Tammy Mason, SEAL wife loots SEAL Fund

| February 3, 2015

Tammy Mason

Tammy Mason, a SEAL’s wife and an employee of the Navy SEAL Foundation was sentenced for embezzling funds from the foundation according to Pilot Online;

Prosecutors say she used the money for lavish personal expenses, including a vacation in Lake Tahoe, chartering a private jet, hiring a personal trainer, hotel stays and a family trip to Boston, which included first-class airfare, a limousine service and tickets to a Red Sox game.

Circuit Judge Les Lilley told Mason her actions were “bold and brazen” and demanded a stiffer punishment than state sentencing guidelines, which recommended probation and no prison time.

She got 18 months in prison for her escapades that cost the charity 120,000 – 170, 000.

I’m sure that the headline will be corrected in the future to say “Ex-Wife”.

GDContractor

Hopefully. I just read the article. She benefited from the fund as it payed some medical expenses during her difficult pregnancy. Then later, she started working for the charity. She stole from it while her husband was deployed. The article says the family is committed to paying back all the money. Her form of an apology was “I am extremely sorry for what has happened.” I detect a lack of ownership. Why am I not surprised.

Oldav8or

“I am extremely sorry for what has happened’ = “I am extremely sorry that I got caught!”

Yup.

Steve

That all-too-familiar suspicious use of the passive voice.

e.g. “…the decision was made to…”
“…I was told to…”

etc etc

GDContractor

BTW this all happened around Little Creek, VA. I wonder if Mrs. Shipley had an opportunity to “counsel” the defendant prior to her incarceration. If so, I’d like to see the video.

Eden

Now that would be worth watching!

Poohbah, Lord High Everything Else

Can’t we say “Dependapottamus” any more?

Warrior2id

So glad to see a judge do the right thing. I’m a PO now days and first time probation only cases should only be used for misdemeanors not felonies and that much proven to have been stolen is surely a felony in all US states and territories.

DefendUSA

Good thing I don’t live 2 minutes from Oceana anymore, because I would open up a COW on her. That is unacceptable in every single way imaginable. WTF is wrong with people? I will never get it.

Ex-PH2

Ditto.

I worked in Accounts Receivable. Every time I had to take a deposit to the bank, I was as paranoid as you can get.

What if I dropped something on the way? EEEEEEEEKKK!

Instinct

‘WTF is wrong with people?’

They are greedy, lazy, and stupid, DefendUSA. Just like the Dutch Rudder Gang – perfect example of all of the above.

Moe

This really upsets me. People who are this greedy make it very difficult for the legitimate charities that really help the vets. This particular charity probably did some good when it was founded but because this person evidently was in charge without any oversight she was able to destroy it just because she wanted to be a rich big shot. Her sentence sounds really light to me.

What no Bernarth copy and paste comments yet? I thought those Ranger/Recon/Spetsnaz/Seals were supposed to be faster than the speed of light. Your slippin man…

B Woodman

If you’re able, go look at the top of the posting, at the FaceBook responses. “He’s” there, and has made his presence known. With appropriate rebuttals.

This.

That.

Great point you hit the nail on the head

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Stealing from charities is the most reprehensible thing one can do when embezzling funds…stealing from families in crisis is especially disgusting.

SEALS and their wives stealing from each other making the news, what the hell is going on today?

Sparks

Veritas Omnia Vincit…I too am at a lose to understand why people would steal from their own. Especially their own in need. Worse than a barracks thief and less respect from me than a convenience store or home invasion robber. Those are part of the bottom of my list of the crap human scum alive who don’t need to be. The judge said “her actions were “bold and brazen”. I think I would have defined her actions differently but I guess cussing her out and calling her vulgar names in open court is frowned upon.

Common Sense

I’m not surprised. When my kids were playing sports, we had several cases of parents stealing from the organizations. Utterly humiliating for their kids who still had to go to school with the other kids. We also had a football coach steal from his own team. Weak individuals for sure.

Then we had the “Cool Mom” who gave drugs to and had sex with some of her son’s football teammates. Her daughter was still in class with all the guys poor thing.

OWB

VOV: She did this on her own, while her husband was deployed. That must have been a very interesting conversation when he came home to discover what she had done.

fang

I’m sure they’ll make a movie about it

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Ah … this person is well know and the chatter has been kept in the box now for better part of a year!

I am fairly close to senior members of this OUTSTANDING charity we knew this was coming.

She is a SPECIAL type of thief!

Skippy

So is she married or related to the former Seal running the get rich quik racket

NHSparky

No doubt Bernath is wearing another Trident to “honor” her.

Shitbags.

MustangCryppie

She better do some fast apologizing. I can’t imagine messing with such a community. She will reap the whirlwind if she doesn’t get her head out of her ass.

David

that is one scary looking cross-eyed witch… typical Red Sox fan.

Pinto Nag

Something seriously wrong with her…and I’m guessing it’s Meth.

David

dunno, I’m married to a Red Sox fan…. just sayin’

lightgrunt

Don’t you all recognize her? The article has an error… she isn’t just the wife of a SEAL. She IS a SEAL! Remember the movie G.I. Jane? This is that SEAL.

Boy oh boy, did she ever get the wrong judge (from her perspective.) It’s not often that a theft (nonviolent crime) conviction lands a person in prison if, as I am guessing is true in her case, the person has no priors. The state guidelines called for no time at all and she got 1 ½ years. By the way, it is reported that most of the money has been repaid. Judge Lilley was the target of a murder solicitation by an inmate, altogether unrelated to this case. Get this. The prosecutor struck a deal, a plea bargain, with some defendant charged with attempted bank robbery. The deal was subject to the judge’s approval and he said no, nyet, ain’t happening. Instead, he punched buddy boy’s ticket to the Big House. The fellow didn’t take it well and tried to get someone to kill the judge. In another case, a woman was convicted of shooting her husband and the state guidelines called for her to get 5 yrs and 11 mos. Lilley awarded her 15. He gave another fellow 55 years for sexual assault. Tough judge. I wish he’d relocate to my neck of the woods.

He sounds like the kind of Judge we need A LOT MORE OF.

When she appears in court she will state that she has PTSD caught from her husband and other SEALs. Then she will claim to know which SEAL killed OBL and attempt a book deal.

Medical bills associated with a difficult pregnancy? If the husband is active duty, then it is covered under Tricare.

Something doesn’t add up.
