Boko Haram strikes, kills 71 in Nigeria

| April 14, 2014

Pinto Nag sends us a link to an article from NBC News which reports that 71 people have been killed by the local al Qaeda-affiliates, Boko Haram, which according the article means “Western education is sinful”. Nice.

Security experts suspect the explosion was inside a vehicle, said Air Commodore Charles Otegbade, director of search and rescue operations. The bus station, 8 km (5 miles) southwest of central Abuja, serves Nyanya, a poor, ethnically and religiously mixed satellite town where many residents work in the city.

Not to mention “defenseless”. Good thing that al Qaeda has been decimated, though. CNN says that Boko Haram has murdered over 1500 innocents this year.

This pisses me in more than just the obvious ways. Folks are going to think Procol Harum was behind the attacks and sully the name of a really great band.

Anybody think we’ll go “big game hunting” in Nigeria any time soon? Or will we wait until Boko Haram gets enough leadership, adherents, and money to make an attack on the US, like we did with OBL and Al-Qeda?

I have a feeling that’ll happen in Syria and Libya before it happens there. The international terrorism presence there is fairly low from what I understand; the Boko Haram are roughly analogous to the Taliban. Al-Qaeda linked and affiliated, but their vision only really extends to turning Nigeria into a caliphate and not much more. Syria and Libya, on the other hand, are chock full of international terrorists from al-Qaeda, they have developed infrastructure, and they’re far more strategically located. Libya controls substantial oil reserves and has WMDs on its soil and is on Europe’s doorstep as well as bordering Central Africa, so they can bring in fighters and resources from there. Syria is extremely close to Israel, Europe, and the Gulf States as well as the radical Arab financiers who give those rat bastards money. If I were al-Qaeda, I would be concentrating my resources in those places, which is what they appear to be doing. Just my idle midnight speculation.

You know everyone beat me to the punch for the Procol Harem thing. Here I thought I was going to be original.
