Ignorance Admitted – for a Saturday Silly
Preface: What follows is in no way intended to sound racist or involve any of them other evil words that get the SJWs (Social Justice Warriors) all in a tizzy. It merely highlights my personal ignorance.
In many parts of the world there is a sport frequently called “football” played by locals that involves a round ball. In many countries the game has all of the external trappings we associate with “FOOTBALL”. So I might be forgiven for mistaking a headline that mentions football for this other sport.
However, today I found this during my daily’ news cruise’: Football IFL: Rebels Win Second?straight Israel Bowl Title
“The Judean Rebels completed a successful title defense on Thursday of last week, overcoming a slow start to defeat the Tel Aviv Pioneers 32-14 in front of almost 1,000 fans in Petah Tikva.”
They ain’t playing Soccer folks. You can click on the link and see a pix of folks in pads and helmets, but I gotta offer one more quote:
“The Rebels ended up punting before the game ended, and three plays later the Judean celebrations began.”
Who, among this erudite group, already knew that REAL football is a currently celebrated sport in Israel (other than Hondo(grin))?

Not I
Nor I…

There is a professional football League in Japan as well. A guy I worked with had a son who went to Northwestern then played a few seasons there.
Hmmm, who would have thunk it?
But what a great name for a football player: Nimrod Pintel.
Reminds me of a buddy from back home that I grew up with whose name was Bernie Pellenwessel.
Of course his nickname turned out to be Piss Whistle. Good little basketball player.
Thanks for the funny, Zero.
You need to travel more (and away from miitary bases).
ESPN International normally broadcasts at least the NFL sunday and monday night games. I have been in countries in which Fox Sports International broadcasts Sunday games during the day. Sky Sports in britain has former NFL players as color commentators.
My point is that if the games are on local tv, why would it surprise that here are local leagues? Several countries I am aware even have their own pro leagues.
There is a whole world out there that isnt the US.

So you are saying that by traveling more, one’s interest in sports would increase?
(In the interest of honesty, fair play, full disclosure and all that, I will admit that I have probably listened to more sports while driving than at any other time. That has in no way increased my fondness for it, but did serve to keep me awake. Musical choices which are irritating do the same.)
Son is stationed in England- he tells me London goes nuts when the NFL comes to town to play.
Had no idea, Pons! Of course, I also could not tell you the names and/or towns from which they play for very many professional sports teams. College either.
