NRA; universal concealed carry leads agenda
The National Rifle Association opened it’s meeting this week with a call for universal concealed carry legislation to make permits from one state legal in all states that have concealed carry permits. Of course, all 50 states have concealed carry permits these days, now that Illinois has joined the 21st Century. Of course, there’s opposition from the hand-wringing hippies, reports the Washington Times;
Opponents fear the measure would allow more lenient gun regulations to trump stricter ones when permit holders travel across state lines.
“It’s a race to the bottom,” said Brian Malte, senior national policy director for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. “It’s taking the lowest standards.”
The push for reciprocity comes as the gun rights lobby is arguably stronger than ever before, with more than 5 million dues-paying members.
My permit allows me to carry a concealed weapon in 36 other states, but 13 states are scared of me. Of course, I do my best to spend no money in those states.
My Senator Joe Manchin introduced a bill for universal concealed carry to the Senate in 2012, an election year. I don’t why he hasn’t in the last two years – maybe because he doesn’t have to run for office again until 2018.

The primary barrier to universal reciprocity (other than granola-brained liberals) is the training requirement. My permit isn’t recognized by several states with otherwise carry-friendly policies because my state doesn’t require a training class for a permit.
Never mind that every one of those states exempts military/vets and former LEOs from that requirement.
Me personally, I think the class is a good idea. I’ve spent enough time on public ranges to be a little wary of just anyone going and getting a carry permit. Can you say muzzle awareness?
RangerX…so you’ve been on the range too when that happens. Here’s how it goes…failure to fire…guy turns to the face the firing line with “hey what’s wrong with this thing?” That’s why Range Safety Officers need clubs.
I’ve seen that happen. The idiot with his finger still on the trigger can’t figure out why everybody else suddenly dives for the floor. Then he thinks the RSO is being a dick for kicking him off the range.
As pro-2A as I am (extremely), there are nevertheless some people out there who are too stupid to be armed.
FatCircles0311…as I’ve written before about drivers from Oregon and Idaho coming into the state. Some check their brains and driving skills and the state line weight station. For those Idaho “Potato Heads” and Oregon “Onion Heads” I say not EVERYONE with a license to drive should be able to carry a weapon. Listening to them ahead of me in the McDonald’s drive through when they order a “Double Whopper with Cheese and Onion Rings” and the person has to remind them they are at Mcds not Burger King across the street, then they say, “oh really, well what do you guys have then?”. By which time I am chewing on the steering wheel! (Because…they’re sitting RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE FUCKING MENU READER BOARD) So I have to vote no on motor-shooter like I did on motor voter. 😀
I universally carry anyway. If I need it to defend myself or family. I’d rather ask forgiveness later, while we are still alive, than be a victim and statistic.
If only our current elected and/or appointed government officials would honor their publicly sworn oaths, and obey the existing legal restrictions clearly specified within our divinely inspired Constitution of the United States of America, there would be no need of any proposed legislation to permit or enforce that which we already have unalienable rights to do.
AND – – – ,
Since the employees of our government have been habitually ignoring our unalienable rights and the legislation which is ALREADY on the books – – – ,
If the newly proposed legislation were successfully enacted into law, what makes anyone think they’re suddenly going to start doing it now?

SPARKS, you’re doing what every responsible follower of Jesus Christ should do.
Congratulations!
Good enough for drivers licenses why not good enough for a constitutional right.
Dicks behind automobiles kill a hell of a lot more people than CCW permit holders that’s for sure.
