Greensboro “gun turn in” yields big numbers

The North Carolina city of Greensboro put their collective foot down in regards to gun violence by holding a gun-turn-in program to get guns off the street. Time Warner Cable News reports on the big numbers;
Almost 1000 people took “A Pledge of Non-Violence” Saturday at Destiny Christian Center in Greensboro.
This was to show their commitment to safety across the Gate City.
Gun owners also turned in unwanted firearms and ammunition at the event.
Signing the pledge and turning in weapons was spurred, in part, by an increase in gun violence across the city.
This year gun violence has increased 68 percent from last year.
Almost a thousand, eh? Well, that number is a little bit misleading. Almost 1000 people may have taken the pledge of “non-violence, but how many “unwanted firearms and ammunition” were turned it? NRA-ILA and Brietbart report that “almost 1000” were turned in. Well, not quite. Actually, they took a BB gun and a knife off the streets of Greensboro. That’s it. That’s closer to a thousand, than zero is, right?
In fairness, the police said that they weren’t going to buy-back guns beforehand and that the event focused on the pledge part. But still the line in the Time Warner article was disingenuous about the “firearms and ammunition” that were unwanted. If your BB gun has anything to do with fire, it’s not right. You can clearly see the BB “ammunition” in the screenshot of the gun I took from the TWC News video at the link.
Good job, though, Greensboro. I feel safer already.

But the point is that they feel good about themselves which counters your inconvenient facts.
It is obvious that the infestation of libretardism is spreading.
If the word ‘gun’ was detached from ‘gun violence’, it would be more accurate. I try to be reasonable, because everyone is allowed to have his own point of view, but this panicky stuff is ridiculous. I have no respect for these twits.
OK, I’ll take the pledge, and not the kind you use to clean furniture.
“I, OWB, do pledge to instigate no more violence in 2016 than I have instigated in any other year.”
How’s that? And, no, you may not have any iron skillets, hot grease, steak knives, baseball bats, or any other item which I might be forced to use should someone else decide that violence in my face is a good idea. I have no interest in looking for violence than I have in inciting it, but certainly recognize it and will defend myself from it should it ever come my way.
Remember, guns don’t kill people, BBs kill people.
WTF is wrong with people? You think your turning your gun in is going to protect you from a thug, a muslim, a thief or any common nutcase? Did the lack of guns help those people in Paris? How would that little fiasco turn out if people had been armed? As a former Police Officer, I am ashamed to the soles of my feet of chiefs of police that have sold out their city with this kind of unbelievable BULLSHYT!!
The Paris cops stayed outside for about 2 hours before storming one of the sites.
They wanted to make sure the bad guys got enough dead people to make the headlines better.
2 hours and now the EU is going to pretty much ban law abiding citizens from owning any kind of firearm for their own protection…
Talk about retarded, here just shelter in place, we won’t even try to save you and you can’t have anything to protect yourself with, but don’t we look good doing this !!!
Horse fuck…
You really have to wonder what a single nickle of taxpayer money is doing being spent on this silliness. But it’s not my tax money so that’s good. Greensboro is a violent place and the violence–dare I say it–is not being perpetrated by those who would sign this petition. The BB gun looks like a plant. I read that it was still in its box. The chief of police just issued an order to patrol not to pull over cars only for equipment problems. So, don’t drive in Greensboro. The guy who hits the brakes hard in front of you may not have had working brake lights for quite some time. I suppose the chief is proud of his efforts. In fact, here’s a tribute to him:
What scare me about the photo is, clearly, there are some of those deadly CO2 cartridges still out loose on the streets.
More media lies to bolster the anti-gun agenda. The sheeple don’t know any better, so they’ll go along with the lies/
OT. That is the game. Repeat, ad nauseum, the same message that no guns means safety and, eventually, despite the 2nd Amendment, a ‘properly constituted’ Supreme Court will declare that Americans do not have a right to own guns. All it will take is a reinterpretation of the operative clauses and that’s that. Then the buy-back and confiscations can begin nationwide.
Somehow, I don’t think the confiscation thingy will work out too good.
I hear you but the gov’t has a great deal of coercive power and can do all sorts of nasty things to get compliance. There will be a soup-to-nuts program associated with confiscation, from IRS action to passport cancellation, to bonuses for rats, to criminal charges that threaten jobs and livelihoods…just think like a NAZI and be assured that when the time comes, the gov’t will get most of the guns and, over time, will get the rest.
I’m with you O/Trooper.
There are enough pissed off Veterans that have been drummed out of the military for no reason whatsoever other than they weren’t asskissers.
That’s after the current crop of baby boomers clinging tight to our guns and religion pass on.
I just don’t see any kind of gun confiscation happening in the next 50 years.
The myth of inanimate objects causing violence needs to end. Sherif should be fired for gross incompetence.
Somehow, I started thinking about the idiotic event at Kent State University, and who had guns and who didn’t.
OOOH, a BB gun and a knife as well as a BUNCH of signed pledges? Well HAPPY-HAPPY-JOY-JOY with Smurfette getting gangbanged by unicorns and care bears!
If you’re bored, punch the last eight words of this comment into Google.
I wish that our city would do a gun buy-back. I’ve got at least four guns that I paid less than $100 each for. Most buy-backs give $250 per gun. If I sell three or four of them, I could get a decent AR and plenty of ammo for it, too. Ohh, and I would loudly let everyone at the buy-back know exactly what I was doing.
I”ve got a couple of Hi Points I paid about $50 each for. I’d turn them in for that $100 or $250 each and go get some brand spanking new ones and pocket the difference.
I was really hoping they’d have an empty AT-4 tube they could use to claim they got a rocket launcher off the streets.
That one still makes me laugh.
I live in Greensboro and I don’t foresee the following headline any time soon:
WOULD-BE CARJACKER REMEMBERS HAVING TAKEN NON-VIOLENCE PLEDGE, DECIDES NOT TO COMPLETE CARJACKING IN PROGRESS, TURNS SELF IN TO POLICE
Yeah, it was pretty ridiculous but all kidding aside that bb gun is realistic enough to get some neer-do-well lit up.
