Gun trafficking legislation in the Senate
Dave sends us a link to The Hill about more gun control measures being passed around in the Senate by Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Mark Kirk (R-IL). The three claim that, in the rush to “do something” since the shootings in South Carolina last month, their idea fits the bill;
The bill would make it illegal to buy two or more guns if the buyer knows, or suspects, that it would be illegal for them to do so, as well as sell or transfer two or more guns if the seller knows, or has reason to be believe, that it would be illegal for the buyer to own a gun.
[…]
Kirk, at the time, pointed to an uptick in gun violence in Chicago, saying that “gun trafficking is allowing gangs and violence to flourish in Chicago.”
They sponsored a similar bill in 2013 that couldn’t break a filibuster in a Democrat-controlled Congress, it stands less chance in the current political climate. But, see, why not make it illegal to buy or sell one gun if you suspect the buyer can’t pass background checks? Why would it have to be about two guns? On top of that, how do they plan to enforce the law? Are they going to question every pair of fellows standing in a parking lot near a car with the trunk lid open?
More than likely, it would be enforced by federal agents trolling the internet to set up gun buyers and sellers in sting operations. But, the criminals could get away with it if they refuse to buy or sell more than one gun from their parking lot store front. I guess the big question is, since the three Senators are tying this to the Charleston murders, how would this new law have prevented that crime, or any crime for that matter? All it’s doing is creating another crime.
This is why we need to make Congress a part-time job. Cut their salaries and staffs appropriately and stop giving them time to sit around and think up useless legislation that will have absolutely no impact on anyone or anything. Rescinding the 17th Amendment probably wouldn’t hurt, either.
Category: Congress sucks
‘How would this new law have prevented that crime, or any crime for that matter?’
A – It wouldn’t.
B – Politicians obviously need brain transplants. That, or new batteries.
C – The Chattanooga shooter bought his guns legally, didn’t he?
D – This is one of those ‘band-aid’ things to make you feel good, while Mommy blows on it after she puts mercurichrome on it.
And almost all of these politicians made it through law school.
Can’t be that hard.
It isn’t. It’s a matter of persevering once you’re accepted–and acceptance letters come for all sorts of reasons having nothing to do with an LSAT score or undergrad GPA. The saying is that the first year they scare you to death; the second year they work you to death, and the third year they bore you to death. It is my belief that anyone with at least average intelligence and an above-average desire to achieve can make it through law school.
Bingo. Case in point, Birdbath and Obama both graduated law school. One of them even taught law while the other chased ambulances and crashed planes.
These pathetic , deluded, wasted pieces of human flesh are so STUPID they can’t help themselves…not even smart enough to look at the statistics where people armed and allowed to carry concealed….the crime rate has gone DOWN, as has the murder rate…recall these idiots…we don’t need 90% of the scum in our government! imo
In answer to C; he was only able to purchase them “legally” due to the failure of the FBI to do its due diligence and conduct the background check in a timely manner. So, yup this new law would fix that for sure…
y’know, the most recent info I saw was that the actual offense he was charged with was a misdemeanor – that would mean he really wasn’t disqualified under current law?
Let me get this straight…
They want to make it ILLEGAL for an ILLEGAL black market gun seller to ILLEGALLY sell an ILLEGAL gun to a criminal which knows it is ILLEGAL for them to own a gun.
So, they want to make a new law that does the same thing the other laws do, but want it passed because feels.
Tell me, Flagwaver, why haven’t you fallen down laughing yet?
I’m too busy weeping at what has become of my country.
scary, when you think that they are the ones that are in charge.
They are the “smart ones” that feel the need to look out for all of us ignorant ones.
I also noticed that they are all from places with the most extreme gun laws in the counrtry, but those laws don’t seem to be worth the paper they are printed on.
No law is worth the paper it’s printed on unless it is respected. Isn’t the very definition of a criminal is one who does not respect the law? If the liberal progressive rat bastard commies would only enforce some of the twenty thousand existing gun laws we would not need more stupid ones.
Oh, you mean like the person who refuses to enforce our immigration laws?
Amen to that, what good are laws when either they’re not enforced at all or the goblins get in front of some liberal or lazy “Let ’em loose Bruce” type of Judge or Prosecutor that gives them a slap on the wrist and sets them free?
Flagwaver, I’m absolutely going to borrow this when, inevitably, my two moron senators, Stabenow and Peters sign on as co-sponsors of this latest round of idiocy. I doubt they’ll read it, but at least I’ll have the pleasure of pissing off some Progressives who work in their offices.
Nice to know I’m not the one who got a headache reading the idiotic chickenshit these congresscritters crapped out. I seriously wonder if any of them even read the bill before submitting it. That these retards are in a position of authority in the US government is embarrassing.
