Thomas Roger Johnson; the “Super Marine”
You might remember a few months ago the story of our buddy Bob Massie at MyServicePride who occasionally advertises with us for his items that you can buy with your military awards on them. This Thomas Robert Johnson fellow tried to order a coffee mug or something with the above “rack” and Bob sent the dude to our other buddy, Taco Bell, a retired Marine Corps pilot. Taco contacted Johnson by phone and you can hear the phone calls at this link. Johnson claimed that he was a full bird Marine Colonel with 31 years of service, and that he’d been a POW in Vietnam. Well, it turns out that his records contain a lot of admirable stuff and this may be the worst case of needless embellishment known to man;
He had participated in the evacuations of Americans from Saigon and Phnom Penh, Cambodia at the end of our involvement in Southeast Asia and he earned his Combat Action Ribbon, but he didn’t spend 31 years in the Corps. He had 8 years in and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. His “rack” contains a lot admirable stuff, but no where near the amount of stuff he wanted to decorate his car dealer office;
Oh, yeah, he sells cars, but not according to his LinkedIn Profile, so he hasn’t learned his lesson about lying yet.

This is less and less the verbage of a rational adult attempting to make a ( fallacious ) point, and more the school yard screams of a petulant child.
You can troll, you can deny the logical arguments, and you can ignore the point and continually redirect the main issue and try to lead the conversation down a hundred unrelated rabbit holes, but it does nothing to change the reality that Thomas Roger Johnson Lied.
You can be his cheerleader and apologist, but you will not change the minds of the individuals in this forum.
And that it what you want; for everyone to kneel in agreement with you as the sole arbiter of what should and should not be considered stolen valor.
Clearly you have a much lower standard than those present…and that’s fine, whatever you can live with I suppose.
But don’t assume the rest here will lower their standards to meet the standard you have set for yourself in your life.
Good morning All! Now that I’m having my first cup of coffee, I will respond to your allusion that I’m without any principles or ethics. Here’s a thought “If we make judgments without showing mercy, then no mercy will be shown when we are judged!” I made no apologies for homeboy; I got it he lied. I would have given him the opportunity to come clean. I just don’t judge his actions or let it wreck my life like some of you. Some of you need to get rid of this Freikorps temperament out of your head; you are not saving the country by bashing someone over the internet over a coffee cup. You’re not active duty anymore; the same rules do not apply out here in the civilian world. I suppose a certain amount of you get some gratification by verbally lashing out at people on the web just like you were back in uniform. I feel that we’ve beaten a dead horse on this topic, so this is my last post. The posse can continue criticizing without further comebacks. I’m going to write about another debate and not even take up this issue.
They originally did, Tom. They called the guy and asked.
He lied to their faces, until they showed him they had the goods on him in a follow-up call. He promised to send documentation, but never did. Then in yet another follow-up call, he denied making those claims – and then came up with another even more ridiculous lie as a cover story.
Despite your protests to the contrary, it’s obvious you’re OK with him being a liar and never facing any consequences for same. It’s a free country, so you’re entitled to that opinion.
Just remember: you’re the one who has to look at yourself in the mirror every morning. Hope you enjoy what you see.

This asshole did have an opportunity to come clean and you would know that if you had listened to the phone conversations that were taped. It is obvious to me that you did not bother listening to or reviewing any existing evidence, after all, by your own admission you are too lazy to look up The Stolen Valor Act of 2013. I was thinking, which I sometimes do for the fun of it.
If ol’ Tom is doing his master’s in whatever, with his lack of basic skills in English grammar, punctuation and possibly spelling, he’ll need an editor for his 14-page thesis. Unless he intends to plagiarize a major portion of it, he’ll have to note his references in the bibliography. And he’ll also have to sit for his orals, if they still do that at the graduate level.
Both of those may pose a problem for Tommy Boy.

Stolen valor is a huge problem. While at first glans it may not seem to be a big deal the reality is that this problem ripples and creates much larger issues.
Examples are people who claim false awards or tell tales of grand acts of heroism very often have told these same tales to the va and are relieving benifits that they don’t deserve. They are stealing not just honor but money from the public. They are stealing the time of the staff from vets that baby need the services.
They seek attention, they get their false cliams published as fact. They are stealing the true history.
Yet you advocate sitting by and doing nothing. Fine don’t complain when we have elected officials who are frauds, when history is taught wrong or about excess spending . You give up that right bay saying this isn’t that big of a deal

Instead of “Stolen Valor” it is “Stolen Stupidity” It’s where some blathering tool gets on a thread, defending some still-born chode’s actions and hijacks the thread to be about them.
My employer, who I respect dearly, said this:

I don’t know if that’s a quote from someone else or not, but I never forgot it.
