GOP platform includes improving military
According to the Military Times, the 2016 Republican platform, adopted at their convention this week in Cleveland, includes improving pay and benefits for the military as well as ending “social experimentation” and focusing on readiness and morale;
“Military families must be assured of the pay, health care, housing, education, and overall support they have earned,” the platform states. “In recent years, they have been carrying the burden of budgetary restraint more than any other Americans through cuts in their pay, health benefits, and retirement plans.
“About 75 percent of enlistees come from military families. We cannot expect that level of patriotic commitment to continue among young people who have experienced the way their families have been treated.”
Yeah, well, the Republicans bear some responsibility for the deterioration of readiness and morale over the last eight years. They’ve been more than willing to screw the troops to appear as if they were eager to get along with the President.
“We believe that our nation is most secure when the president and the administration prioritize readiness, recruitment, and retention rather than using the military to advance a social or political agenda,” it states. “Military readiness should not be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness.”
Republicans were in a position to prevent that from happening during the Obama years, but they would rather pander to traditionally Democrat voters rather than listen to their own base. While the GOP platform looks good on paper, they haven’t done anything lately to make me think they’re serious about actually accomplishing anything in this regard.

Establishment Republicans.
That why we have Forrest Trump for President.
LOL-stupid is as stupid does.
“While the GOP platform looks good on paper, they haven’t done anything lately to make me think they’re serious about actually accomplishing anything in this regard.’ Can’t argue with that, not with a straight face, anyway. What I can say is that a new president does tend to get his way the first two years. So, there is hope.
Correct. I’m all in on Repubs when they actually make a difference but as I recall, the budget drama years ago with obozo got them to agree to cut back military funding. And while they didn’t stop spending a dime, cutting back the military funding became a damn law! That’s how stupid the logic of both parties has gone – “let’s cut back military spending so we can look like we understand finance”. That fact that it puts the country in peril never bubbles up.
‘understood finance’ – falls off chair laughing.
If they understood finance, not one of them would get a paycheck for the next 10 years.
The only thing they understand is that taxes can be bumped up, giving them more money to play with. Now, if the federal tax amendment (yes, there is one, I forget which one) were repealed and they had to live on what they have now like the rest of us, they might sing a different tune.
The 16 authorized the income tax, but their ability to borrow money is enshrined in Article I, Section 8.
I’m not sure “enshrined” is an appropriate word here. Ain’t nothin’ holy about the way they borrow..
Is “borrow” and appropriate word? That implies that they will eventually return what they took to the original owner.
“Returning” it to their
fellow crookshookers and dealersfriends is not “borrowing” in any normal definition of the word.If we repealed the 16th Amendment we wouldn’t have a military. Think about it.`
Politicians gonna politic. Fuck ’em.
As Mr. Clemens said, they’re like diapers. They need to be changed often and for the same reason.
At least the Republicans are publicly recognizing the problems that exist in our military after eight years of a Democrat C in C. Of course they’re going to over-promise, they are politicians after all; but at least they are willing to admit that something has to be done for the benefit of ALL members not just the sexually confused/dysfunctional and the physically incapable.
Try getting even a gratuitous mention of the military into the Democrat platform without it including the need for more diversity and females in combat.
Both parties want to make changes in our military; the difference is in their priorities.
Poe, on the topic of the Republican military support, what’s your take on Mr. Trump’s comments about NATO? I recognize that Turkey is an absolute shit-show right now and there are valid questions of what it means to be an ally, but at the same time it sounds utterly reckless to suggest we won’t defend a de-facto treaty-based ally in the event of a Russian attack.
They need to realize that any time they stand up to the democrats in DC, they have to be ready to respond to the “its all the GOP’s fault!” media campaign that will happen immediately after.
Even when they “win” they end up losing because the democrats are bigger and better cry babies about it.
Hopefully they’ll keep their word this time, thousands of troops are becoming veterans every year because the bureaucrats are reducing personnel, morale, and entitlements so drastically.
Hopefully, they’ll keep their word this time…
Yeah…I wish I remained hopeful as well….I’m not even sure the way these morons are running the convention and the way so many are thinking they’re not voting in protest that the republicans will win or even keep the senate….but I would like to think people will realize that no vote or a wasted 3rd party vote is still a vote for HRC…
If you want a hint as to what the Democrat platform will be concerned with, take a look at this list of six scheduled speakers:

Makes me frickin’ sick…
I threw up a little in my mouth reading that. Mothers of the Movement, what a fucking disgrace.
Honestly, I have to start giving these two guys some serious consideration.

I’m guessing not having the mothers of the four Americans wideload abandoned to die in Benghazi speak at the convention was an oversight by the Democrat Party. Either that or wideload can’t defend her actions.