There’s no ATF form 4443 for the purchaser to lie about being a prohibited person. [/sarc]
Libs will never stop trying to control guns or control every little thing about the lives of Americans.
At every level, government is completely out of control with even local bureaucrats putting more and more licenses, fees, inspections and other regulations in the way of the citizens at the personal level just because they can.
It’s not about gun control, it’s about control.
More and more Americans are taking their own self defense into account and purchasing guns, internet surveillance security systems and getting concealed carry licenses.
And THAT, my friends, terrifies lib morons to no end.
It’s a good thing too !!!
Snotnosed candyassed pus-nutted lollipop-up-the-ass liberals CAN’T STAND even the thought of peoe taking care of themselves, they’re all about making and keeping others dependent on them and the Government.
“Gun trafficking is one of the key drivers of gun violence in Chicago,” Durbin said, adding that the legislation “will crack down on illegal trafficking of guns and impose strict federal punishments on those who supply guns to criminals.”
I understand that twice while he was speaking those words, the crowd interrupted his remarks with uproarious laughter and that the MC asked the crowd to please hold their laughter until after the senator completed his address.
7 people were treated by paramedics for strained abdominal muscles, cause by laughing too long, too hard. Another 3 people were transported to Obamacare centers for treatment of hypoxia, they were laughing so hard they couldn’t catch their breath.
Wasn’t a math major here so that might explain my difficulty with the calculation on this one.
If it is illegal for customer A and/or entrepreneur B to transact a gun deal for a single gun, would not the same whatever makes the transaction for a single gun illegal also apply to a second, third, forth or six hundredth gun? Or are they trying to tell us that previously illegal single sales will now be OK and only be illegal when in multiples? Will 5 now be OK, but 2 is not?
Stupid doesn’t even begin to describe this sort of thing. Of course it does give them political cover with whatever constituency or donor might be favorably impressed with their effort to “do something,” anything.
If only you had left the word ‘legislation’ out of that headline, Jonn….
I can see how this helps. If the gangbanger can’t buy two illegal guns, but can only buy one, then said gangbanger can’t do the really cool “hold two guns sideways out in front of you” shooting stance and he’ll be ashamed to be seen out in public. Imagine, being able to hold only one gun sideways. Why, the shame of it. He’ll stay indoors, eat popcorn, and watch TV, thereby reducing gun crime.
At least, that’s how I think it’s supposed to work.
It’s hard to to hold two guns when using the “super modified gangsta grip”.
Uhm. Well. Iffin I understood the instructions on the vid, holding two guns plus some niblets is exactly what you were supposed to be doin with that super modified gangsta grip.
Okay, but what if you don’t have any junk to grab onto?
SPEW!!!
“The bill would make it illegal to buy two or more guns if the buyer knows, or suspects, that it would be illegal for them to do so, as well as sell or transfer two or more guns if the seller knows, or has reason to be believe, that it would be illegal for the buyer to own a gun.”
I laughed my head off when I keyed in on “if the buyer knows, or suspects, that it would be illegal for them to do so”. Roof KNEW it was illegal for him to buy one weapon, much less two or more.
This is a perfect example of a do nothing Congress at its most ludicrous
I see that among other things as further proof of why we CANNOT trust our Government to do what it says it will. What’s next, will asking proof of US Citizenship when someone is trying to purchase a firearm be labeled as “racist” or “Profiling” ? Let’s not forget the truckloads of existing laws that were broken during past shootings.
But can I buy ONE illegal gun at a time, twice?
Is it illegal to return a fired gun, one that, say, has been used to kill only once? If not, there’s a another idea that begs for legislation. We have all heard about buying items, never intending to keep them, using them, and then returning them where bought. Most of us recognize the wrongfulness of that, even if it is not illegal. I’m thinking that an otherwise qualified buyer who just happens to be an auxiliary member of a street gang could buy a gun, shoot someone with it, and then return it. There oughta be a law against this!
Can I rent two guns?
I do wish that some of you would occasionally post spew alerts. I do appreciate the crotch-grabbing video, however.
“politicians and diapers need to be changed often and for the same reason” – Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)
‘Nuff said!
Shall not be infringed = purchase limits on firearms
Thanks for clearing that up for us Libtards.
I have an idea for a new law. How about we pass a law making the FBI enforce the laws already on the books. That should solve the problem.
Exactly.
I’ll willingly surrender my weapons following the day all weapons are confiscated from ALL politicians and those charged with protecting them.
And NOT one day earlier!
So; basically what this comes down to is they want to implement a “double secret straw purchase” law? (h/t Animal House)
Can we fired these jackasses before they do any more damage?
