Monday morning feel good stories
Chief Tango sends both of stories this morning which come from Birmingham, Alabama. The first happened on Saturday;
Lt. Sean Edwards states that the suspect came to the home earlier in the day, inquiring about a truck at the residence. He left after talking with the woman who lived in the home.
He returned and approached the woman, who was outside. He then forced his way into the home, demanding money. The woman pulled a small handgun from a side pocket of her purse and shot the suspect in the hand.
The second happened on Monday;
When they arrived, they found a man on a front lawn suffering from several gunshot wounds to the chest. He was taken to UAB Hospital for surgery, but died from his injuries Friday evening. The victim has been identified as Jake Nelson, Jr., 37, of Birmingham.
Police received information that the home where the shooting took place was burglarized but were told conflicting stories after talking to witnesses and the resident’s owner.
By Thursday, they had cleared the shooter/victim;
Edwards says homicide investigators presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. Edwards says the district attorney’s office decided no charges will be filed. Evidence gathered during the investigation rendered the death of the victim as justifiable, according to Edwards.
