Afghans bring notes from their terrorist

| November 22, 2015

Andy11M sends us a link to an Associated Press article about Afghans seeking refugee status in Europe buying forged notes from their local terrorist threatening them for aiding western forces in Afghanistan. According to the article, the Taliban doesn’t send letters to their prospective victims these days, but the forged letter can come with a $1000 price tag;

“Of the threat letters now being presented to European authorities by Afghans, I’d say only one percent are real and 99 percent are phony,” said Mukhamil, 35, who has forged and sold 20 such letters. Like many Afghans, he has only one name.

He sticks to a simple formula — accusing the buyer of working for Afghan or U.S. forces — and adds a Taliban logo copied from their website.

“To this day I have only ever known one guy who genuinely got a threat letter from the Taliban. All the rest are fake,” he said.

There is no shortage of customers. With unemployment at 24 percent and the insurgency raging across much of the country, the government expects that 160,000 Afghans will have left by the end of the year, four times the number of departures in 2013.

Even the Taliban admits that these letters are fake, that they don’t do that anymore – they talk to a relative of the offender in an attempt to convince them to stop aiding the Taliban’s enemies. But, then, Afghans aren’t the most truthful race on the planet anyway, so who knows what to believe.

“… they talk to a relative of the offender in an attempt to convince them to stop aiding the Taliban’s enemies. ”

Gee, I’d love to a fly on the wall to hear that conversation! I can just imagine the techniques they use to convince. A lot more convincing that a simple letter I bet.

CC Senor

“… the forged letter can come with a $1000 price tag”.

But does it come with a certificate of authenticity?

Ex-PH2

What? Are you saying that the Taliban are now claiming some sort of stolen valor thingy about these letters?

Oh! The horrors! What’s next? Fake camel diseases?

L. Taylor

Yeah, living in a war torn country with 24% unemployment, under constant risk of being victimized by the Taliban.

Fuck those guys for trying to leave. Why don’t they just support the Taliban so they can be safe?

GDContractor

Keep talking Lars.

L. Taylor

“Keep talking Lars.”

I knew eventually someone like you would imply they were going to report me or even try to report me to someone to see if they could generate consequences for my opinion. Well, , nothing I said is disloyal or illegal.

So fuck off with the big brother threats.

GDContractor

Ha! You make my point dipshit. I just say “keep talking” because each time you open your yap, you prove how stupid you are. See above.

So, in closing. Keep talking.

L. Taylor

Sorry, I mistook the comment. When I was in the service I got used to little pricks reporting me for comments I have made simply because they dislike my politics and assume being liberal is somehow being disloyal to the government.

GDContractor

Golly gee. Really?

A Proud Infidel®™

DAYUM GDC, you’re making “Pinky” Lars SQUUEEAL like a dog’s chew toy!! 😀

GDContractor

Unlike the make-believe world of academia, your words and ideas in the real world must compete in order to survive. It’s pretty clear that your ideas, as you articulate them (poorly), suck. But, by all means, keep talking.

On this 24% unemployment thing. Why doesn’t Obama simply loan the Afghan president his phone and his pen? Surely you must know, the government creates the jobs. Problem solved. Dipshit.

L. Taylor

I was the governance officer for an entire regional command in Afghanistan, 4 provinces. One was the home of the Taliban. I know more about this issue than you would ever see in the press.

Stop acting like I do not live in the real world.

It is annoying.

GDContractor

How many jobs did you create?

L. Taylor

troll much?

A Proud Infidel®™

It sounds like a legit question to me Larsie-pinky-poo!

Joe Williams

Lars, here is a couple of ideas. One stay in Syria and fight for your beliefs and country. Two, you will have a paying job . Quit running away , bunch of cowards. Lars, would you run or fight if the thing was happening in the USA? Joe

L. Taylor

First, we are taking about Afghanistan, not Syria, second, “no”, staying in Afghanistan will not give you a paying job. Third, the overwhelming majority of Afghan refugees are females and children.

As for males? I was the governance officer for a regional command, the economy of Afghanistan is fucked. There are essentially no good paying jobs for the vast majority of military age males. Most are effectively illiterate and when they can work they work for about $1 per day.

And guess what most people do who have families during war? Leave the area.

That is not cowardly. That is being a parent.

If you had a wife and kids would you leave them behind to join the Afghan armed forces, even if you COULD qualify? Imagine how vulnerable they would be to retaliation or predation without you there much of the time.

