HR 378; Responsible Body Armor Possession Act
Flagwaver alerts us to the introduction of House Resolution 378, entitled the “Responsible Body Armor Possession Act” which makes possession of “enhanced” body armor that “the ballistic resistance of which meets or exceeds the ballistic performance of Type III armor” punishable by less than ten years imprisonment and a fine. Type III armor provides protection from 9mm Full Metal Jacketed bullets and .44 Magnum Semi-jacketed hollow point bullets that leave the muzzle of a weapon at about 1400 feet per second.
The bill was introduced by Congressman Mike Honda, a California Democrat, of course. It’s supported by Robin Kelly, Illinois Democrat, Florida Democrat and impeached judge Alcee Hastings and Illinois Democrat Danny Davis.
I have to wonder why a group of Democrat Congressmen are so askeered of private citizens who can protect themselves from bullets that they want to attach a 10-year prison sentence to the possession of said body armor. They really want to take our guns from us and then they want to compound the public’s paranoia by making the possession of bullet-proof vests illegal, too.
I don’t know how possessing body armor that protects people from certain bullets is “irresponsible” any-damn-way.
Category: Congress sucks
I guess the criminal’s will be lining to turn in their body armor and firearms asap.
This bill is still in committee. If it doesn’t die in committee, it will eventually die. This is a violation of the second amendment right here, even though the vests are not Arms, but in the broader sense of the term Arms back when the Bill of Rights was written and ratified, it is.
This is some crazy shit. Most states have laws restricting the sale of vests to those citizens who have not been convicted of a violent crime. Guess who else has such a restriction? Right you are: the Federal government. This cockamamie bill would make it a crime for a law-abiding citizen to purchase or to possess one and it sells the attempt by exempting those purchases made before the law’s effective date. It’s stupid. I get that some criminals will wear vests to protect themselves from police bullets but, golly, do you think that a crim will obey this law? Sure. Don’t they always? Friggin idiots.
Is it just me? It seems that Democrats aren’t happy unless they’re trying to ban something for no particular reason.
I guess I shouldn’t point out to the libtards that $50 worth of ceramic bathroom tile from Home Depot, $30 worth of fabric from a yardage store, and a little bit of patience will give me a homemade vest that will defeat most pistol rounds. It won’t be nearly as light or comfortable as the ones they want to ban, but it will work. So what now? Are they going to ban textiles and bathroom remodeling as well?
Telephone books will do…well, I saw it on an episode of “Burn Notice”.
That’s only when used as car armor. The books just further decelerate the round after it passes through the metal of the car shell.
btw, I love that show… can you tell?
Sounds like a good one for Mythbusters: “will bathroom ceramic tiles and telephone books stop most pistol rounds?”
Personally, I would think that the bathroom tiles would shatter on the first hit and be totally ineffective.
I thought so too, until me and a buddy of mine used some construction demo waste as target stands one day. Crappy 1/4inch ceramic tiles glued (no mortar, cement, hardyboard, or nothing) to a sheet of 5/8″ plywood shocked the hell out of us. 9mm stopped cold by the tile. .45ACP penetrated about 3/8inch into the wood.
The tile did shatter, but most of it stayed in place and it soaked up almost all of the energy of the incoming pistol rounds. Of course 5.56, .30-06, .308, and 7.62×39 still punched right through like it was paper, no surprises there. Still, it got me thinking. I’ve experimented from time to time with similar results. Besides, isn’t Chobham armor ceramic-based (albeit much higher quality than what’s available to Joe Blow at the hardware store)?
I think these democrats believe that citizens should not be able to protect themselves from criminals, because that’s governments job. And God forbid the need to possibly protect ourselves from a rogue government, should that occur. Thinking 2nd amendment here. A good citizen will practice marksmanship to a level necessary to overcome his adversary. Makes ya wonder whats up with all the police departments gearing up with excess military vehicles and equipment. Do the local police really feel that intimidated that they need full military equipment and field training to hand out speeding tickets, and investigate few robberies. Most communities in America are pretty quiet. Some of the bigger cities maybe, because of the volume and intensity of the criminals. Vote these clowns out of office.
“And God forbid the need to possibly protect ourselves from a rogue government, should that occur.”
It hasn’t already?
My humor is dry, but I was trying to be funny with that statement!
NEVER trust politicians that don’t trust their constituents. Anyone wanna bet they’d be allowed to possess said body armor and keep their armed bodyguards if that was passed? When was the last time anyone saw criminals lining up to turn THEIR guns in as soon as a new gun law was passed?
“Politicians are like diapers. They need to be changed often, and for the same reason.”. – Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)
If this bill were to pass, yes critters would be exempt. The law will not apply to the government.
“NEVER trust politicians that don’t trust their constituents”
WORD!
Holy Crapola they want to take our Guns and now body armor. I’m in shock being there hate for law enforcement I thought they would be trying to push for free body armor along with the free phones they give away ….. Opps that we tax payers pay for.
So the body armor plates the Army let me keep after my tour in Afghanistan is going to become illegal if this passes? WTF
No, the law would apply only to private citizens.
Everybody becomes a private citizen eventually.
No because it’d be grandfathered in but I don’t know how you would of would nor prove it
Man, oh man…The hit parade just keeps rolling in! Welp, its a good thing this crop of democrats is protecting us from us, I reckon. Maybe I need to step up refresh training a whole lot more and then some. One thing I did take into consideration a few ago is, bad boys could be wearing vests and decided to practice as much as I possibly can on making shots that will ’em down for the count elsewhere on the targets.
insert will “put” em down
Boys and girls, remember, head and hips, hips and head.”
Sounds like Congressman Honda is looking for a chink in the armor of the Second Amendment.
(Sorry, couldn’t help myself).
The bill “grandfathers” body armor owned before the bill passes, so maybe they’re just creating a buying frenzy for a constituent like Obama did with guns.
ISIS repellent fashion, for the serious sportsman.

Hmmm. Well, guess I have to get rid of the vest I used as a cop…NOT!
The Democrats will not be happy until we are all slaves … and they, our compassionate Masters.
Seems like my “Second Chance Vest” is a good investment. Screw you Democrats, every last one of you, and the dopes that you vote for.
Hmm, another panic. Panic buying. Could there be a connection to a firm that sells armor?
I watch too many TV movies….
On a more practical note:
Whenever these pinheads carry on about “body armor” or “armor piercing bullets”, they educate the crooks that some people, like maybe cops, may be wearing concealed armor. The crooks, and some of them are quite cunning, then adjust their aim upwards.
Teaching hoodlums to go for head shots is not helping. I have family, friends, and associates in law enforcement. STFU
Not to be picky, but if they’re talking about NIJ body armor ratings, Level III is rated for rifle calibers. Level IIIa is the highest rated handgun armor. Most departments issue level IIa or II armor because when you wear it day in and day out comfort becomes an issue, especially in really hot climates. I still have 3 of my vests from my police days, all are level II.
I’m glad to see this. It must mean that they’ve solved all the problems of poverty, poor education, transportation, energy production, infrastructure of different sorts, drugs, violent crime…you get the idea.
What a total waste of oxygen and taxpayers’ dollars.
