Not helping in Africa

Pinto Nag sends us a link from MSN which reports that Red Cross Aid workers were attacked while they were collecting for burial Ebola victims;

One Red Cross worker is recovering after being wounded in in the neck in Tuesday’s attack in Forecariah, according to Benoit Carpentier, a spokesman for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Family members of the dead initially set upon the six volunteers and vandalized their cars, said Mariam Barry, a resident. Eventually a crowd gathered and headed to the regional health office, where they threw rocks at the building.

The good news is that my son, who is in the Air Force and in the medical field hasn’t been told he’s going to Africa. The bad news is that someone else’s son or daughter will go wading into that mess. It looks like they don’t want any help over there. It will be difficult to jam it down their throats.

Here’s a video of an “escaped” Ebola patient wabdering through the local market and getting “captured” by a health team;

I have some sympathy for that poor guy, because he’s a dead man walking.

The ignorance and superstition running rampant over there will only get in the way of stopping this disease.

Sometimes I think we need a “Death Star”…just vaporize the whole lot of em, and start over.

Have to wonder if someday we will be worrying whether the African quarantine will continue working. There’s gotta be a coupla choke points where we can just wall the whole freakin’ ME/African area off and let Allah do his thing. We could give Israel someplace else in consolation…. Pakistan maybe?

SaraSnipe

It is like watching a trailer for a horror movie. I feel bad for the guy too.

SaraSnipe

A science fiction horror movie, but not fiction.

I fear that his will be mishandled and mismanaged from DC like Somalia was, you cannot help those who will not help themselves!

I have a personal stake in this fucked up idea of sending our troops there. I have a Grandson that is a tabbed Ranger Medic. Joe

Sparks

Joe Williams…If your Grandson goes, please let us know. He is in my prayers already. I thank him for serving.

We all have a personal stake in this mess.

The most recent estimate of rate of infection, if it is not contained, is 550,000 to 1.4 millions+++ infected by January 2015.

These people are extremely superstitious, uneducated, and have been through one civil war after another, which means that they do not trust anyone in authority. And if I read the news reports on this correctly, the actual numbers infected and dead (5,800++ infected, 2800++ dead to date) are lower than the actual numbers of people because many are hiding in the jungles and not coming in for medical help.

It doesn’t help that superstition and fear drive the locals to attack aid workers. And the video clearly shows how the sick man fought being put on that truck.

The disease is known to live well after someone has died. I’m not even sure that fire, used to cremate corpses, will kill it.

I think the idea of sending any US troops over there is the dumbest ‘feel good’ thing bodaprez has come up with to date.

Hondo

Read reports in the last 2 days that actual number infected is thought to be approx 20k, not 6k.

Given that and stuff like we see above (and the other attacks on assistance/education workers), sending 3,000 troops there to build a couple of hospitals is like peeing in the ocean to try and raise sea level.

I truly pray they will give our troops strong ROE. Those being, if you or your group or post are being attacked for whatever reason, shoot to kill, but do not let yourself or your buddies be infected. It is harsh to the liberal left and the international groups who call us down for every perceived wrong doing ever but never ISIS for torture, murder and beheadings. I say keep a safe distance, figure a way to drop food and water to the infected and protect the medical workers there. But before that the rule should be, “Your first mission is to prevent personal infection at ALL costs. You do not want this disease or to bring it home to family and friends. Do what is necessary but protect yourselves at all times”.

Flagwaver

This is the same administration that told troops the reason for Green on Blue was because they were carrying weapons on the FOB. So, to defend against this, they turned their desks around.

Every troop is going to have to be quarantined for at least two months when they return from deployment. That is, unless they catch it over there and present symptoms.

Remember, all it takes is for Joe to do something stupid and catch it. Within a week, his squad is infected. Second week, the fireteam is infected. Third week, the squad is infected. Fourth week, the company is infected. Fifth week, first actual symptoms in the first troop, the battalion is infected.

And there isn’t anyone who says that Joe won’t do something stupid. Anyone who has ever worn a set of stripes for three seconds knows that Joe’s only purpose on the planet, besides to get on the nerves of his NCOs, is to do something stupid.

Ex-PH2

I don’t think Joe will even have to go so far as doing something stupid.

If Joe goes, something stupid will show up in person and do it to Joe.

And my answer for Ebola patients who escape quarantine, is the same as a death row prisoner escaping custody. Kill them.

Was over in Liberia on the UN mission there. Best way to make the locals take necessary sanitation and disease prevention measures is probably at gunpoint because they just don’t want to do them. Folk in Ivory Coast, Senegal and Ghana just shake their heads and call Liberia a 4th world country.

The local news media is not helping

http://www.liberianobserver.com/security/ebola-aids-manufactured-western-pharmaceuticals-us-dod

And the nuts here are crawling out of the woodwork to agree.

http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2014/09/liberias-largest-newspaper-accuses-us-of-manufacturing-ebola-virus-video/

Did y’all know that publication of a Canadian patent application based on an early gene sequencing project paid for by the US government is taken a proof, PROOF! that (you pick):

1. The US government is using this virus as a bioweapon.

2. The banks are using it as a bioweapon.

3. The US government created this disease

4. CDC “owns” Ebola, generally.

And here’s the corker:

The emergency authorization of a new PCR test for the virus on US personnel means that the US is keeping this test from being used on non-Americans.

And to think I used to laugh when the Sandmonkey railed on about the Egyptian conspiracy theories.

why cant we let them die…maybe once they do, it will be a 2nd world country (as opposed to a 3rd world)
