Air Force Master Sgt. Daniel Raimondo saving the world

DocV sends us a link to the CNN story about Air Force Master Sergeant Daniel Raimondo who was in the South Korean city of Pyeongtaek when he saw smoke billowing from a building, so he went to investigate. He saw a young mother and her three children trapped on an upper-floor of the building. He organized onlookers so that they held the edges of a blanket to catch the victims of the fire.
Onlookers scream and wave their hands as the 30-year-old mother holds out the terrified infant — the child’s legs kicking furiously — before dropping her to the crowd.
Another child follows, then another, before the woman herself leaps from the window — the only escape route.
Remarkably, all survived without injury Saturday, caught safely on blankets in a rescue effort orchestrated by passing U.S. service personnel stationed at nearby Osan Air Base.
There’s video of the mother dropping the kids and then finally dropping herself at the link.

Way to go, way to be MSGT Raimondo!!
Hellofa catch! But when did Osan move to Pyongtaek? Osan is in Songtan, CP Humphries is in Pyongtaek.
True, but it’s also only a few miles from Pyongtaek. Many would consider that close enough to call “nearby”.
Only a short drunken taxi ride between the two.
Or so I’ve been told.
A couple of Osan’s units have Det’s at Pyongtaek.
Pyongtaek incorporated Songtan a few years ago and it is all part of Pyongtaek City now.
Buses, city maps and road signs still show Songtan on them.
I saw this on the news last night.
Way to go young trooper !!!
Truly, the American Servicemen and women are the MVP’s of our world these days.
I saw that on the news. It was a heartstopper. Good for Raimondo, and the people he got to help him.
Life nets went out of style a long time ago because it’s extremely difficult to safely catch somebody with the proper equipment and trained personnel handling it. MSGT Raimondo made it happen with a crowd of bystanders (possibly with a language barrier) and improvising with a fucking blanket for FOUR good saves. That dude is a badass. My hat’s off to him.
Dang. He’s not buying a drink around me, way to go!
Well done, MSgt. Raimondo. Damn well done.
Outstanding job!!!
This just shows what the world can accomplish with American LEADERSHIP !
Outfuckingstanding!!!!
Props, Sir, Props
Interestingly enough, Fox News has an article that appears to be about the same incident. But it mentions a different pair of US military personnel and doesn’t mention MSgt Raimondo – though it does indicate that USAF personnel were also present.

Regardless, kudos to all who participated. Damn fine work.
“This just shows what the world can accomplish with American LEADERSHIP!”
Just imagine what we could accomplish if had any of that stuff in Washington DC.
