Sunday Silly – NOT Quite

| March 8, 2015

I’ve been scanning my usual news sources when I can much of the weekend. Can’t seem to find stuff that makes me smile.

Long aside: Snow storm knocked out our satellite internet AND we were without power for a time. Even didn’t have DirecTV, etc. My back-up generator did the self test on Wednesday just fine, but decided NOT to run when our power failed. Did get it running, and the snow on the dishes slid off, etc. We do have battery powered laptops and a cell based Hotspot, but we only used those for weather and tracking power outages. A point worthy of note only because I reckon those events soured my attitude some.

Subsequent to all that I still haven’t been able find much that makes me grin out there in the rest of the world. So I’m gonna ask YOU lot for links to the silly I know is out there.

The only rule is that it has to be safe for work. Kinky does NOT always equal silly.

Should add also, that the snow is melting, and our world is just fine. Living on a remote ridge in WV, even with yer own gas well, does have some downsides at times .

Check the second article I posted here today, ZP. It may not make you smile, and might actually make you tear up a bit.

But I believe you’ll also feel better after reading it.

No link, but a rather funny true story.

Seems there have been a lot of power losses in the past week or so due to weather concerns. We found out the hard way that the batteries on generators do go out, and it is apparently a rule that they must go out late at night during extreme weather.

The good news is that a neighbor with a generator which has been installed but not connected had a battery that fit our generator. So, the neighborhood is out behind our house at 11pm in foul weather swapping out the batteries thanks to the kindness of the guy whose generator wasn’t powering his house.

Now, you might wonder what’s so funny about a bunch of old folks out playing in the snow in the middle of the night, other than the obviously hilarious mental image that alone might invoke. The folks around here all applaud our generator, and want it up and running because since we installed it, there has not been an outage for more than a few hours.

Including this past week.

Not silly but sound advice. Don’t eat any yellow snow.

Well, since you brought up the subject:

Government powerpoint on how to deal with veterans.
It basically assumes that we are all angry and unstable.

You’ll either laugh or be pissed that this is an actual thing, not made up.

This same spiel is used in all customer relations training. Of course it looks to the ugly side, it has to be faced. Not that I am excusing the VA for their incompetence!

I ran my own auto repair business for quite a while, and I definitely know about “irate” people. And, yes, being able to remain calm, cool, and collected when you want to lash back out takes some practice. “of course it looks to the ugly side, it has to be faced” —– Yes, there are irate individuals. Some have felt they were shafted by the system, and I have met some that are not happy unless they can make someone else miserable. I have recently been dealing with the DMV in 4 different states about a driver license issue, and yep, the runaround I have gotten has gotten me to the point that I just want to lash out at anyone and everyone for any reason. It took a lot on my part today, but if I bite my tongue, have a smile in my voice, and sincerely thank the “press 1 for English” person that is speaking broken English in a nearly indecipherable dialect and accent, for their help, I feel that it does good for me. What keeps me calm, cool, and collected: 1. The person on the other end of the phoneline is a person, although I do get a bit miffed if the idiot cant understand English. 2. The person on the other end has to deal with being cussed out, threatened, belittled, and bereated on a daily basis. It takes me so little to say “thank you, you have been a great help” even if they really weren’t. When your file comes up on that desk, it just might stir a memory and get pushed a little closer to the front of the line. 3. At my age, I have learned 2 things: Don’t sweat the small stuff and it’s ALL small stuff. 4. And this one is most important to me: If something were to happen to me in the very near future, do I really want the last memory of me to be as a stark raving mad lunatic ranting obscenities to a person who really had no direct impact on my issue?… Read more »
