Donald Trump has “more training militarily than a lot of the guys that go into the military”

| September 8, 2015

Yeah, I’ll admit that is just the New York Times playing gotcha with another Republican, but it’s still pretty stupid of Trump to open himself to criticism like this;

Donald J. Trump, who received draft deferments through much of the Vietnam War, told the author of a forthcoming biography that he nevertheless “always felt that I was in the military” because of his education at a military-themed boarding school.

Mr. Trump said that his experience at the New York Military Academy, an expensive prep school where his parents had sent him to correct poor behavior, gave him “more training militarily than a lot of the guys that go into the military.”

Actually, through much of the Vietnam War, Trump took advantage of deferments to avoid any real military service, because everyone during that era only served when they were forced to serve, if you listen to the stank-ass hippies. You know, even though 9 million Americans served during the Vietnam and only 1.7 million were actually draftees. Only about 600,000 of those ended up in Vietnam.

“My number was so incredible and it was a very high draft number. Anyway so I never had to do that, but I felt that I was in the military in the true sense because I dealt with those people,” he told Mr. D’Antonio.

The author seemed taken aback by this claim. Not many of the academy’s alumni “would compare military school with actual military service,” he wrote. “But the assertion was consistent with the self-image Trump often expressed.”

During an interview for the book, Mr. Trump removed a shoe to show the author the cause of his medical deferment. “Heel spurs,” he said. “On both feet.”

Yeah, well, those bone spurs didn’t seem to hinder his sports career; Trump was a member of the varsity football team in 1962, the varsity soccer team in 1963, and the varsity baseball team from 1962-1964. He was also the Cadet Captain-S4 (Cadet Battalion Logistics Officer) and lead his school in the Memorial Day parade down Fifth Avenue in 1964.

In other words, in typical Trump fashion, appearances are more important than substance. He could parade like a champ, but that “killing people and breaking things”, well, that’s for the working class.

Now, we’re going to be treated to more Trump as he refuses to apologize and doubles down on the dumb, in typical Trump fashion once again.

Trump is a fucking buffoon. To put things in perspective, Lawn Dart Danny is a Trump supporter. Let that sink in.

Danny who?

This notion of the donald’s falls into the giggle-snort category.

I wonder if he still has recurring nightmares of executing a “right face” when the command was “left face,” or executing a right flank when the order was left flank, resulting in his marching in opposite direction to the movement of the formation? 🙄

USAF E-5

Never forget that first day of basic. I hear the TI screaming at a guy chewing his ass over missing the movement. It goes on for probably 5 minutes and suddenly his face is in front of mine, “Don’t you understand me boy!?” “I can’t understand a thing you say through that southern accent Sergeant Hartman!” I yelled right back at him. Shit, worst he’d do would hit me and no way he’d hit as hard as the old man. He smiled. Said,, “Listen Dummy” and yelled the cadence. Nobody missed a movement after that, guy was magic.

What I wouldn’t give to unleash the likes of PN Fenstermacher on Da Donnaldo.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Trump is the gift that keeps on giving for the democrats…he can’t avoid stating the stupid, and then refusing to acknowledge he was being stupid. He attacks those who criticize or even dare question his royal presence, precisely the kind of leadership we don’t need anymore at 1600 PA Ave…

2/17 Air Cav

I know what Trump is talking about. He felt he was in the military because he attended a military-themed boarding school. I always felt I was a nun because I attended a Catholic-themed school. To this day, believe it or not, I wake myself many nights shouting I-16!

That’s only because you’re penis’ nickname is BINGO.

I contemplated that but the Internet says that’s plural rather than possessive. There was also argument as to whether your penis could actually be possessive of anything.

Wood? Piffle. Sister Mary Xavier, RSM, used a metal ruler on the knuckles and palms. I would tick her off by refusing to flinch or make a sound when I got whacked.

MustangCryppie

I endured nine years of parochial school, good ole Saint Teresa’s. We had a patch on our shirts and frocks that said STP. To us that was Saint Teresa’s Penitentiary!

Anyway, in 4th grade our teacher was Sister Grace Dorothy. A card carrying sadist she was. She loved to bang kids’s heads up against the blackboard, whip us with the knotted rope that all the nuns wore, and beat out knuckles with her ruler. I’m sure she had other torture techniques, but I’ve blocked them out.

One of my dopey fellow students decided that it made sense to come to Sister Grace Dorothy’s class with a triangle shaped metal ruler. Three edges and LOTS of heft. The “good” sister was walking by this bonehead’s desk one day and had passed by when she realized what she had seen. She quickly backed up and picked up the ruler. Fondling it in her craggy fingers, a thin smile came across her face. A thin, sadistic smile.

The ruler was confiscated.

The rest of the year was very unpleasant and very, very painful.

