Reed Pacheco; phony 160th SOAR in the Mog
The folks at Guardian of Valor send us their tireless research on this Reed Pacheco, Junior fellow. He was the CEO of the vet charity organization Warrior Pointe (that’s their Facebook link, their link on the web is down at the moment) until he started making claims about being a crew chief in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) during Operation Gothic Serpent in October 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia during the famous “Black Hawk Down” incident.
Members of the 160th SOAR doubted his service there and they could find no record of him ever being assigned to the unit, so they sent the information off to Bulldog and his crew. Here’s a screenshot of some of his claims;
And a newspaper article in the Idaho Statesman;
But here’s the truth;
He was in the National Guard during our Somalia operations and went into the Active Duty Army the following month. His only service overseas was a trip to Korea. he was discharged from the Army as a PFC, not as a staff sergeant as he had claimed. According to Bulldog, Reed was discharged for “serious offenses”.
Well, after Bulldog and the crew danced with Pacheco yesterday, as well as the folks at Warrior Pointe, Reed finally apologized.
They tried to excuse Pacheco’s behavior by claiming that it wasn’t “Stolen Valor”, that stolen valor is just what the US Code defines as stolen valor. My response is this; stolen valor is what we say it is. This business is about the Truth and the Supreme Court said that the Truth didn’t need handcuffs and badges for enforcement, it only needed citizens willing to speak the Truth. Justice Kennedy wrote in US v. Alvarez “The response to the unreasoned is the rational; to the uninformed, the enlightened; to the straight-out lie, the simple truth….Society has the right and civic duty to engage in open, dynamic, rational discourse.” We don’t need no stinkin’ U.S.C.
The GoV folks have a ton more about this case at their link including a telephonic admission from Pacheco.

A mistake is when you pour too much milk in your coffee.
A mistake is when you fail to signal a left turn.
A mistake is when you forget to pick up your wife at work…..
Stolen Valor is a fictional story created to make one look and feel more important.
A mistake is when a scumbag like this guy, Pacheco, and others like him are born.
What is it that people do not understand about the difference in being sorry and making amends. Ok, so he is sorry that he got caught. Is he going to repay the VA for breathing their air while he was seeking counseling? Nah, probably now has elevated PTSD due to the outing and will just consume more of their resources. He is a bottom feeder.
It is a shame that anyone can or does make a clame to take such a tragic loss of any military unit and make it their own. Especially to be a part of one of the most dedicated and prestige unit such as ours. He may say he’s sorry or apologizes for his accusations. That is only because he got caught, he is not sorry nor does he have PTSD of any sort. Using other people misfortune, (military or not) is disgraceful to say the least. But if he wants to clame that now, then I know at least a few hundred REAL NightStalkers to include myself who can give him a few school lessons that will MAKE him have ALL the symptoms of REALY having PTSD and never be the same. NSDQ. To ALL my brothers in arms, God bless and God speed. Be safe.
Is he sorry for what he did, no, he is sorry he got caught, dude is a total scumbag,It looks like he got kicked out for what? doing a ton of drugs. He needs a really good ass kicking, that is the only thing that will make these cunts stop. Makes me sick, I’m just waiting to see all of the phony snipers that had ‘overwatch’ duty in OIF.
Dude said he was sorry for lying????
WTF? Didn’t someone give him the poser apology script? DUDE…. you are “sorry for allowing misinformation to propagate” and you apologize for “misinformation being misunderstood”, etc. Also sprinkle in a few typos, misspell a few words, use homonyms out of context. Come on man, it’s like you’re not even trying.
If you are going to go to the trouble of embellishing your military career and wade through the blood of those injured and dead for a little of your own personal notoriety, THE LEAST you could do is apologize like a lying scum sucking poser. Try again?
All of the above are true.
Did he lie? – Yes.
Is he a poseur? – Yes.
Is he a scumbag? – Yes.
Did he crack the shits and chuck a giant wobbly to dodge his comeuppance or make some retarded excuse to try and mitigate his behaviour? – No.
Dude, you’re a knobjockey. But your case is closed now forever – unless you do it again. Lying about your service history was a bad choice. Delivering an unqualified apology was a good one.
Before the written apology he tried to blame the media for blowing it out of proportion. I know Reed personally and he is only sorry that he was caught.
You know, I have had it with all these military veteran based charities. Like if I know of a fellow “Battle Buddie” that needs any help, I will do what I can to help them directly. Even if that means giving them the cash and/or support they need. Fuck these organizations from the WWP to this Podunk charity, FUCK THEM ALL.
There are so many ways to spot the fakes from the real ones that I would not have to file a FIOA on the individual that needs help.
Semper Fi to that, sad to say but I will never give another cent to these kind of Vet groups,I’m willing to bet that most of the groups are run by these types of shit heads.
Well, just send it to me. I will be happy to accept it !!!
Hey battle,
Could you help me out and buy me nice boat? I really need it so that a veteran I know can bowfish more.
Word.
Well, at least he did come clean, apologize and step down. That’s a whole lot more than anyone else lately has had the courage to do.
How did he have “friends die in his arms” when he was supposedly giving close air support?
This guy is fucking retarded to the max.
BTW … the Jesus I know would have kicked this pussy around the block while he begged for mercy!
As a former Night Stalker and member of that deployed unit. Who was the NCOIC, of three of my unit mates funnerals.You cockpit sucking low life no account scumbag! Fucking people like you are the reason we stayed out of the lime light for years untill we were made famous. Now everyone wants the recognition without having paid the price! The NSA, AND NOT TALKING NO SUCH AGENCY, should burn you whole operation in the news!
Check out that phone conversation on GoV with Reed…I think he even lied to bulldog if that was him. Claiming he saw someone in Korea die in his arms? Can he stop lying at least once?
Has anyone at the Idaho Statesman printed a correction/retraction? Anyone contact Ms. Webb?
“Apologize” for one lie by telling two more.
What a fucktard.
It is because of shitscrews like pacheco that I (and I’m sure many many other vets) refuse to be involved in any way shape or form with ANY veterans assistance organizations of this type. Way to go, poser douchebags…
Word.
Exactly.
Totally agree with you.
“My response is this; stolen valor is what we say it is.” You are damn tooting. I’m with you 100% on that. If push came to shove, it could be easily established that the gov’t co-opted the term. More importantly, we are not beholden to the govt’s legal definition of Stolen Valor and do not require a court decision to conclude that someone is a valor thief.
Well he’s right about one thing; this is never going away. Eat shit ass monkey
DIPSHIT
Poncho clearly got 106th MED Unit mixed up with 160th SOAR …
Otherwise totally LEGIT!
“Greed” Pacheco sucks ass.
And other things, I imagine.
