Israel strikes back
After six weeks of being on the receiving end of Hamas’ rockets, Israeli forces struck back yesterday killing more than a hundred Palestinians, mostly Hamas security forces. The Wall Street Journal reports;
Israeli defense officials confirmed their aircraft attacked Hamas security compounds across the Gaza Strip Saturday, making good on threats of a significant military response to recent rocket attacks launched into Israel by the Islamic militant group that controls the territory.
The exact extent of the raids weren’t immediately clear, but a Gaza Health Ministry official said at least 145 people were killed and more than 300 wounded.
Whether the attack devolves into a prolonged military conflict between the two sides depends on Hamas’ response.
Well, we can be pretty certain what Hamas’ response willbe don’t we? The Washington Post writes;
Defiant Hamas leaders threatened revenge, including suicide attacks. Hamas “will continue the resistance until the last drop of blood,” vowed spokesman Fawzi Barhoum.
So let me get this straight, Israel sucks up being rocketed for six weeks during a ceasefire arrangement. The ceasefire ends and they retaliate for the fire they received for six weeks during the ceasefire and Hamas is outraged? Where’s the outrage from the supposedly “industrialized” nations about the barbaric behavior of the Gazans?
The “moderate” Abbas chimes in;
In the West Bank, the Palestinian President Mr. Abbas said in a statement that he “condemns this [Israeli] aggression” and calls for restraint, the AP quoted an aide, Nabil Abu Rdeneh, as saying.
You’re condemning the wrong side, Abbas.

Yup, Jonn. That’s it in a nutshell. Damn Israelis! They keep retaliating whenever those poor Palestinians break ceasefires.
Just wait. By weekend’s end I’m sure we’ll be hearing from the “world community” about how *disproportionate* Israel’s response was. Just like Lebanon ’06 all over again.
And people wonder why there can’t be any peace in the Middle East.

And I’m sure the Obamunist will say something wise and insightful, like “this isn’t helpful”. Whenever Hamas or Hezbollah do something, the only thing you hear from the “industrialized nations” is crickets.
“condemns this [Israeli] aggression” and calls for restraint???
Returning fire is NOT AGGRESSION. Self defense is no vice.
The Palestinians and Hamas are perpetually outraged and they got what was coming to them. Good for Israel!
Yes, and as Eric noted; it won’t be long before the Israelis will be criticized for their disproportionate response. As I have known: “If you place yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.” I said it in ’06, and I say it now: http://www.cafepress.com/frankopinions/1658972, If these 7th century rock throwers can’t learn, and cannot be good neighbors, they deserve all they get.

I’ll believe the Palis are suffering when I start to see some photoshops by Mister Greenhelmet. Where is he now? Still in Beirut, is he?
Actually Israel violated the terms of the ceasefire on the night of the US election. Isrealis fired on a tunnel the Palestinian tunnel – claiming they were preventing the Palestinians from kidnapping more Israeli soldiers.
The best thing the US can do in this situation is stay the hell out of it and cease sending any aid to Israel and/or Palestine. But I’m not optimistic the US can keep her nose clean here. Supporting both sides during a conflict is the oldest (and most profitable) trick in the book – and its something the US has perfected over the years.

Mr. Greenhelmet has been spotted in as many places as Tourist Guy! 😆
One has to look at the big picture here. Innocent Israelis and Palestinians have been dying for decades in a conflict based on religious principles. Children, pregnant women, the elderly, sons and daughters all killed. The injustice, the pain, the grieving, the misery – and yet it continues. The people of the world feel it and we’ll all end up involved one way or the other and if no way is found to put an end to it, it will be the end of all of us.
Religion should serve to help the peoples of the world get along and should never be used for harm. But man will always find a way to use religion to justify his means to an end especially if there are financially lucrative factors involved.
We, the common people, know nothing of the true wheelings and dealings of governments and people involved in this conflict. All we can do is to protest and say ‘enough is enough’. Stop spilling blood, feeding hatred, and perpetuating the misery.