Students were so afraid of her that instead of asking to go to the bathroom, they would pee in their pants right at their desks. A lovely woman.

She disappeared at the end of the year. We figured that she was found out and retired to some quiet place with no children and hopefully no people…period.

Ah, good times!

MSG Eric

Did you claim PTSD with the VA for that? Because, you know these days it seems you can and receive it.

OldSarge57

Well… if you ever got your hands whacked with a wooden pointer and watched that rubber tip fly off and bounce around the room, that could be fun. Wooden rulers had much less flex.

2/17 Air Cav

For all of the occasional physical pain that was justly and unjustly meted out to me by those nuns, I say, with all sincerity, “Thanks.” I learned a lot from those women, including how to parse a sentence, write, and take pain.

MSG Eric

So what you’re saying is, you learned well the three R’s. Reading, wRiting, and Ruler.

Hondo

Here ya go – enjoy the memories. (smile)

OldSarge57

I went to a Catholic Military Academy. Then I spent 33 years enlisted. The nuns were tough and I got to parade around in a uniform, but I think my training was a little “tougher” in a pickle suit.

The “Donald” is becoming more and more like his buddies Goofy and Mickey every day. For those of you who remember, I think he is on par with H.Ross Perot. Except H. Ross had more impressive ears.

Former 11B

I want to get mad about this, but I just can’t. Trump is, and always has been, an obnoxious blowhard asshole. Now he’s just doing his usual thing while invoking the military. Meh.

If the guy gets hit by a bus I would be happy, but I felt that way long before he said this, and well before he shat all over John MCCain’s service.

All that said, part of me truly hopes he wins the nomination. Forcing an actual Republican candidate to run third party might just put the final nail in the coffin of our corrupt two-party bullshit system.

Hondo

Be careful what you wish for. Multiparty democracies today aren’t exactly paragons of either governmental stability or good government.

Former 11B

I hear you, a ton of parties isn’t the solution either. But I think things would be markedly improved by the addition of at least one more viable party.

David

so we would have two? An altermative to the plutocratic Republican-Democrats we have now?

MSG Eric

We have a “two party” system right now.

MrBill

I’m with you. One reason I’m hoping that Biden runs is that I’d have a lot easier time voting for him than for Sanders.

desert

You can’t be frigging serious!!!

MSG Eric

I read an article about Sanders recently and his “wealth” which was ‘poor’ for a Senator.

But, the interesting thing I found was that even though Bernie makes over 3 times what I do, he pays 20% tax to my 21% tax. I would throw that as a hypocrisy for a “socialist” who thinks everything should be “free” because “taxes” pays for it.

Snotcrow

Yeah, that’s not how a socialist taxsystem work. Neither should anyone “volunteer” to pay taxes on top of what the government demands. I am not a big Bernie fan – but he sure do live what he preaches.

IMHO, Trump is the lesser of all the other evils. That being said, I wish the election were tomorrow so he could not continue to make me seek and vote for the runner-up of the other evils.
Meanwhile, can anyone remember the media going after the Evil Superior like this before he was elected?
The ONLY given that will NEVER change for the next election is: Shillary can kiss my ass today, tomorrow and the day before if she is a retro psychic. Not a chance in hell would she EVER get my vote, even if she was the only candidate.

MSG Eric

I wouldn’t give her the pleasure.

A Proud Infidel®™

I’ll say this: I’ve never been a big fan of trump, but if he DID get the nomination( and especially if he had Ben Carson as his running mate) I’d hold my nose and vote Trump JUST TO give the middle finger to the longtime DC Crowd that has for the most part whored itself to polls and K Street Lobbyists.

“Politicians and diapers need to be changed often and for the same reason.” – Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)

Casey

…Aaaand I think you just highlighted why both Trump and Sanders have been so popular. Voters from all across the spectrum have pretty much had it with the DC crowd, especially the crony capitalism.

Hmmm. Trump/Carson vs. Biden/Warren? I still say the latter combo is a strong one for the Democrats.

What will Trump do next? Tell us he’s a successful business man?

2/17 Air Cav

Can you imagine how much crap is in his closet? Remember, he was a Democrat who hobnobbed with them for years. If ever he were to actually be considered a contender, the NYT and WaPo would be hitting us with new revelations daily. Right now, he’s pretty harmless, just a summer sideshow, a warm-up act before the headliners appear.

GDContractor

I have thought about this and I think it is in the liberals’ best interest to let him ride until late in the election cycle, unencumbered by any serious assault on his business acumen and/or character (or lack thereof in both cases). But I do bet they will have some real dirt to release at a time when it is most advantageous to them. This is the only logical reason I can come up with for the media giving him a pass up to this point.

Sparks

Trump must have watched the movie, “Taps” with Tom Cruise, too many times.

MSG Eric

He might even think he was Tom Cruise’s character since his hair is shaped like a Beret.

