Afghanistan’s $43 million gas station

Donkey

Thomas sends us a link to the story about the US-funded natural gas station in Sheberghan, Afghanistan which was built as an experiment to see if Afghans will switch fuels from donkey to natural gas propulsion for their vehicles.

The station was constructed at the behest of a US military task force originally created to help spur economic development in Iraq after the US invasion that was later replicated in Afghanistan in 2009.

The cost of $43m is far larger than the estimated cost of building natural gas stations in other countries – which ranges from $200,000 to $500,000.

By comparison, a similar project in Pakistan was estimated to cost only $306,000.

Sounds about right.

Someone out there has an amazing retirement account set up for themselves.

That photo is a classic. I want the T-Shirt!

I got nothing on this because I simply would not know how to refuel a donkey.

Further, the thought of where the refueling probe might go adds more confusion as to why this project was undertaken in the first place!

Am I missing something here?

I don’t know, I am so confused lately!

Somebody is making some nice bank with these over runs…

Or funding something entirely other than a service station that should have cost a half mil at most…

Thunderstixx

And how much you wanna bet that there was a huge donation to oblowme, killary or some other lib in that cost.
You just can’gt make this shit up…
$43,000,000.00 for a natural gas station.
Why don’t they just feed the donkey a couple of Chipotle burritos, food poisoning works wonders for methane production…

Skippy

being a officer in the Army has many perks including tons of free tax free money..
from the American taxpayer

sj

Really? I missed the memo.

Skippy

maybe I should say, a few rotten apples I’ve seen in my army stent

sj

That’s better.

Skippy

Yes it is. we do need to clean out the toxic and inept leadership
And put the responsibility but on our officers instead of shielding bad leaders. That also should most definitely include bad NCOs
And most of all take politics out of the military….
But that ain’t going to happen anytime soon 🙂

Totally agree. An officer that steals should serve double the penalty because he/she violated a special trust (to the nation and to his/her troops) that came with commissioning. Penalty (enlisted and officer) should be be commensurate with grade: the higher the grade, the higher the penalty.

I went to a military school that kicked your ass out for cheating, stealing, etc., and naively thought my new commissioned brethren would never lie to me. Shock when a CPT screwed me on a property book sign over. Good news is that is the only time it happened in 20 years or maybe I got smarter and demanded to touch and feel every single thing I signed for. Trust but verify.

I was enlisted for 11 years and commissioned for 14. Could just be my own experience, but I felt that the senior enlisted corps had a hell of a lot more integrity than the officers. Again, could just be my experience.

They don’t have cars… but if we build a gas station, they’ll import cars from… oh, wait… they can’t because they can’t drive of the roads thanks to the IEDs.

This is as stupid as a shrimp on a treadmill or studying the drinking habits of underage Chinese prostitutes.

That poor donkey. Left high and dry by an idjit. Just like the idjit who thought this was a good idea.

Well, since the vehicles that they drive over there are generally used as truck bombs or as machine gun transports, and not too many people have been able to keep POVs these days, what was the point of doing this?

Maybe I should apply for a USGov donation to me and declare my 3rd world status. I could use the cash.

$43 million dollars wasted on that trash. Wow.

My ex had the perfect idea. Buy an island off the US coast. Declare it to be a sovereign nation. When the Marines land to take it back, surrender without a shot being fired. Voila! Live on tax money the rest of your life!

Hell, it sounds good — in theory. Being an American and trying this might throw a hefty wrench into the machinery, though.

Follow the money trail…. Bet a dime to a Franklin it leads to Hamid.

I’ve seen more coordination from a drunk gorilla trying to start a car with a soggy French fry.

If only someone with BALLS would take a look at everyone connected with a goat-f*ck like this, fire every damn one of ’em with prejudice – no severance, forfeited retirement, permanent public blacklist from any government job forever – maybe we could actually make a dent in this kind of problem. Ah, I can dream….

A natural gas station. . ..
as far as I know, with the diet over there, no station needed. They create enough natural gas on their own.

Jason

So am I to understand that some kind of green initiative wasted a lot of money and produced little results????

Color me shocked!!
