Happy Thanksgiving
Once again, it’s real turkey and not a can of “Turkey Loaf” for dinner. I won’t be in the messhall dressed in my blues ladling gravy for the Privates – so see there are things to be thankful for this time of year. My son is on his way back from overseas after more than three years in Germany, preceded by a year in Korea, preceded by a tour in Afghanistan. So another reason to be thankful. My baby girls will be here for the holidays along with my grandson and his dog.
Two and half million unique visitors to TAH so far this year.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving while I enjoy mine.

Happy Thanksgiving, Jonn! Enjoy the family!
And thank you for this wonderful site. It’s one of the many things for which I am thankful this year.
Absolutely. And many, many more to come your way, too.
Happy Thanksgiving Jonn, and to everybody else that posts here.
I’m getting ready to prep the turkey for baking. A little holiday trivia:

Happy “Holy Day”! 😀
Happy Thanksgiving everyone…..I’ll not have one of my sons home, but I know he’s safe….it’s all that matters.
Note: Those of you who have been here for a while will recognize the post below. I first posted it in 2010. Feel free to add a name, if you like… Today many of us will be with family for a Thanksgiving day of turkey, football, and squabbling. We will think of loved ones who are no longer at the table and say a prayer of thanks for them and our many blessings. We will remember others too, those who made the supreme sacrifice in service to our country. Below is a sampling, by year, of those whose sacrifice was made in South Vietnam on Thanksgiving Day itself. When I started this small effort, I quickly found that there were far too many men to list here whose casualty date fell on Thanksgiving. For instance, on Thanksgiving in 1968, 14 men died, although only three are listed below. Perhaps you will read their names and know one. In a very real sense, regardless of our age, our dates of service, or our branch–we knew each of them. God bless them all and God bless their families, every day but, especially, today. THANKSGIVING DAY CASUALTIES, SOUTH VIETNAM, NOVEMBER 25, 1965 Arthur Melvin Gordon, Private First Class, US Army; Age at Loss: 19 William Martin Savoren, Lance Corporal, USMC; Age at Loss: 19 Donald Raymond Bonko, Captain, US Army; Age at Loss: 28 THANKSGIVING DAY CASUALTIES, SOUTH VIETNAM, NOVEMBER 24, 1966 Grady Edward McElroy, Private First Class, US Army; Age at Loss: 22 William Hixson Hardwick, Private First Class, USMC; Age at Loss: 20 John Neto Rodrigues, Staff Sergeant, US Army, Age at Loss: 36 THANKSGIVING DAY CASUALTIES, SOUTH VIETNAM, NOVEMBER 23, 1967 Francis John Muraco, Corporal, USMC; Age at Loss: 21 Gary Doyle Roerink, Private First Class, Us Army; Age at Loss: 20 Leonard Leroy Bevels, Sergeant, US Army; Age at Loss: 25 THANKSGIVING DAY CASUALTIES, SOUTH VIETNAM, NOVEMBER 28, 1968 Laurence E Williams, Private, US Army; Age at Loss: 19 John E Moulden, Specialist Four, US Army, Born 28 November 1945; Age at Loss: 23 Lonnie Michael Reeves, Lance Corporal,… Read more »
Happy Thanksgiving dickweeds. I wish only the best for you and yours. I am thankful for the men and women who are standing watch today and their families who support them as they do so. May they all come home safe. There is no place like home.
Well done, Jonn.
I’m thankful that I’ve survived another year, that I have 3 wonderful children, and more friends than I could ever have imagined.
I still feel blessed to live in these United States, and I get to come on here each day and hang out with some great people.
Thanks to everyone who makes TAH such a special place.
Back at you Jonn. Thanks for TAH. Best wishes to all.
From over here to all of you over there……Happy Thanksgiving.
If you’re deployed, DS – as the Sgt. Esterhaus character on “Hill Street Blues” used to say: “Be careful out there”.
Thanks Hondo…I keep my head on a swivel.
We had a nice Turkey dinner though; Camp Morehead isn’t big, but they feed well here.