So far, The Donald has been over the top, but hitting all the right buttons as far as illegals, Gooberment over-regulations, etc.
Now, he’s just gone off the rails with this military shit.

What’s the title of this Trump biography, “Profiles In Self-Obsessed Absurdity”?

I’ve explained the finer points of Catholic theology. That don’t make me the Pope.

I once smoked a mulie buck on the run at 400 yards, offhand. That don’t make me Carlos Hathcock.

I’ve done the Memorial Stair Climb. That don’t make me a 9/11 survivor.

I’ve had sex with some very hot females. That don’t make me Ron Jeremy.

CAARNG 68W

I’ve always felt “The Donald” to be an extreme embarrassment to the Republican Party, and our values of strong diplomatic affairs, culminating with a strong military and a very active foreign affairs minded State Department.

I’m a younger voter, but have not missed an election since I registered – a huge matter of personal pride in my civic and national contribution to America. I registered as a Libertarian a month after turning 18, but typically vote Republican. Living in the Glorious People’s Republic of California, I can have some fun with the presidential vote, but take senatorial, gubernatorial and congressional elections very seriously (Dana Rohrbacher, another Vietnam Draft Dodger is my Congressman, I might add).

This is the first election – ever, that I have considered voting Democratic.

Blasphemy; right?

The Dem in question being Sen. Jim Webb.

I’m not going to delve into my interest in him, but I am curious to ask another generation of American Veterans what they think of the man.

2/17 Air Cav

I cannot believe there are now at least two prospective voters willing to cast their ballot for a Democrat. Where have you been during the Pelosi/Reid/oBaMa/BiteMe reign? We are fucked at home and abroad like I never dreamed in my ugliest nightmare that we could be. And you want more? From whom, Wide Load Clinton? The socialist who bends over with glee when hooligans want to take his stage? How ’bout that honest and brilliant statesman Joe Biden? We are in deep shit when Veterans go there–excepting the Navy and most USAF, that is.

RunPatRun

Webb is getting exactly zero media time at present, we’ll see if things turn soon. I’m voting for who I consider the best candidate, R or not. Personally, I think TRump is the best thing going, for the Dems.

OWB

My thoughts on Webb are pretty much the same as on all Dems and most of the Reps, at least nationally. It took the collusion of both parties to make a complete mess of this country.

There are many pockets within the country where the two-party system still works effectively if not particularly efficiently. If folks can continue to encourage local accountability we may yet recover from what has been done to us.

Meanwhile, it has become almost impossible for me to find a Dem for whom I can vote even locally. They have mostly all gone over to the dark side and taken entirely too many of the Reps with them.

Hondo

Just “Donald being Donald”. Again.

If bluster can win an election of any kind, including primaries, Trump is most likely to get the nod from the voting public on the righthand side of the political fence. He might even stir the mugwumps and ‘I never’ voters off their bony asses to hit the polls. Stranger things than this have happened. But does he have any real understanding of the very real socio-political issues building up everywhere? Not so sure he does. He’s always been a noisy, blustering attention grabber. But what’s his plan for financing an oversized influx of refugees from the Middle East into this country, should that take place? We have a national debt at the $18 trillion level, and rising. How is he going to fix that? Can he keep the US economy from tanking into a looming recession, costing jobs and taxable wages, never mind the other things that go along with all of that? And for that matter, what is his plan for assimilating refugees who may come here and don’t want to be assimilated into American culture? Is he going to tell them to go back where they came from? Does he have even a tiny clue in regard to stopping the machine of tribal warfare in the Middle East? He doesn’t have a plan. He just has a big mouth. All HONK but no goose. Whether or not he’s been in cahoots with the democraps is immaterial; he enjoys the attention too much to just vacate the spotlight when voting results are in. If he has a valid, concrete plan, I’ll listen. Frankly, Sanders’ only solution is to raise taxes AGAIN. Shrillary started her campaign by announcing her intention to put 500,000,000 solar panels and wind turbines on homes across America. Well, my house isn’t suited for that. I’ve already looked into it, and I am not going to pay for it on my house or anyone else’s, so where is she going to get the money to pay for it? Oh, I know: raise taxes. Joe’s asleep at the switch, period. He’d probably tax you extra if… Read more »

Okay, I have a theory and y’all are going to be exposed to it. Check your shot record.

The democratic politicians do anything to stay in power because people in power get to live well. Let in more people from south of the border? Absolutely, they will vote for me and I get to live well. Run up the national debt? Sure, we have to pay to keep the democratic base voting for us. Create issues (or fail to address issues) overseas that will blow up on us in a year or five years? Where do I sign? The democratic political machine is a conveyor for ambitious people to live better without having to actually work for it. Why care about the future? We cannot predict how it will turn out, working and saving is no guarantee that I will get to live well, and we can probably pump-fake those loser republicans anyway so Carpe Diem!