It is not as simple as “they should with for their country.”

While I agree that most single male refugees that are able bodied should join the Afghan armed forces the fact is most Afghan refugees are female and/r children.

48% of Afghan refugees are female, and 46% are children. http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/jun/19/refugees-unhcr-statistics-data

It is unclear how many are single fathers with children.

2/17 Air Cav

Lars. First, you say that “the overwhelming majority of Afghan refugees are females and children.” Then you say that “the fact is most Afghan refugees are female and/r children.” You follow that up by saying that “48% of Afghan refugees are female, and 46% are children.” I am not going to call you disingenuous, Lars. That’s too soft a word for a manipulative liar. Or maybe you truly are an idiot with piss-poor reading comprehension. I don’t know whether you are one, the other, or a combination of both. The percentages you abstracted capture a single year, 2012, yet you use them in the present tense. That’s not nice. Worse, you treat the females and the children as separate subgroups when, in fact, some percentage of the females (note that they are not qualified as women, by age, such as over 17, by marital status, or anything else ) are among the percentage of children (i.e., those under 18.) Whatever it takes to further the cause, right Lars? FORWARD!

L. Taylor

The numbers have not changed much. In fact they are likely to have gone up more since the first to leave and the last to return are disproportionally women with children.

And I know that some percentage of the female are also children. How would the fuck would anyone think anything else? I did not say anything otherwise.

I posted the evidence. I was not being disingenuous. And I was not lying.

And stop following my comments looking for a fight. Especially if all you are going to do is make one up. Nothing I posted was untrue.

Green Thumb

Did your mom write you a note to give to your teacher, Lars?

2/17 Air Cav

Cripes, Lars. You cite 2012 numbers as current and think that’s okay? And then you fail to recognize that some percentage of females are included among the 46% who are children and you not only stand by that but pretend to take umbrage when it’s pointed out? You are a piece of work. And, yes, I will continue to challenge your bald assertions, and when you do offer evidence, I will check it for myself. If that’s fighting, then okay. But, no, I will not stop and just let you have an unchallenged run.

GDContractor

Just like the other day he cited the fact we have deported 600,000 people, which is totally irrelevant to the discussion about refugees, given that pesky principle of non-refoulement and its processes.

I don’t know if he is a manipulative liar, yet. I sure hope he keeps talking.

L. Taylor

I don’t recall the comment, but I am pretty sure it was in response to a comment about Obama and his unwillingness to do anything about immigrants that break the law.

And non-refoulment does not prevent the deportation of a refugee that is dangerous to security of the nation or members of the public.

Which I told you the first time you brought it up.

Most of the shit people post on the board is complete nonsense pulled out of their asses and extreme right wing rhetoric which is taken as gospel by much of the regulars.

I at least try to substantiate what I say with support.

I am not a liar. And you trolling is fucking obnoxious.

A Proud Infidel®™

Larsie-pinky-jiffy-poo, DO YOU EVER get your “facts” from anywhere other than DU, HuffyPoo, PBS or the DNC?

Ex-PH2

Oh, I just love this.

Per Lars: ‘I at least try to substantiate what I say with support.’

No, you don’t unless you’re forced to, and then your so-called support is usually suspect and/or inadequate.

And another Lars canard: ‘I am not a liar.’

Hmmm… I think that claim may not bear up under close scrutiny, but lars the Carp does frequently contradict himself.

More corn, Carp?

Ex-PH2

Uh-oh, here’s another sign of deteriorating brain cells: ‘I don’t recall the comment’ (Lars’ very own words)

Short-term memory loss so early. Not a good sign.

A Proud Infidel®™

WELL GEE WHIZ, Larsie-parsie-puddin’-tame, what if, JUST WHAT IF a number of those poor sweet peace-loving muzzies were really terrorists hell-bent on getting inside the USA to carry out attacks? I mean GOLLY, look at the 9/11 hijackers, Saudis, Egyptians, JEEPERS, they came from countries that we’re allied with, HUH? OH, and some of them had overstayed their Student Visas which made them *GASP!* – illegal aliens!! Yeah, here you are again screeching, bawling and moaning with skid marks in your “tighty whitey” underwear while you degrade and berate all of us that dissent with your regurgitated Kool-Aid. Guess what, Pinky-poo? It’s very likely that you’re full of shit, OK, KID?

L. Taylor

ok, kid.

