Sunday morning feel good story

Police line

This morning’s feel good story comes from Texas;

“I was sleeping in, trying to get my rest,” Wood told reporters after the incident. “I heard the door bell ring. I’m like, who is this? I hear a strong knock. I’m like, something going on. I get up, I hear stuff at the door, I’m like, something is happening. I went and got my gun.”

Avery Powell, 25, made his way into Wood’s home by kicking in the front door, breaking the hinges off and busting the door frame in the process.

With the 911 operator on the other end of the phone he held in one hand and gun in his other hand, Wood came face to face with Powell, local media reported.

Wood warned Powell to stop, but his warning was ignored. Powell continued to make his way toward Wood, who at that point felt he had limited options.

“Then everything went bad,” said Wood, still visibly upset over the entire incident.

While still on the phone with 911, Wood pulled the trigger, striking Powell a single time in the torso. And that point, Powell stopped, dropped to the ground and began begging.

“After everything happened, he was on the floor saying, ‘I want to call my girlfriend,’” Wood said. “I said, ‘Man, why did you do this?’ And he said, ‘I’m a thief.’”

And hopefully he never got to call his girlfriend before he went to the great ghetto in the sky !!!

Unfortunately, he is expected to recover.

Looks like the thief is going to survive, which the homeowner is grateful for; the poor guy was very upset about having to shoot the thief, but the thief didn’t leave him much choice.

“I want to call my girlfriend” !!! Really!!! Your girlfriend is doing Jody now that you’re in jail or the hospital. Your momma and girlfriend can’t help you now Powell. “I’m a thief”, gee who knew? You’re lucky home owner Wood, needs range time Powell. Face to face in daylight, in my home, uh no, don’t think so. We wouldn’t have been exchanging pleasantries. The two holes in his heart would be getting in the way of the “hey how ya doing today”, stuff. I won’t fire my weapon holding a phone to my ear talking to 911. They can figure it out when they get there and I tell them my story, the ONLY story left to tell. Two hands, good control, watch your breathing, calm down and until it doesn’t move anymore…

Expected to recover, huh? A good reason for Wood to spend a little more time on the range. The intruder/thief might come back, and may experience some better placed rounds.

I live about 25 minutes from there(Willowbrook/Tomball area), and that’s definitely not a bad part of Houston. It just proves the point why one should be prepared.

Hey I live on Louetta! Let’s team up and shoot criminals.

David

That specific neighborhood is not that great a part of Houston… there are some pretty sketchy HUD apartment complexes around that end of town and Willowbrook is a high-crime area, largely due to those apartment inhabitants. (Not that it matters, in the automobile age the varmints can get anywhere in town within a half an hour.) Aren’t we glad they scatter the HUD apartments all over so we, too, can experience the joys of high crime? (I’m closer to Cypresss, guys – close enough to hear Hot Wells, if that gives you a clue.)

10thMM, I live on Louetta too! I don’t answer my door if I am not expecting someone, but I do grab my gun, just in case!

The homeowner only fired once? I’d be standing in a pile of .40 S&W cartridge cases by the time the POPOs arrived. After all, it is a righteous shoot.
