Apaches used in Mosul

Apache

According to Fox News, Apache attack helicopters have been used for the first time against ISIS in the battle to take back Mosul.

A pair of Apaches were flying together, and one of them took the shot, the official said.

There was no immediate word how many ISIS fighters were killed in the U.S. strike.

The U.S. attack happened near the Iraqi city of Qayyarah, roughly 50 miles south of Mosul, Iraq’s second largest city and an ISIS stronghold where the majority of ISIS fighters reside inside Iraq, according to defense officials.

Seems like a long time in coming to me. “Defense officials” told Fox that the Apaches would only be used in Mosul and no where else in the battle for to take back Iraq from ISIS.

Uh huh……I’m sure that will last right up there with “no boots on the ground”.

Yeah. This is looking more and more like another creeping war, the kind of wars liberals always get in for their failure to decisively defeating the enemy when the enemy is just starting.

No matter. We will win. If our liberal “friends” let us. The price will be higher, but they don’t give a flying eff about the price.

GR_ATC

We were winning when I left.

I heard that-and I last crossed the Iraqi border into Kuwait in early December 2011.

PFM

I still remember when those same Apaches flew out of Diamondback, but we gave it back. Used to see them strafing traffic circles in Mosul at night to keep away the honest citizens that were placing IEDs.

Yef

Never went to mosul. The farthest north i went was FOB Stryker for some retarded reason i forgot. Oh, some theater QRF for a week, or so. I don’t know.

Yef

Hell, we had WON when i left. After that they only sent us to Aftfuckistan, because Iraq was secured.

Now i bet you a dime we will have to go back to fix all the failures of the community organizer in chief.

God I love that airframe! Hey ISIS, that whooshing noise is the sound of freedom you fucksticks. Enjoy your trip to Allah.

Breaking News: Washington, D.C. The American Civil Liberties Union has filed suit against the United States Army for naming their helicopters “Apaches”. It degrades Native Americans according to a spokesperson. When contacted, a spokesperson for the Apache Nation, replied, “Say what?”

don’t give the ACLU ideas…

Better rename the Iroqouis, Kiowa, Chinook and Blackhawk as well then. Don’t know of a single helicopter the Army hasn’t named in honor an American Indian tribe.

Claw

All except for the AH-1 HueyCobra.

Don’t forget the Snake.

She’s a Bad Mother F……..

Hondo

Um, Claw . . . the UH-1’s formal name was the “Iroquois”. “Huey” was an informal, if universally used, nickname.

The AH-1 was developed as a UH-1 variant. It’s original designation was the “UH-1H”, but that was changed to AH-1G shortly after (or possibly before) formal acceptance.

Claw

Hondo, I think you’re confusing the UH-1 with the AH-1, you know, 36 inches of Whispering Death.

Hondo

No confusion, amigo. The AH-1G was developed from the UH-1, and was originally designated the UH-1H. See above.

Claw

Roger. Wasn’t a gun man. Always preferred Slicks myself. I don’t think I would have liked being a Crew Chief on a bird that I didn’t get to fly on.

Just going by the name she was called in the Aviation Digest.

I know they had many similar components. Just not very well versed on the Cobra’s history.

Or even the UH-1’s history.

I bow to you and I hope it didn’t look like I was calling you out.

We’re still buds, ain’t we?

I’m still waiting for the Magic Power Ball numbers. You are working on those, right?/smile

Hondo

(chuckling) Hell, I had to look that one up to be sure. Thought I remember the Huey’s nickname and the Cobra’s history correctly, but wasn’t positive.

I learned a bit about the Army’s Vietnam aviation history and technology growing up around rotary-wing types, but it’s been a long time.

And no worries. When I’m wrong, no biggie. I own up to it, learn, and move on.

Now, about the Power Ball numbers: don’t I wish, brother. Don’t I wish. Would certainly change my current retirement plans. (smile)