A Proud Infidel®™

YEAH, Pinky-poo, and IF you served like you say, did you ever take into account how quickly Afghans changed sides during the years following the Red Army withdrawal from A-stan, my squealing candyass?

L. Taylor

You do not know a god damned thing about the period of the Soviet occupation or the “changing sides.

More bullshit from an ignorant kid. You were probably not even alive when the Russians pulled out of Afghanistan and you sure as shit do not read much.

Following the Soviet occupation Afghanistan fell into a 12 year civil war (even if we don’t count much of the internal dynamics at the time as a civil war). It was not about “changing sides” it was factional fighting mostly along tribal and geographic lines. With heavy influence from Pakistan.

Change sides? From whom? Afghans changing sided against other Afghans? It took about 3-4 years of civil war before the Pakistani backed Taliban was even much of a side for people to join. And even after a decade of fighting the Taliban still didn’t control many areas.

A Proud Infidel®™

YOU’RE WRONG YET AGAIN little Larsie-pinky-jiffy-poo!! I was in middle school when the Ivans invaded and I watched what news we had then. I’ve likely been around the block more than you have, and I’ve made a successful living in things you wouldn’t last five minutes in, my thin-skinned little creampuff! Many Middle Easterners change sides and alliances faster than a woman will change her mind when she’s shopping for a new pair of shoes! How about women’s rights under sharia law as well, many Middle Eastern muzzie males treat their livestock far better than they treat their women, so there! You
are SUCH a childishly arrogant little poodle dick that I get a kick out of seeing you spout off when you’re confronted with the truth and I’m sure you’ll end up as a Government Bureaucrat somewhere, you’ll get eaten alive in the real world! BYE FOR NOW, KID, you’re starting to bore me!! 😀

Ex-PH2

Gee, I saw all that stuff broadcast daily on TV. I was surprised, not only at how open the Afghans were about their revolving door loyalty, but also at how much Latin is embedded in the Russian language.

If I get a TV again, I will have to find out from my provider if I can get Canale 2, or if I have to stick with online access. If they can provide Polska and Korean stuff, why not the rest of the world at large?

2/17 Air Cav

Deer Achmed,

We now who you are end you soon be deed unles you leeve.

Sined, Taliban

UpNorth

So, the country that produces a population that is “effectively illiterate” is getting people to manufacture bogus threatening letters? Why would anyone believe that anyone, anywhere, would read the letters?
I think your letter should have been signed sined with an X, 2/17.

Hack Stone

They are receiving threatening letters from the Taliban? Follow up question; Is it customary for citizens of Afghanistan to have doors on their mailboxes?

Ex-PH2

I don’t know about Afghan mailboxes, but I need a new one. Do they even get mail over there? I thought it was all done by bird signs and goat droppings.

sj

Why do you folks feed Lars? Ignore him and he’ll go away.

A Proud Infidel ®™

It DOES seem fun to see him go off when anyone dissents with his endless crap, much like a dog playing with a squeak toy!

3/17 Air Cav

SJ…….I agree, I’m not going to waste my time!

Perry Gaskill

Personally, I want to go back to the part about how somebody died and left Lars in charge of four provinces in Afghanistan. This opens up a whole new universe of satire…

A Proud Infidel®™

It makes me wonder if that wasn’t some obscure desk job he got in order to get him out of everyone else’s way like they do with gym and library job assignments on the AD Enlisted side of the Army? 😀

Hack Stone

So they had him doing community outreach by manning the desk at the local Afghan library. You know, the country with 98% illiteracy rate.

GDContractor

Awwww Dad…

I mean, “Yes sir!”

2/17 Air Cav

sj. If I thought that ignoring him would work, I would do it. I fear that with all of his bluster and bullshit, he will believe that his comments are being accepted as true or accurate if we remain silent. I’m willing to give it a try, but it’s an all-in or not proposition. Okay, we can start with Ex- and API. If they are willing to ignore the carp, I will also.

2/17 Air Cav

And GDC! Must have GDC on board with this too.

GDContractor

I am one with the universe. Nothing matters.

In other words, I’m on board. Old time hockey… Eddie Shore.

2/17 Air Cav

Most excellent, Grasshopper. It will be tough but I’m developing a Quitting Lars: The 12-Step Program, Give or Take 11 Steps.

Need Ex- and, the toughest of all, API now.

Ex-PH2

I’d rather discuss various ways of using convenience foods like pancake mix and refrigerated pastry to make quick meals.

