Truck driver desecrates veterans’ graves

| January 7, 2016

Elwood, Illinois Police have arrested Faraz Namdari, of Chicago for driving his semi-truck over the graves of veterans at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery acording to the Herald News;

Disobeying the “No Truck” signs posted at the entrance to the cemetery off Route 53, the driver told police he was traveling Monday afternoon to a warehouse located at the nearby intermodal facility operated by CenterPoint Properties, according to a news release from Elwood initiative Safe Roads Illinois.

There is no motivation given in the article, but an earlier, more local source caught the police chief speculating about the driver’s motivations;

Hayes also told WJOL that he’s never seen anything like this in all his years in law enforcement, “I’ve got to tell you, this was very blatant, to the point were I felt this person was intentionally trying to degrade the grave sites of our fallen veterans and our national cemetery. If I were able prove that he’d receive more then citations.”

Your mileage may vary, but I think the Chief is on to something.

“Faraz Namdari”. Nah, desecration of US veteran’s graves couldn’t possibly be the motive. That sounds more like a good ol’ boy Southern Baptist who’d gone out the night before, tied one on, and was a bit hung over!

(I hope the sarcasm here was clear.)

All joking aside: there’s no proof that this was deliberate – yet. But given the circumstances, I don’t think that possibility can be disregarded.

Twist

Sounds like a good Mormon boy that got lost on his way to church.

GI JANE

He’s a muzzie. No surprise at his shitty behavior. He needs to be turned over to some veterans. We would apply the appropriate punishment, if you get my drift.

Looks like the trucking company has already completed their investigation….end of story they say. Hmmm I don’t think so.

“He was driving a 2015 Freightliner Tractor Trailer for Marko Transport, Inc., in Sauk Village at the time. The Marko Transport spokesman said Namdari was headed to pick up a load on Mississippi Road in Elwood and got lost.”

“A spokesman for the driver’s transport company, who asked not to be identified, said, “It certainly wasn’t deliberate. The driver had legitimate business there and that’s the end of the story.” Attempts to contact the driver were unsuccessful.”

I’m betting the the Chief of Police is gonna find something and someone is going to be on the hook for damages…

Umm, BS. There is no way, simply no way you end up INSIDE the cemetery, after passing numerous signs, a railroad crossing that is barely wide enough for two cars, pass MORE signs while looking for Mississippi Ave.

The chief of police said this was intentional for a very good reason.

The families of those whose graves were desecrated, as well as every veteran organization should sue this company for negligence. They must not have provided thei driver with GPS or even a map. Since they say the diver did not intentionally do this, the fault must be theirs for failure to train and equip their employee.

Yeah, that trucking company rep is a piece of shit too. How in the hell do you get lost and end up driving through a cemetery. Seems like a pretty hard thing to do IMO.

HMCS (FMF) ret.

Guess the driver or the trucking company have never heard of GPS.

Looks like they are claiming the GPS got him lost. From their Facebook Page:

“We are truly sorry for this and are doing everything we can to make it right. This was not a deliberate act. Our driver was in route to a nearby shipping facility located on West Mississippi St/Ave. The road was closed from State road 53 to turn right and go west on Mississippi St/Ave so the driver proceeded south and his GPS directed him to turn onto Hoff Rd where he then entered the Cemetery. We have been in contact with representatives for the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery since the moment of the occurrence. We intend to make full restitution for any and all damages. This was not in any way a deliberate act and both the driver and our company and we are sorry for what has occurred.”

Because it’s all over the news.

They would have walked away and said “the hell with it” if he hadn’t been caught.

My only thought about their comment is that I’ve been in quite a few cemeteries; all of them had roads through the grounds, wide enough to handle a truck, and none of those roads ran over graves.

Charles

I would also add that GPS isn’t the pancea that it is sold as by Hollywood.

There have been plenty of times folks have done stupid with GPS. At the same time, there are plenty of shipping companies that used to make folks look at and read conventional road maps as well. Simply because know how to do so if GPS shat it self would prevent mistakes like this or folks attempting to go one way on a wrong way street.

I’m guessing the company spokesman is in CYA mode and is attempting to limit the possible financial consequences for his firm. If they don’t stick to the “this was an accident” line, they’re probably on the hook for mucho dinero.

They may well change their tune if/when some other info comes to light.

Company spokesmen are paid to tow the company line.

FatCircles0311

Scumfucks gonna scumfuck.

OWB

Oh, yeah. Every time I’ve been lost I’ve found it necessary to drive over graves to find my way out of wherever it was to wherever it was supposed to be. Sure. Happens all the time. Like, never.

Lying scum, and the enablers who encourage the lying scum.

A fitting punishment would be community service at the local hog farm.

And doing so while earning prison wages.

Now I’m wondering why some truckers are getting shot at by other drivers on the interstates.

Lost, my fat Aunt Harriet. There’s no reason to drive an 18-wheeler into a cemetery of any kind on a lame excuse like that.

Interesting name!

In LE we call that a ‘clue’.

Out!

PFM

I’ve been a truck driver for over 20 years, and you see these boneheads using GPS like this all of the time. Most GPS units don’t have low clearances, restricted roadways, etc. for commercial vehicles programmed into them, and these knuckleheads follow them like they were written in stone. The old skills of trip planning before you leave the yard using an atlas and telephone are long gone – many of the new drivers today barely speak english, anyway. They give them their CDLs at some fly by night 2 week school and unleash them on the general public. I still carry a map with me, and if I am unsure of where I need to go I stop and call the business and use the damned map to figure out how to get there. Of course this case seems highly suspicious to me…

Ex-PH2

Here’s a map of the cemetery. You enter on Hoff Road from Rt. 53.

http://www.cem.va.gov/CEM/cems/maps/AbeLincoln915.pdf

Directions:
Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery is located approximately 50 miles south of Chicago in Elwood, Ill. From Chicago O’Hare Airport, take Interstate 294 East to Interstate-55 South, exit #244 Arsenal Road. Turn right (east) and travel approximately eight miles. Turn right at Route 53 (south) and proceed two miles. Turn right on Hoff Road.

If the ground is frozen there, and damage to the graves below the surface can’t be determined until spring, but even an empty rig like that weighs several gross tons.

If there is damage, the company who employed the trucker should pay to repair it. Period. I wonder how he’d feel if a bunch of ‘lost’ people drove over his parents’ graves.

PFM

The company will pay – just depends on how quickly the Feds start proceedings. If this was private property lawyers would be running to file a lawsuit 🙂 .

And we have this, from the Chicago Sun-Times:

http://chicago.suntimes.com/news/7/71/1228295/police-trucker-drover-six-graves-will-county-veterans-cemetery

Doesn’t sound to me like the guy was terribly bothered by what he’d done. And the article said he passed seven NO TRUCKS signs enroute to where he ran over the graves.

Ex-PH2

Here’s a link to the Google map for the cemetery. He must have been completely blind to not see where he was going. It is plainly marked ‘CEMETERY’ at the entrance.

https://www.google.com/maps/@41.3896625,-88.1247519,142m/data=!3m1!1e3

It starts to look intentional to me.
