The new Cold War
I spent a lot of time in Europe leading up to the death of the old Soviet Union when they used covert operations to undermine the US’ influence on the continent. They funded overt terrorism (Red Army Faction) as well as covert operations amongst the hippies and local protesters to turn the public opinion of our hosts against us. Since the Soviet Union fell, their connections to the terrorists and to the European peace movements have been documented, as well as their connections to US peace movements.
Apparently, those lessons weren’t lost on the succeeding nation. Foreign Policy says that the Russians are funding the anti-fracking drones behind the scenes in order to maintain their grip on the European economies;
“I have met allies who can report that Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engage actively with so-called non-government organizations — environmental organizations working against shale gas — obviously to maintain European dependence on imported Russian gas,” NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen said after a Chatham House speech this week.
[…]
But one thing has for years puzzled energy experts: Well-organized and well-funded environmental opposition to fracking in Europe sprang up suddenly in countries such as Bulgaria and Ukraine, which had shown little prior concern for the environment but which are heavily dependent on Russia for energy supplies. Similar movements have also targeted Europe’s plans to build pipelines that would offer an alternative to reliance on Moscow.
“It’s very concrete; it relates to both opposition to shale and also trying to block any alternative pipelines with environmental challenges,” said Brenda Shaffer, an energy expert at Georgetown University.
“There is a lot of evidence here; countries like Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine being at the vanguard of the environmental movement is enough for it to be conspicuous,” she said.
Europe’s heavy dependence on Russian energy sources makes them vulnerable to political pressure from Russia. Witness the empty threats in regards to the annexation of the Crimea this last winter from our European allies. Of course, local fracking is a real threat to that dependance on Russia’s oil and gas resources. So it’s back to the Cold War tactics that worked for the Russians, to some small effect, decades ago.
Hippies are such useful idiots.
Category: I hate hippies
Disinformazia is alive and well….
They’re not the only ones drumming up opposition to fracking, don’t forget the Matt Damon movie a few years ago that was funded by the UAE government.
Matt Damon (said using the puppet voice from “Team America”) is ostensibly an intelligent and well-read individual, which begs the question: what kind of douche is he?
A) A well-spoken idiot with delusions of genius who thinks that he’s intelligent because he’s somewhat good at pretending to be somebody he’s not for 3-8 minutes at a time in front of a camera while somebody tells him how to do it.
B) A shameless, two-faced, elitist, hypocritical asshole who deserves to get the living fuck beat out of him.
So basically MSNBC is a Russian proxy?
That would explain how they continue to operate with such a horrid market share of legit revenue.
“Hippies are useful idiots”
No truer words have ever been said. The Russian economy is almost entirely based on their energy resources. Any competition to their energy sources would be devastating and it would bring about a Soviet style economic meltdown. Drill baby drill. Frack the fucking shit out of this country and Europe. Let’s put Putin and the Soviets out of business. Economic warfare. It worked once before and it will work again. As for the dipshit environmentalist, go fuck yourself you bunch of smelly sniveling imbeciles.
When the Soviet bloc was crushed, quite a few of us observed that the good old USA was the last stronghold of communists. Sure enough, they kept the ideals alive long enough for Russia to regroup and rebuild. They seem to have concurrently destroyed a bunch of things in this country as they waited.
Kruschev predicted as much back in 1954. Norman Mattoon Thomas told us in 1984 how it would happen, “the American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of “liberalism,” they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”
Yep. The other benchmark that stands out is when Hillary responded (mid-90’s?) to a question of her inquiring if she was a liberal, “We prefer to be called Progressives.” Kinda sent a chill up my spine.
Does anyone else think Putin has an influence in America? Regarding our leftist, green energy, pie in the sky, no fracking, no drilling on our own soil, liberals. Or are ours just doing fine on their own without external help and pressures? I believe if Putin had a means to help us stay dependent on foreign energy sources, even helping the socialist left in America, thereby helping keep worldwide oil prices higher for him, he would use it.
Like I said when I posted this story on my FB page (well ahead of Jonn’s post) Putin is no fool.
His intelligence vs. Obama is enhanced quite a bit because Obama is a preening idiot. No doubt Putin is counting the days remaining in Obama’s presidency and will be treating each one as a gift.
Just another example of the flexibility Obama spoke of that he’d have after the 2012 election. Just look at the EO’s and EPA regulations that have been implemented, all without debate or Congressional approval.
Great discussion. What’s been forgotten is that there are guys like me
– I brag about having high level known Russian spies to my house and create opportunities to have them interact socially with friends with high level USG clearances
– I have regularly traveled to Russia starting just after being thrown out of the US Army and brag about my long history of meeting with members of the FSB and GRU (an organization that several newspapers believe have ties to the bombing of a US Embassy)
– I am somehow a regular guest on the RT Network which is arguably Putin’s international propaganda arm
– I make no effort to correct the idea that I have a high level USG clearance (which I don’t) so one can imagine the private conversations that my students might have with me in confidence
– I had access for years to the several SOF veteran’s organizations as their pro-bono lawyer giving me access to personal records, real names. etc. of some of the most high speed SOF veterans in the world…while I maintained close friendships with Russian intelligence.
– Given all of the above, one of the most well known police trainers who teaches about killing without ever having actually killed anyone (LTC Dave Grossman) in the US STILL vouches personally for me which. other than the obvious financial relationship, should make you wonder what Grossman’s deal is.
Just repeat after me….”Russia is our friend” and keep believing that Russian Spetsnaz sees value in whatever combat experience I bring to the table after my blood soaked 58 day military career in basic training. “Russia is our friend”….now you are starting to get to get it. Oh, and keep giving me money.
Sincerely
John “Faker 6” Giduck
