Fox News‘ Catherine Herridge reports that an Air Force father told authorities that, after he posted photos of action over Iraq to his social media, that members of ISIS tracked him down and targeted his son for harassment;

The counterterrorism source said the incident is in line with the recent threat assessment from the Army’s Threat Integration Center that was released in late September. The bulletin warned Army commands worldwide that servicemembers should limit the number of people with access to their social media profiles after ISIS called on its supporters to use the Yellow Pages and Facebook to track down addresses.

While there was no independent intelligence to corroborate the warning in the Army bulletin, the source said “ISIS wanted to find these guys, and inspire someone to go after these guys.”

Many of us here have seen how online terrorists of the non-ISIS variety, with the same mental acuity, have been able to track us and our families. In fact, NHSparky, who sent us the link to the Fox story, has been a victim of just that type of terrorist harassment from our Great Northwest and the Great Southeast. So, be careful what you active duty types post on the social media sites.

Mine has been locked down for quite some time, since I was targetted for harrasment by SlRpY tHe ThUndERiNg HeMorRHoid.
Facebook allows you to lock down your profile so that no one can see any of your information beyond your “Cover Photo”. Rest of it you can pretty well restrict, even among friends who can see what.

And never assume that even if someone pretends to be a hypersensitive butthurt pussy, they won’t try the very shit of which they accuse you.

Although I’m not eager to put it to the test, I know I try to be prepared for exactly that kind of shit to go down.

PavePusher

This is one of several reasons we have a Second Amendment…. except, of course, that it apparently doesn’t apply to people who have to enter military bases…..

Fuck.

Old Trooper

Well, that didn’t take long.

I have noticed some “friend” requests on fb that I have ignored and I also noticed some unusual characters asking to join a fb group I’m an administrator of. They can wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which fills up first, but if I don’t get confirmation from another member of the group, that they sent them there, they ain’t getting in.

Speaking of fakers and cyber security, for anyone who hasn’t seen the ‘Robin Sage’ experiment (digital stuff, not the SF exercise), here’s one brief write-up:

http://science.dodlive.mil/2010/07/21/the-dangers-of-friending-strangers-the-robin-sage-experiment/

Plenty of easily-identifiable red flags, but they were ignored even by people at places like the NSA, who should know better. .

Another article, below, says that towards the end of the experiment, the fake persona was attracting the interest of overseas Arabs for access to the military stuff.

Ex-PH2

This is why I don’t do social media.

GDContractor

The evil genius in me wants to set up a few introductions. Not with any real AD or real veterans…if ya know what I mean.

2/17 Air Cav

There is a positive aspect to this. When the posers see that their claims are making them targets of the Religion of Peace, well, you can figure out the rest.

Cowpill

Personally I welcome the fact they want to try and “Target” me as being a veteran. I say bring it, and a lunch because it is going to be a very long day. I refuse to be intimidated by these animals. Besides all my ammo is dunked in pig fat and the females in my family are excellent shooters. I just hope the peaceniks get targeted also so they can fully experience the “Religion of peace”.

A Proud Infidel®™

Not only does every hollowpoint round I have loaded in my Concealed firearm have bacon fat in its tip, I’ve also begun to use “Silver Bullet Gun Oil” which is made with 13% rendered pig fat! Those flea-and-lice-infested inbred goat molesters can BRING IT ON! When Stateside, I’m not hampered by the ROE’s that I was overseas, and I’ll be the nastiest SOB that I can while I send them to hell.

“Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for I AM THE MEANEST SOB IN THE VALLEY”!

Joe Williams

No I am the meanest period. Lots of feral hogs around my place . Some of men will be wrapped in HOG’S HIDE. Joe

A Proud Infidel®™

You think like I do! I like to snack on fried pork skins, something I would crush a piece of and sprinkle on the head of one of those inbreds right after I “pacified” the damn thing!! There are a fair share of feral hogs in my neck of the woods, and I’d throw a quantity of hog blood on one of those damn things as well!

JS LTC

Joe you are close but if you feed them to the feral hogs they eventually become pig sh** I would think that would be better that wrapped in a hogs hide

IntelPOG

Wowwee! You guys are TOUGH!

RangerX

IMLTHO, Facebook IS a form of cyber-terrorism.

Valerie

Social media is far more trouble than it is worth.

David

young lady, you have hit the nail on the head. Like artificial stupidity, I am still waiting for the invention of anti-social media.

Smitty

Can I post my address here? Any and all terrorists are welcome to come visit me at home. I would advise you pray the pitbull gets to you before I do, hes a lot nicer then me

HS Junior

You’ll be getting harassment from people worse than terrorists from the geographical locations Jonn listed if you do that. Just sayin’.

Joe Williams

I forgot to mention Baby Girl. My 160 lb Rotwhieler . She does not like people to come uninvited into her home or try to hurt her family. She is so big a female because out of German linage. Baby Girl is a gentle dog until there is a threat to (pack)family. Oh I have plenty of ammo and I will even arrange their visit to Allah. Joe

Jimmy

Let’s all look back at this silly “threat” in a year and see just how many servicemen/women were actually attacked. I’m betting it’s going to be zero.

Pinto Nag

It’s already happened. 2009, Little Rock Recruiting office, one private killed, one wounded. Home grown jihadist.

I haven’t read of any families attacked, but it’s not a far stretch that it could happen. Family threats/attacks are part of jihadist tactics.

NHSparky

Nidal Hassan, anyone?

2/17 Air Cav

So, threats of harm that put wives and children on edge are okay? It’s only physical assaults and killings that count? And, since assaults and killings of military service personnel have occurred in the US on multiple occasions, should we only count forward from today for purposes of your bet?

FatCircles0311

Now if the government would just label this cyber bullying shit would hit the fan and there would be arrests.

Would that be Islamophobic?

Grimmy

Any effort or activity meant to limit or reduce the enemy’s ability to harm yourself or your kith/kin is not only islamophobic, but racist too!

Hate Crime stuff. The Feds gonna get you.

2/17 Air Cav

Hey, here’sn idea. How about Jimmy goes on FB, Twitter, Reddit, and whatever other such sites exist and pretend to be a USAF pilot or crewman who did the in Iraq or Afghanistan, or both. He might even borrow a ‘colorful’ snapshot or two to accompany his story. For added measure, he can casually mention that he will be at a certain place wearing something special (a red carnation?) so that his innocuous ‘friends’ can recognize him and say hi. I volunteer to hold his wager money while he does that.

Joe Williams

let’s see if I have my labels correct. A Med retired Marine with PTSD, low life poor Redneck,Islamophobic and Racist. Did I get it right?. Ooooh, I forgot crazy gun nut. Joe

Ex-PH2

It’s hunting season. Bulk ammo is on sale at Bass Pro and other sources. Better stock up.
