Too priceless not to share (A Dear Chuck Z production)

| November 10, 2008

Got this email from a friend this morning:

My friend’s husband is telling her that because he was a tanker in Iraq, he 1) may not be able to have children, and 2) if he can they may be deformed. This guy bleeds bs, so I wondered how much of this is?

My response:

Probably true, I never met a tanker with any testicles.

Then I remembered that Chuck Z was a tanker, and asked more info. This is what she sent me, discussion between her and her friend:

Friend: had a tough convo with [hubby] at lunch about babies

me: uh oh

Friend: I have to get my IUD out and I went today, but I have to go through all this insurance drama to get another one. So I hinted to [hubby] that I should just get this one out and see what happens
since he was a tanker and there’s the whole “may not be able to have kids” thing

me: yeah…

Friend: well, turns out that he may or may not, that’s true, but there’s also a chance that if we did have kids, they could be deformed. He never told me that but he didn’t mention that he just has to get checked, so it was instant flood of tears and not EVER being able to have another baby but then he said that he could get checked at a fertility clinic and see how things are in that arena, but when he left the army, they weren’t good so now I have to decide if I want to get him checked or just get another IUD and not think about it for awhile and i don’t even know where to start

me: well you have every right to request that he get tested, just to know where you stand. even if not right now, you shouldnt have to be constantly worrying about the future now, why exactly does he think he can’t and deformities?

Friend: he essentially got radiation poisoning from working in the tank. When he did his exit physical, they did a test and he had a really low sperm count and a lot of deformed sperm. It can get better, but they never know how long it will take or if it will.

OK, talk to me readers. Who thinks the dude is full of crap? Bear in mind my friend reads this blog, so what should she tell her friend?

What’s he hiding??

Anonymous Lucy, if you will

I’m thinking there’s a tad bit of BS going on or there could have possibly been some valid information given that was processed wrong. If it were my husband, I’d go for the latter. Not being rude, just being honest.

Husband isn’t a tanker and never was, but I throw my two cents on the general “low sperm” part.

If he has naturally low sperm count, they don’t come up. There are no magic pills, wizardry or fairy dust that will make it better. It’s not IMPOSSIBLE to get pregnant with low sperm count, but you gotta get it just right. If radiation did indeed cause his low sperm count, from what I understand, it can take up to two years to get ’em back right. Deformed ones? Don’t know about that I thought that was because of my husband’s gene pool (Just kidding!)

It’s definitely an interesting topic and I’ll be checking back to see what comes of it.

Not that it’s relevant, but we had a guy in my husband’s unit who told his wife he was a gunner on their deployment. He wasn’t…not even close…they were builders. Another told his girlfriend he had a heart attack, which is why he didn’t call her for a week. Nope. Granted those are extreme and I certainly hope for your friend’s sake there was some miscommunication going on. Not having a biological child isn’t the worst thing in the world. How do I know? I’ve got the most beautiful daughter who joined our family via adoption in 2006. A plus? You get to drink at your baby shower. Cheers 🙂

Good luck to all involved…..

TSO: “A plus? You get to drink at your baby shower. Cheers.”

If I could give out T-shirts for comment of the day, you’d have just gotten one.

It’s obvious the guy doesn’t want kids and is afraid to just tell her, “NO!” He made a cock&bull story up about some tragedy in the Army, so she wouldn’t hound him. It’s as simple as that.

“Probably true, I never met a tanker with any testicles.”

LOL! OUCH. That’ll leave a mark.

Kathy

Well if there were tankers with testicles, baby tankers would be popping up everywhere…

If he had radiation poisoning, sperm would be the least of his problems. I’m a chemist – so – just sayin’.

I call BS on this whole thing.

But if I had a low sperm count, was married to a… ditz … and didn’t want to cop to it, I’d blame the army, too.

Naah, probably not. I’d blame the marines.
