Not honoring Chattanooga victims
Someone sent us these pictures from their cell phone last night that they took at the Chattanooga recruiting station memorial for the five service members killed there last week;
I’m not saying that this guy isn’t a veteran, but he looks like warmed over dogshit in that uniform. His flag is on the wrong shoulder, he’s wearing no cover and who rolled those sleeves for him. But, then, him showing up dressed like that was all about him, wasn’t it? You don’t need to show up in your AirSoft play clothes to pay homage, in fact we would prefer that you wouldn’t.

I can only speak for myself, but I haven’t worn my utilities since my EAS ten years ago other than for doing dirty jobs around the house. I also have never known any of my old pals from active duty to wear their cammies in their civilian lives. When I see clowns running around town in old cammies, I just assume they’re frauds unless evidence shows otherwise.
I turned mine in to hiking shorts the bottoms the tops are in the closet in fact they probably don’t even fit anymore Lol…
I still wear Army issue desert boots. Why?
1- I work in the desert and they’re practical.
2- Uncle Sam saw fit to issue me more pairs than I could wear out in the last 6 years of my career, so why buy workboots? Not buying boots enables me to increase the beer and gun fund.
I still have three sets of combat boots one set of Black water proof tanker boots, and two sets of Oakley tan combat boots one pair has never been worn. All size 14. And I can’t wear any of them anymore due to Bo-Bo overseas
Take ’em to Miller’s Surplus, they’ll give you store credit for them!
Sell the Black tanker boots on eBay. You will probably get $70-$80 for them. People love those and the new ones are very prohibitively priced.
I often wonder, what is the appropriate response is, but it is never to yank out my ill fitting uniform and go seek out the spotlight.

I could get behind the point if the pic was taken by local news and splashed all over the place or was posted to FB by the guy himself but it appears that but for the cellphone pic and its publication here, no one but a few people would have seen this guy. It could well be that the guy, whether anyone agrees with him or not, was sincere, built the cross himself, on his own time, with his own dime, and put it up without fanfare. If there is more, other than the pic, please share it.
Actually, the picture of him was in local news until, for some reason, they took it down. I’ll see if I can find it again.

What Dwaine Scott from NBC News should have been doing instead of taking a picture was replanting the staff holding our flag so it would not drag on the ground.
Whoever it was that posted a 3’x5′ fly flag on a 4 or 5 foot staff in the first place need to be educated on proper flag etiquette.

The only real uniform anything I wear (besides my shined LPCs) is my BDU boonie cap. It doesn’t even have any rank on it, pins on it, or anything.
Actually, I can’t say that. I also have a drawer full of brown cotton t-shirts I got when we switched out to tan. My wife hates them and throws out any she finds with a hole. I still have 3 packs unopened.
I still wear my cargo belt because my holster clips on it nicely.
It’s like the first Air Force guy who showed up at the site, crying and making such a fuss. He claimed that was the office he was recruited out of. I was like “show a some respect, then, you little bitch and stop crying”. Don’t even know if he was actually military or not.

Wore out the last of the brown t shirts last year, still wearing tan t shirts. Had green socks until about a year ago, then the wife got disgusted with them and made me pitch them
I’m not suggesting this was staged, but how in the hell do you get a hole that deep and not have any dirt piled up around the outside of the hole? Evidently, from the empty water bottles and sandwich wrapper at his feet, he just man-handled the post and beat it down into the ground.
Has anyone contacted this Dwaine Scott from NBC news (read under closeup of the one pix photo shopped with clouds in background) to actually verify this guy claiming he is a medic?

As phony as this guy is, he’s still done more to memorialize the fallen in Chattanooga than the president has.

I’m genuinely curious as to what the SOP should be for any loss of life like this. Should he make a statement? Should he order the flags to fly at half-staff? Attend the memorial? Order an airstrike?
When in doubt, always go for the airstrike.
Yes. And he should offer comfort to the survivors. Since he is incapable of doing that perhaps it is best that he just stay away.
To my knowledge, he did make a statement. The half-staff thing is a definite miscue. I don’t think the memorial has happened yet. As Jonn said, maybe an airstrike is pending. It’s always a safe bet in this 24-hour news cycle.
