Thursday morning feel good story
I couldn’t find any new stories for you, but maybe this one will suffice. Last July, the story of 80-year-old Thomas Greer came across my desk and I held off on it. In California, Greer was beaten by a woman and a man who forced him at gun point to open his safe and give them about $5000 from it.
As they were escaping, Mr. Greer got his own gun and shot Andrea Miller in the back twice even though she begged him not to shoot, telling him that she was pregnant (she wasn’t). Mr Greer was arrested, but just last month, the prosecutor said;
Greer, who was robbed on two other occasions, “held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury,” wrote Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Janet Moore, explaining the office’s decision not to charge him.
“Greer exercised his legal and legitimate right of self-defense when he shot and killed Andrea Miller,” Moore wrote.
He wasn’t prosecuted. Miller’s accomplices, Gus Adams and his mother, the getaway driver, were captured and charged with her murder. So that’s good news, right?

In Kalifornication? Really? Someone had a brain fart of common sense? There may be hope yet for the Now-Tarnished-Brass-Formerly-Golden-State.
And, this outbreak of common sense took place in LA County?
Besides, Mr Greer was 80 years old. What is the state gonna give him? A “life” sentence?
And if he has the cojones to shoot a perp, in the state of Kalifornication, I doubt that the state is going to make him tremble in fear.
B Woodman…Roger that! I mean think about it, he’s 80 and he took one off the streets permanently and 2 for hopefully many years. That’s ratio is headed in the correct direction.
That’s great news, and one of the better things about our justice system. Commit a crime that results in an accomplice’s death and you are charged with murder. Assist the criminal in any way at the scene and you are an accomplice, and hence as guilty as the primary offender (some ignorant people probably don’t see the harm in sitting in a car and driving off since they aren’t committing the actual burglary). Be complicit in a crime and you are considered an accessory.
That’s pretty simply put and doesn’t account for all legal situations, but the basic premise is don’t do dumb stuff or help dumb people do dumb stuff. I bet Mom didn’t figure on a murder rap.
Good. It is even better he shot her as she begged for her life. when they were beating the shit out of him and breaking his collarbone they probably didn’t care if they beat him to death or not. Now that guy can live the rest of his life knowing he got her killed and she won’t be able to reproduce with him and put more scumbags on the earth. It is a very touching story, with an excellent ending.
It amazes me that a DA anywhere would even consider charging the victim.
Only in California. Or Maryland. Or New York, Massachusetts…
I just wonder if the guy will get pregnant in the prison pounding party…
Anything that reinforces to criminals that they have made a poor career choice gets my vote
