But I’m Feeling MUCH Better Now

| March 20, 2015

West Virginia almost became a safer place to live today.  Our state legislators had passed a bill with large majorities clearing the way for our citizens to freely carry concealed weapons. There were a few reasonable restrictions, but, in general, no longer were special permits and/or fees required. The legislative session ended and the bill went to the Governors desk.

And Then… This afternoon the Governor vetoed the bill.

The nature of the process is that it won’t be up for a vote again until the next legislative session – practically speaking  that means next year.

Curiously, West Virgina is already an open-carry state. One could carry a side arm in a holster, BUT you need a special permit  to wear a coat that might cover the thing.

Really! It is THAT simple folks.  Not simply carrying a weapon – that’s okay… but throw on a coat to be warm, or a raincoat to be dry, and VIOLA yer a criminal.

I know it is just politics as usual. Still, I’ve been trying to figure out whether to giggle at the absurdity of this situation or just sit and mumble curses in the general direction of Charleston.

Well that just pretty much sucks. And makes little to no sense.

Well, you know the name of the scum sucking communist governor…remember that next election!!

ZP – CCW holders have far and away the lowest crime rate – much lower than cops and the general population. So that can’t be the reason. Unless you make a hobby out of it, CCW holders are really hard to spot so that can’t be it. It has to be a political decision – if he passes the bill, his base won’t support him in the next election. Nothing else makes any sense. Does his base really support that position? They used to in Detroit but not so much any more.

BTW, I live in Michigan and the governor recently signed a bill making us a “shall issue” state. We use to have discretionary “gun boards” in each county and they are now gone. This is all going in the right direction even if it is too slow.

I believe there are holsters that allow a handgun to be worn on the thigh. I cannot speak with authority on WV law. However, this might seem like a legal workaround to allow open carry while wearing a coat.

Granny can make a few bucks altering your Carhart coat with properly placed and sized holes. when not carrying, the removed material zips back in. (one option, a printed glock or colt on the panel)

Would a see-through panel “unconceal” the weapon??

Does WV have the recall? Your governor needs a new title, like Ex or late. He needs to know that his political career is over and that he will never attain another elected office. Tell him that no one will ever vote for someone of his proven level of stupidity, much less donate to his campaign coffers.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to the WV Governor’s political party?

This sounds like pure politics to me.

The part about a coat long enough to cover any sidearm you’re carrying? Fine. Wear the gun like John Wayne would, where everyone can see it.

Yuppies are afraid of their own skin. Those are the only people you’ll really frighten.

Eal Ray Tomblin is the governor. He was 17 years in the state legislature and became gov when Manchin jumped to DC. Tomblin is barred from re-election as gov (term limits) and his term expires next year. So, he doesn’t have to give a shit and evidently doesn’t. His wife is also on the public dole. She heads up a community college. The good news is that there is an override available. The bad news is that time is not our friend. So, it’s next year.