Nice bit of nostalgia there….my Dad loved Hill Street Blues.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
I’ll be spending the day gobbling down more than my fair share of creamy gravy off of some loaf at my local truckstop. Enjoy yours too!
sincerely
John “Faker 6” Giduck
Happy Thanksgiving, all.
Even you, Taylor. And you, Whinestein. Your ridiculous diatribes here and elsewhere serve as a reminder that we still live in a nation where one is free to make such inane statements without fear of a midnight knock on the door.
For that – and the other freedoms we still possess, despite the left’s attempts to destroy or otherwise limit them – I’m thankful.
Thank you Jonn. I would rather be able to appreciate things I cannot have than to have things I am not able to appreciate.
There are many talents I will never possess. Abilities that will always be limited. Dreams that will never come true.
I suppose we all have that in common. Because of you so many of us come together, bringing what little talent we each possess, to make a difference on an issue we all cherish.
Mr. Lilyea, may this holiday find you well and those you love fulfilled. Know this my friend, I appreciate what you have done.
Have a happy holiday

Happy Thanksgiving to all and thank you Jonn for this site where I can share a few thoughts with my fellow brothers and sisters in arms.
Yes, no Turkey Loaf this year, the real thing. (24 pounder in the cooker as we speak) Although I did have to eat greasy cheeseburgers at the Rod&Gun Club one year (while on Game Warden duty) at Fort Campbell, they were still better than C-Rat Turkey Loaf.
Enjoy your day.
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! My sentiments exactly, Hondo. Thank you for saying it for myself and everyone else. Some day when you get through the AO, we’re going to have to have a cold beer or two, too. Or, your beverage of choice. I’m especially thankful for the many friends I’ve made here and elsewhere.
For you troops that are away from home, thank you for your service, be as safe as you possibly can out there and us old guys back home will wrestle with the politicians, within and without the military structure.
Anywhooooo…From our humble outpost to you and yours, Happy Thanksgiving. That goes for you too, Lars and Whiningstein and the rest of you whiner’s roaming the country side, being offended by everything they lay eyes on.
THANKSGIVING DAY, 1969
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, A PROCLAMATION
On October 3, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln invited his fellow citizens to “set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of Thanksgiving…” This was the year of the battle of Gettysburg and of other major battles between Americans on American soil. To many, this call for a national day of Thanksgiving must have seemed strange, coming as it did at a time of war and bitterness.
Yet Lincoln knew that the act of thanksgiving should not be limited to time of peace and serenity. He knew that it is precisely at those times of hardship when men most need to recognize that the Source of all good constantly bestows His blessings on mankind.
Today, despite our material wealth and well-being, Americans face complex problems unknown before in our nation’s history. In giving thanks today, we express gratitude for past bounty and we also confidently face the challenges confronting our own nation and the world because we know we can rely on a strength greater than ourselves.
This year, let us especially seek to rekindle in our respective hearts and minds the spirit of our first settlers who valued freedom above all else, and who found much for which to be thankful when material comforts were meager. We are, indeed, a most fortunate people.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICHARD NIXON, President of the United States of America, in consonance with Section 6103 of Title 5 of the United States Code designating the fourth Thursday of November in each year as Thanksgiving Day, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 27, 1969, as a day of
National Thanksgiving
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twelfth day of November, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred sixty-nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the one hundred ninety-fourth.
RICHARD NIXON
Happy Thanksgiving Jonn. My son will be back from the ROK in March. And to the rest of the TAH gang thanks for manning the ramparts for all those past Thanksgivings. Hope this one is a great one for you!
Happy Thanksgiving to all you. Thank you for you service to all military, former military and first responders. If you are not in those categories, then thank you for your support . I hope that you all have many, many, more.
My friends went out of town and being that we were sticking around, they dropped off their lab w/ us for five days.
Missed the memo on that one. Must have been last on the list; you know, 2 hours from liftoff last.
But being the nice and helpful guy that I am, I took the dog.
So this morning, I wake up to a very repugnant smell. Upon searching for the source, I found without a doubt the largest, most huge, steaming pile of Phil Monkress in my living room that I have ever seen!