For example, this morning, I wanted to find out whether or not the buttermilk pancake mix could be diluted enough to make crepes for crepes avec champignons et boeuf, and by golly, it can. Make them cover the full bottom of the skillet, cook theme the regular way (moon craters on the topside, then flip) and then stuff with the beef & mushroom mix, fold, and put in a warming dish till they’re all finished. Make a clear gravy of the beef broth and cornstarch and a small amount of sea salt, Put the crepes on your plate, add a ladle full of gravy, a salade verte, haricots verts, and some olives, and enjoy your meal with a good book.

Oh. What was the subject?
Oh, never mind.

A Proud Infidel®™

I have to agree with 2/17, he’s SUCH an arrogant candyassed narcissist that he’ll think the shit he posts is actually right and he’s made us agree with him if we don’t respond. I wish the jellyfish-spined little snotweasel would live up to his promise to go away!

2/17 Air Cav

Well? Can you do it? What if, no matter what the horse’s ass, progressive/marxist/commie bastard writes, we write a one-word reply each time?

2/17 Air Cav

Hell, it doesn’t have to be a word. A dash will do. Think it over. Until it’s all or none, have at it!

Ex-PH2

You’re asking a lot, 2/17 Air Cav, but I do try to make short posts. Most of what the Carp says is so off-kilter and frequently completely wrong, that it gets easier to offer him corn to just leave.

Ex-PH2

Well, boys and girls, I sent our Glorious Leader Whatshisname a podcast interview with someone who actually works in intelligence and discusses how to end ISIS. It was worth the 45 minutes of my life to listen to it.

But that blowhole on legs will disagree with the guys who’s the real expert, not because he himself is such an expert, but because his inflatable ego is whispering in his ear about it.

2/17 Air Cav

Ex- Yes, it will be tough to ignore Lars’ inane comments and his frequent errant comprehension of what others of us write here, but, really, enough is enough. I did not miss sj’s comment days ago that he has been shying away from TAH lately. Others probably have, too. So, right now, API, GDC, myself and others are done with him. I have noted that a number of commenters who are more than capable of refuting Lars’ crud, have already elected to cold shoulder him. I would prefer a united front on this but if you want to feed him, that’s your call.

Ex-PH2

I’m with you, Air Cav. As I said, I prefer to discuss making elegant dishes from simple ingredients, or the emergence of Cubism out of Picasso’s trip to Africa. I shall no long throw corn to the Carp.

2/17 Air Cav

Cool beans! That’s nearly all of the small group that always responds to him. We join those who have unilaterally done the same and preceded us in doing so. I likes it!

Ex-PH2

I will add that I agree with the idea that just ignoring him will make him think he’s right. The ‘point & laugh’ method does work, as does ‘giggle-snort’, ‘Uh, what!?!?’, and mild but brief and meaningful SMArks.
An economy of style is good practice for writing books. It’s what I live for.

GDContractor

Good. So it appears that we have formed a union and 2/17 is our shop steward. No one better cross the picket line. Legs get broke. Happens all the time.
Yours in brotherhood- GDC

Ex-PH2

What are you going to do about the Hondo?

GDContractor

I’ll volunteer to loan him my mantra.

2/17 Air Cav

That’s his call. We’re not the Left. We won’t try to force people to conform.

HMCS (FMF) ret.

Forgin’ Frank Visconti’s expanded his business to Afghanistan? I wonder if he’s still charging them 20/hr for his ‘assistance’

Maybe he and “BLOBFISH” Chevalier are teaching how to push bogus paperwork?

This link:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3547741/

is about medical referrals for Afghanistan refugees in Iran between 2005 and 2010. It says:

“The total number of cases in this study was 23,152. Most referrals were for females (52.6%), followed by males (47.66%)”

So they are not mostly women – it is about a 50-50 split.

“By age, 38% of Afghan refugees in Iran are 0 – 14, 59% are 15 – 59, and 3% are 60+ [27],”

so about 60% adults and not mostly children.

Tough luck.

I read several studies. It is quite difficult to find reliable demographic data on these people. The sentences above are good because they speak directly to the point. Most of the other studies don’t organize the information that briefly.

I think that it is remarkable that the great majority of Afghans in Pakistan are “internally displaced persons”, not refugees, and that about 45% of those living in Pakistan were born in Pakistan. Most of the IDP left during the Russian invasion and have not returned. There are about 1.2 million AFG people living in Pakistan. Most of them are Pashtun.

Joe Williams

Lars, being in the military means being being fed and paid.
