supervising their kids.

F@ckyocouch

I do apologize for the rant but this shit baffles me. And the long range implications of allowing a society’s trends to raise a kid instead of good parenting, creating more gangbangers, depressed emo assholes, degenerate defectives willing to shoot up classmates, and people mentally susceptible to all manner of b.s… f@ck it. If the trend hasn’t become apparent by now, what’s the use. Their adult selves will fuel my side of the argument for pro-2nd Amendment stance.

Rich Munsey

100% spot on my friend. You are an old fashioned, the world is black or white, right or wrong no bones about it man just like me.
Fucking sleep….. I love that, laughed my ass off reading that. Thanks for the post and laugh. Spot on….Fucking Sleep.. gotta love that.

F@ckyocouch

I would like to say it is a generational thing, or being a father-thing, or having a father that was Navy and had me and my brother up every morning with him, even during the holidays and breaks. You got your ass to bed knowing that your dad had work for you to do, tomorrow, before you could play. Hate it for my kids, as I will do my damndest to be the same way. I still, to this day, thank my dad for teaching me that work ethic and keeping my sorry a$$ out of trouble using this method.

And I was worried I was one of the few that thought that way. I have just become a father of 3 kids in the past 4 years and stories like these scare the crap outa me.

Bobo

Not an F’ing chance in hell that my 12-18 year old would be allowed in a place like that, especially alone and unsupervised.

FatCircles0311

Everything about this story is embarrassing for the country.

I spent Sunday evening working on my class schedule for the upcoming Fall semester.

Kind of makes me long for the days of mere fights, assaults and assorted acts of vandalism after those events for the urban Utes I had the misfortune of policing.
I saw a short video of the scene in the parking lot, lots of yellow tags over shell casings in the lot.

Skippy

With a Facebook banner like that I thought it was a stip club my beef

Hmmmm…when I was in college after leaving active duty in 1996 I worked armed security for a company in Charlotte, NC. Mostly I did patrol duty (responding to alarms and such) but occasionally I would get tasked to be part of a security team at a “youth night” at a local club. This was, of course, in the inner city and gang activity was always a concern.

As for the “kids”, seeing what some of these high school kids were doing on the dance floor in front of purported “chaperones” was a real eye opener.

I was fortunate that we never had any drive-by’s in the few times I pulled that duty but there were a few close calls, reports of weapons and threats of gang violence. Being armed but without body armor I definitely felt under-equipped. Eventually I declined those assignments altogether since they didn’t pay any extra and I’m not going to risk my life for $7.00/hr and no benefits.

OK, let’s think about this…

Swimsuit “glow” night 13 years old and up get together… CHECK!

Night club usually patronized by adults… CHECK!

Normally serves alcohol…. CHECK!

Hot summer Sunday night… CHECK!

Sounds like good wholesome fun… NOT!

What ever happened to folks (including kids out of school for the summer) just staying at home on a Sunday night preparing for the upcoming (work) week?

F@ckyocouch

Ok. Rich and I aren’t the only ones (see above).

Count me in too

I’m in and will point out that the “parents” term is used rather loosely. Several years ago, the percentage of black single-parent families was 72%. I’m guessing that hasn’t dropped. Does it matter. Damn straight it does. But this no adult male approach to family life is fully in accord with BLM. If you haven’t checked that site out for content, please do.

F@ckYoCouch

I’m going to go out on a limb, now that they have 3 suspects in custody, and guess the perps were caught driving a minivan full of legally owned, registered ARs back to the suburbs.

sure glad the days of my youth were in the 60’s a much simpler time & far more enjoyable era to be a KID

HMC Ret

Roger that. When I graduated HS in the 60s, I had not once heard of a firearm being used to shoot another teen in school or at a party or whatever. Or, even brandished. People beat each other with fists or, if possible, simply ignored each other. Nowadays, pulling a firearm is the default mode to solve problems. You know the problems I’m speaking of, right? Looking at someone the wrong way, disrespecting my colors, talking about me or my baby momma, and a host of other horrible behaviors that simply must be addressed with the use of a firearm.

F@ckYoCouch

Don’t forget not getting a specific person’s “like” for ur witty meme on Facebook.

F@ck me in the goat @$$. Get hands on a gun, so we’re using a knife. No pistol packing citizens to out the POS down. Imagine that.

Sapper3307

Handguns are completely outlawed in japan.
Perhaps a concerned and armed criminal can stop the knife man.

F@ckYoCouch

Parisian harsh language or a PC scolding mid-stabbing. Unbelievable events… oh, wait, every sensible gun owner has been stating this sort of behavior was in the future of Nations sans gun rights.

F@ckYoCouch

Sorry. In above post, “Get hands on gun” was supposed to be preceded with a “Can’t”.

F@ckYoCouch

And not to tangent one of John’s or Hondo’s threads, but what does that bring the count to, thus far, in countries with strict gun control, in “guns vs. everyday items”?
