LTC Jason Amerine; whistleblower faces Army investigation

| May 27, 2015

Jason Amerine

Lieutenant Colonel Jason Amerine, a special forces officer who specializes in hostage negotiations helped Congressmen write an amendment that would address hostage recovery, according to Chris Lamonthe at the Washington Post;

It would require President Obama to appoint a specific existing federal official to oversee hostage tracking and recovery. Hunter credited Amerine with assisting his office in developing the legislation, which has since passed in the House.

“To get something like this done, it takes people within the Department of Defense, within the system, who … actually know what needs to get done,” Hunter said. “Lieutenant Colonel Jason Amerine has worked with my office now for about two years on this amendment, and he is someone that really cares. He’s been working hostage stuff with about every government agency that there is, and he played a big role in getting this to where it’s at now.”

You may have read about LTC Amerine’s exploits in the opening days of the war in Afghanistan in the book “The Only Thing Worth Dying For” by Eric Blehm. Anyway, he’s nearing his retirement, and the Army has launched an investigation into how he helped Congress write their amendment and what information he may have passed to them.

Amerine, who is involved in Defense Department hostage recovery efforts, said in his Facebook commentary that the FBI “formally complained to the Army about me reporting to Congress about their failed efforts” to recover Warren Weinstein, an aid worker who was accidentally killed in a U.S. drone strike near the Pakistani border earlier this year, and Caitlan Coleman, an American who was traveling in Afghanistan while pregnant when she was kidnapped in 2012.

[…]

Amerine declined an interview request, but his comments on Facebook provide a new wrinkle in his case. CNN reported in April that he was under investigation “over a purported unauthorized disclosure” to Hunter, but the officer had not addressed it himself.

The FBI did not respond to several requests for comment for this story.

Because that’s what important. Congress wants to write an amendment and they get their information from experts, not the politicians who want to control their sliver of power in Washington. So let’s threaten the experts’ careers over petty territorial issues. That’s how we got 9-11.

“Whistlebrower?” No!

Patriot – yes.

The FBI has become (not all, of course) a bunch of prissy-pants politicians.

And 98.9% of politicians suck!

Blaster

are you sure? Your numbers seem a bit low.

Blake! Haven’t seen you around lately – how are you doing?

C’mon Blaster…..you gotta give me a little wiggle room.

Why is this not a surprise?

What unauthorized disclosure did he make?

Or is that just another attempt by the clowndog news network to stir up trouble where there is really nothing?

Hondo

Virtually any disclosure that the man made to a member of Congress at their request would have been legally permissible. Members of Congress are in general cleared to receive any damn info they want, and background for the purpose of writing legislation is valid need-to-know regarding DoD expertise.

Based on what’s been published, IMO this guy stepped on someone’s toes or is about to embarrass them, and this is their attempt at revenge.

Ex-PH2

My thoughts, exactly, which means this doesn’t make any sense. Someone’s nose is definitely out of joint.

This has Valerie Jarret’s hands all over it.

NOTHING like this happens without her say so, just nothing. If any bit of legislation, even the tiniest, most common-sense idea, threatens the power of the administration she runs, she’s going to do everything in her power to squash it.

Jarret has a good thing going with president mom-jeans and his clown car administration. She wants him to have the power of a petty tyrant without having to answer to anybody.

I wish this officer well. He’s going to need it.

The Other Whitey

Given her widely known reputation as a vindictive hellbitch…

Silentium Est Aureum

Fucking DC. Political hacks and bureaucrats more interested in protecting their rice bowl than this country.

Makes me want to puke.

Got a feeling that this will turn out OK. No inside information, just the gut talking here.

One thing that the lefties and assorted other enemies of this country never factor into their methods is that not everyone is as corrupt as they are. There remain in this country a great many people who when subjected to close scrutiny don’t have embarrassing/illegal things in their backgrounds of any significance. Lots of folks never did the sorts of things the lefties do which they spend inordinate amounts of effort to keep hidden from view. The simple fact that we want our privacy does not indicate any wrongdoing – just a desire to not waste time on silly stuff.

98.9899% of politicians give the rest a bad name. I wonder what percentage of them aren’t self-centered snotnosed POS’s? The Feral Bureau of Indifference? Yeah, same-o, same-o, being used for political persecution like B. Hussein 0bama & Company have used the IRS to stifle those who dissent with dEAR Leader and his agenda.

I don’t get it. We have it drilled into our heads that communication to a Member of Congress is protected. Additionally, they should all have some level of clearance, especially those on certain committees. They can’t say that what Manning did was wrong because he didn’t use protected communication channels, only to turn around and say Amerine is wrong for using them.

David

Hostage recovery? I thought we ha a policy in place; trade captured high-value terrorists five to one for them.

Shades of Major Matthew Golsteyn.

This is about more than just territory. There is a very deep and corroding jealousy among the perfumed princes, both politicians and law enforcement, concerning real operators like Golsteyn and LTC Amerine. They will do anything to take one down, particularly if one of them makes the princes look bad in any way. I have seen it personally, it was done to a manager of mine. He was a Ranger, and his boss hated him for it. My manager was too good to fire, but his boss did everything he could think of to make his life miserable. If it can happen at that low of level, I have no doubt it happens at the federal level — and at that level, they can and will bring the pain, just because they can.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Famous, But Incompetent looks to be striking again.

They sure do some great work, but the entire organization is all too susceptible to political pressure resulting in appearing as nothing more than an attack dog for whatever party currently rules the roost.

There’s a couple of great books out that cover how the territorial pissing contests among those charged with inter-agency cooperation result in bad guys missed or worse bad guys not stopped. It remains to be seen if that can eventually be overcome or if national level law enforcement will remain beholden to the concerns of the “perfumed princes” as Pinto calls them…

What? Senior management in the FBI jealous? Say it ain’t so…f’ng jerks.

MustangCryppie

LTC, get a high powered lawyer and go for the throat. They’ll cave.

jjak

Hostage negotiator? Retiring LTC? Experience advising legislation writing?

Sounds like he should run for Congress…

A negarious plot is at work here.

If you wanted to clamp down on someone who knows things that could damage your perceived status, you’d do whatever you could to make him/her look as bad as possible. Or have you all forgotten Watergate?

I was LTC Amerine’s junior Commo SGT on ODA 572 before 9/11. I never, ever had any reason to question or doubt his integrity or loyalty. Frankly, it makes my blood boil to learn that he’s being investigated for something that, knowing him, probably involved doing the right thing but stepping on some politically connected bureaucrat’s toes in the process. After I left the military, I worked under contract for the Federal Protective Service both at the FBI HQ in Phoenix and at the US Attorney’s Office here in Phoenix. My opinion of the FBI and its agents was greatly diminished as a result of this experience. Lawyers and Accountants with guns, eager to screw people over in order to enhance their own careers. That’s what I witnessed…