I mean, I could have climbed this pile of Phil Monkress and planted a flag and called it Mt. Lars. It was that big. It was.
Checking to see if my wallet was still in place being missing money and Phil Monkress are frequently used in the same sentence (it was secure), I started to get pissed.
But then it dawned on me. There are worse things in life, for damn sure. And this was just a blip on the radar. And I am truly lucky and thankful to have you folks to share my experiences with and vent, if you will.
On that note, everyone enjoy the holiday and my best to your families and friends on this truly remarkable day.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Jonn. And a Happy Thanksgiving to those that post here!
BREAKING NEWS Washington, D.C. The White House. In keeping with tradition, President Obama pardoned the biggest turkey in the White House. The bird responded, “oh shit” am I in trouble now.
Jonn,
Thanks to you and the entire staff at the TAH Worldwide HQ.
I am thankful for my family, country and the honor to continue to serve after my Navy retirement.
I am most thankful for our military, LE and first responders who provide that blanket of safety and security that permits us to sleep peacefully at night and enjoy all that our great Nation has to offer.
I am also thankful for the new interior WeatherTech liners, front and rear bumper (dear) guards and the new port and starboard steps I purchased for my brand new 2016 Ford Explorer, Ruby Red, Fully Loaded … Thanks Dan!
Out!
Same to you and yours Jonn, and DITTO with all the other fine people of TAH! I’ll even say it to Lars who is likely seething while calling it a “Celebration of Genocide” or some ka-ka like that his ponytailed pot-head Perfessers told him!
Happy Thanksgiving to you, Jonn, and to all.
Since I am truly grateful to have available a wonderfully open space like TAH, I just want all of you to know that I would trade everyone of you for a new stove.
Except Doc Savage, because he isn’t here to defend himself against me.
Go stuff yourselves, to the hilts, with turkey!
THANK YOU MA’AM, WE LOVE YOU!!! 😀
Again, Happy thanksgiving to all my Brother’s and Sister’s in Arms that inhabit these pages.
And a Happy Thanksgiving to all the civilian types that also inhabit our esteemed pages at the best MILBLOG on the web.
If not for this site I would no doubt be quite leery of saying what I think to many others as the thought po-po are working hard to reduce our freedoms to only what they think we should have up to and including our own lives as we see fit to lead them.
I turned 60 yesterday and drove for Uber, my new job . God saw fit to give me a very nice birthday present of a lot of business and the subsequent rewards that go with it.
2.5 million unique visitors, I am proud to be a part of that group.
I couldn’t imagine what this page would look like if all of them commented on them !
Congratulations to Jonn and the rest of the crew that keeps these wonderful pages open for the world to see.
Happy Thanksgiving to all !!!
Thanks, Jonn!
May all who frequent these pages enjoy a glorious day of Thanksgiving.
Little to add to the above comments so I’ll offer this: TAH has been both a learning tool and an outlet of sorts for me.
AND… For some reason my usually foggy memory has dredged up the image of being lost in the WV panhandle and seeing some curiously cute guy standing in the middle of the street waving and pointing.
Soooo… I am Thankful to be just one of the “Two and half million unique visitors to TAH so far this year.”
That covers rather a lot of the things I’m Thankful for.
Thankful to be at home all weekend, for a change.
Hoping everyone else is having as wonderful a day.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!! Enjoy the weekend!!
From all of us here at the Camp Woodman, to all of you around the US and around the world, Happy Thanksgiving.
My g’son even showed up, hippy that he is. We welcomed him joyfully.
Thanks, Jonn. Happy Thanksgiving to all. This year, I’m thankful that my oldest son is not deployed and that my other son is not working today. And, that I didn’t burn the turkey, the stuffing or the gravy.
I had nearly forgotten what a pleasant place this is when a certain someone isn’t here. BP down. Monitor undamaged. Nice. very nice.
Happy Thanksgiving to all in the TAH Nation. With one or two notable exceptions, I would have been humbled and proud to have served with any of you. Have a safe long weekend.
Jonn,
Thanks for this great forum, and for allowing me to post my occasional ramblings. Hoping you and yours have a happy Thanksgiving and a prosperous year.
