From the Road

| May 28, 2015

I’ve been on the road for a few days, and will be on the road and kinda busy for a few more.  Comm is a bit spotty.

I’ve posted an earlier photo from the trip in a previous article because it seemed apropos.  I thought I’d post this one today – mostly as a way to send a couple of DRC members my “best regards” (think of the Boy Scout Sign together with the phrase “read between the lines”).

Some TAH readers may know where this is.  It’s actually a pretty nice place to visit from time to time.

Nice little commissary and PX (mit Class VI) over at Sigsbee if you have the need. There’s also a bar right on the water…not sure if it is open now. You can watch them dropping divers at the Navy school from 130’s etc in the bay there. Enjoy! Often winter there in an RV.

Tip one up for me at the Green Parrot.

Stayed at the Truman Annex lodging last year. Walking distance to everything. Great time.

Have a hogfish sammich for me at the Hogfish Grill.

Was stationed down there in 1972 on the USS Quillback (SS424). Loved that place. Go out on the pier and watch for the green flash. I agree, the Green Parrot is the place to be. Turn and wave to the web cam! http://www.greenparrot.com/key-west-webcams/

I showed the pic to a couple of Navy guys. They highly recommend the Bourbon Street Pub and the 801 Bourbon Bar.

Go figure…Navy guys recommending the 801 club

It was still there last September

GDContractor

What about Turtle Kraals?

3E9

Yep, still there.

Watch out for the chickens. The conch sandwich is overrated.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel Rt 1 from mm 0 to it’s end in Houlton, ME. It’s an interesting drive and full of history and is pretty neat. Near the end you can sit at the lighthouse and watch the highest tide in the world.

US Route 1 does not end in Houlton, Maine….I-95 does. US route 1 continues north for another 200 miles to Fort Kent, Maine, where it officially ends.

Zero Ponsdorf

Was there this past News Years Eve.

Mrs. E and I were there not two weeks after you – thanks for leaving it so clean and beautiful for us!

Smitty

I do miss the south

Silentium Est Aureum

Not me. Don’t wanna go anywhere near there. I would like to visit Key West one day, though.

Anyone else see a buttstock, barrel, front sight, and muzzle break??

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Key West is a slice of Americana that everyone should see. Hippies and all, you will find more US Flags flying down there than in most middle American towns.

One of my favorite spots to visit, been there many times!

I am an unofficial part owner of the Green Parrot and an official Diplomat of the Conch Republic … my conch Repulic passport is renewed regularly in person and a certain CLASSIFIED location in Key West!

Great post!

Somebody doesn’t like the US1 sign because I counted 3 bullet holes in it.

Marie--Civilian

Wait!! My bad. Not bullet holes. 4 screw holes for mounting.
Sorry glasses were dirty.