How else can we explain the Iran non-deal and our national debt? Our behavior at the Mexican border? The Ukraine and Crimea? Putting most of our aircraft carriers in the body and fender shop at the same time? And stupid shit like mandatory paid sick leave?

It’s a free country; do what you want. But just remember: that happened a lot in 1992 – along with a ton of “protest votes” cast for Perot.

That mindset in turn gave us a guy you might remember as POTUS. His nickname was “Slick Willie”.

Richard

Mr. Hondo Sir – we agree. Arithmetic and unwillingness to compromise will give us a democratic president in 2016. A split republican ticket is a gift that only the republicans can deliver. If the democrats work for it or even talk about it, the republicans might notice and that would queer the deal.

On the other hand, I probably cannot bring myself to vote for Trump.

Jarhead

Taking a second look at the opening paragraphs in this post brought something to my attention I had missed earlier; and now I have a better understanding of Trump’s personality. Being sent off to boarding school by wealthy parents absent the time or willingness to raise a healthy socially adjusted son; now there’s the breeding grounds for MANY a politician. Cold, little time for growing emotional attachment, in short a hell few of us who post on this site ever had to suffer. My pretty much life-long contempt for most politicians (particularly those who spend decades sucking from the gub teat we provide)one day realized those brought up having been sent off to boarding schools, and coming home for holidays are born with an ego average Joe can not understand or accept. If any other who post on this site suffered the above set of circumstances, you are a rarity as it has never entered my mind reading comments. Stop and think about it a while and I believe you’ll see where so many politicians’ warped personalities and perspective have manifested themselves. It’s those same cold-hearted miserable S. O. B’s that know how to fool people into believing they are so special and DESERVE to be elected, over and over. Learning this about Trump may or may not change anything in my mind other than knowing where that freak personality originated. ‘Nuff rambling from me.

Biden or Trump, looks like we’re stuck for yet another four years with a buffoonish clown.

C. Long

Vice President Biden is one of Colbert’s first guests this week so I’m hoping that’s when we will hear a yes or no concerning his running. I really like him character wise but I feel he is both out of steam and aware of it, I don’t see him running. He’s earned a retirement.

GDContractor

“I really like him character wise”.
yeah, I like him because he said in the VP debates last election “I didn’t vote to fund a war on the government credit card”, except he fucking did. He’s a fucking liar of great character. The father of Tyrone Woods should have fucking decked him. And such a student of history…did you know in the 1929 stock market crash President Roosevelt came on the TV and told everyone what was going on? Biden’s a fucking genius, but don’t believe me, just ask him.

C. Long

He’s a character for sure but he seems genuine and that goes a long way.

Ex-PH2

Biden is one step short of senile dementia. He is not simply a social moron. He also doesn’t know when to shut up, never mind what is and is not appropriate to say or do.

On the other hand, 4 years of his naptime in the Oval Office might even swing all but the most idiotic lefties further toward common sense. Remember all the gaffes after Nixon? The press went after Ford, but Carter was much worse.

I mean, really. It was only multiple instances separated by a few decades. Ending his 1988 Presidential run when he got caught was such a foolish mistake on his part.

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, he is a serial liar and quite bad at it, blaming others for his lies. One would think he’d be a good liar by now but, like everything else he does, he sucks at it. I’ve seen several websites swamped with people who claim to be supporters of Donald Trump, frequently in full fantasy mode. I have concluded a substantial fraction of them are as real as the Coffee Party.

All online posts are superficially anonymous, and this site seems relatively clear of phenomena like fake racists, sock puppets, and Ronulans, who became famous for skewing online polls with multiple votes. The assessment Trump here is distinctly different from what I find elsewhere.

As for me, I am a Liberal who is thrilled by that lovely class of Republican candidates, because it is high time the Democratic Party got sent out for its stint in the wilderness, so it can renew itself. The Democratic Party is nothing but old, tired, stupid, and radical, The Repubs, though, have a deep bench of successful governors and really intriguing outsiders.

I really like Ben Carson, Carly Fiorina, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio. Even though he’s a dynasty type, I’ve been impressed with Jeb Bush, anyway. I liked Chris Christie better than I thought.

I kept asking the Repubs for candidates, and they did it, for both Houses of Congress, and now the President. Now, if they can run one that is also an actual Republican, it would be nice.

OldSoldier54

Trump’s a bozo. I could go for any of the folks you mentioned, but Dr. Carson Carly Fiorina are at the top of my list.

I really don’t believe the Donald has any intention of actually making a run at the Oval Office, no matter how big his ego. He is simply working on his brand. Every time someone clicks on a story about him his net worth goes up.

If he is actually elected, this country will get exactly what it asked for.
