Fort Hood is “Blackhole”

Geetwillickers, Dominick and Sporkmaster send us a link to an interview on CNN’s Brooke Baldwin in which they interview a disgruntled soldier. She says that Fort Hood is a “black hole”, whatever that means. She’s been on Fort Hood for four whole months and she says that inmates in prison have it better than soldiers on Fort Hood.
She added that base officials and military personnel in the Pentagon should be more focused on the quality of life soldiers have at Ft. Hood. “We lose our sanity knowing that we don’t get paid enough to work as much as we do,” the solider continued. “I could be flipping burgers right now and make more money.”
If she’s an E-3 with less than 2 years of service, she makes about $11.30/hour, $21,000/year. I think that’s a little bit better than what she’d earn “flipping burgers”. I didn’t like my time at Fort Hood, either, but it was because I wanted to be light infantry and there wasn’t any light infantry at Hood when I was there. But, it was the only place I was stationed where I could take my fishing poles to work and hit the lake after duty hours. They had a great recreation area. Hood was about an hour from Waco and Austin – you know, the big city for night life.
She says that she doesn’t blame Ivan Lopez for going on a shooting spree because Fort Hood made him nuts. Yeah, well, thousands, if not millions of us have been stationed at Hood without going on a shooting spree. The military should seek out this complaining private and check her out for her predisposition to go on a shooting spree.
She says that she’s a “military brat”, but I guess she was unconscious most of her life. Oh, and by the way, CNN probably had to really work to find someone as stupid as this woman. She has about as much useful information to add to the discussion as if they had interviewed Sponge Bob about life at Fort Hood.
Heading home… But keep thinking about this young solider. Have close family in military but this… frightened me: http://t.co/Ho1yoYY0s5

I noticed on the news they show pictures of the entrance sign that says, if I recall right, “The Great Place”. I wondered where that came from. I’ve never been posted to Hood.
Another self absorbed dimwitted private who needs to heve their ass PT’d off for as long as it takes to adjust that attitude.
I have a nephew at Hood, he loves it down there and is considering staying in texas after he ETS’s
Then get the F*ck out!! No one forces you to join. I’d bet my military retirement this dumb, ungrateful soldier wouldn’t be better off without what the Army provides. From my experience probably a certain minority with an attitude problem. Trust me sweetheart, we-the real Soldiers-don’t want your likes either. GET OUT.
Its comments like these that are the reasons why these Soldiers feel the way they do. I’m not defending this Soldier’s actions. That Soldier is not being led. It’s easy to say someone is ungrateful when you don’t understand the situation. Do you think that a Soldier would go to CNN instead of her leadership if there was a line of trust and respect between them? That is the failure. No one taught this Soldier to work problems from the inside and use the tools you’re given to fix the problem or initiate change. No one guided the Soldier through the process of getting in touch with the right agencies to knock on her command’s door. Do you know how many Privates are mumbling about pay? She’s been out of Basic for 4 months. That would make her an E1 or E2. 18K- 20k a year. She’s in the barracks so no BAH or Subsistence. Subtract taxes and SGLI and she’s right on the money with full time at McDonalds. The mere fact that she thought it was okay to go to CNN with this is just awful and a direct reflection of the leadership she’s getting. You’re right where you need to be- out of my Army with your toxic attitude. They need to cut you retirement pay and then we can judge who is being ungrateful. From my experience, you’re probably a “majority” that blames every minority for all of your problems in life.
Well said and put, I pray for all the soldiers. I have a son in there and I pray for not only him, but all the soldiers. Your comment was right on target. Sometimes not only in the Army but all jobs we get so Complacentuntil we are unware of our surroundings. When we are in a certain status we forget what it was like to get there, or some of us did not have to go through what others have. You don’t just tell people to get out and tell them they are ungrateful. People join the Army for different reasons, but the greatest reason is they chose to serve our country and put their life on the line just like everyone before them and coming in after them. It’s leaders like you who make the Army a hard place to survive. I say to all the leaders in the Army communication is the best policy. Talk to your young soldiers and understand where they are comming from. We as human beings sometimes need to take a reality check and look at our own life. Sometimes we are bitter for other reasons and take it out on others. I take my hat off to all of our soldiers, but at the same time I think the soldiers retired or not need to respect one another. For the person that said get out you may be apart of the problem than the solution. Thak you for serving our country but you need a real reality check.
Enjoy your retirement
You might want to check your numbers, “Ashamed”.
Last time I checked, Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr. I believe that’s what McDonald’s pays pretty much anyone except managers.
5×8 employment (5 days a week, 8 hrs a day) comes out to 2,087 hrs/year (the odd number is due to leap years). That works out to $15,130.75 annually.
An E2 gets monthly base pay of $1,716.90. That’s $20,602.80 annually – plus free lodging, food, and medical/dental care. And you sure as hell don’t get the last 3 working at McDonald’s.
Bottom line: I’d have to see the numbers to believe she’d be “better off working at McDonald’s”.
Hondo, you are exactly right. While you don’t exactly make a great deal of money, it’s still enough to live comfortably when you take into account that you get free lodging, food, and medical/dental. I think this soldier was complaining about Ft. Hood not fitting the lifestyle that she was used to. Which in that case, boo hoo. Concerned Mother and Ashamed are way off base.
Oh fer chrissakes…..Ft. Hood is not that bad. Spent 3 1/2 years there and I didn’t kill anybody…..
I saw that interview as it happened. I was pretty insulted for the Ft Hood families. At some point, that interview needed to stop. The reporter should have had enough respect to not air that crap. I pray that they find that disgruntled soldier and allow her to go flip those burgers. If she REALLY felt strongly enough she would have not hidden for the interview.
Respect? CNN? Are you on dope? (H/T Mr. Hand)
I grew up in that area (dad was with 6th Air Cav and 1st Cav) so I’m a little familiar with Fort Hood and the surrounding area (I will admit that Killean does kind of suck). You have to work hard to be bored/disgruntled there. Sounds like PFC TJ McChucklenutts thought the Army was going to be unicorn rides and happy bunny hugs.
Wait, you grew up in the area, yet don’t know how to spell Killeen?
The only reason she’s in the Army is because the recruiting station was along the way to her McDonald’s interview. We should do our very level-headed best to ensure she gets her wish to flip burgers for the rest of her self-absorbed life. You should expect such drivel from today’s soldier though. All of their lives they’ve been taught that everyone is a winner, there are no losers, and everyone is okay. It makes me sick to my stomach.
It looks like the CNN crowd got what they were looking for, some soldier who is pissed that she didn’t get her first choice for her duty station and was willing to bad mouth the Army and Ft. Hood because of it.
I also noticed the distinct lack of a combat patch. Sister, if you think that Ft. Hood, with the commissary, clubs, and exchange on post, the shopping mall and restaurants just off post, Austin an hour away, and the ability to sit in a car and to have a duty day that allows you to BS with a reporter while the sun is still up is a black hole, you would have been balled up in the fetal position if you had been with us at FOB Kalsu in Jan 2005. It made Hood look like Disney World.
If you think that life would be better flipping burgers, go right ahead and do that after you finish your first enlistment. We all know that you are going to be screaming to the first college that will accept you so you can spend your Post 9/11 GI bill, though, because that was really your desired end state all along.
I thought the soldier was the chick in the pic. Turns out she’s the reporter. After listening to the whiny, uninformed, absolute nonsensical bullshit spouted off by the gravel-voiced female reported to be a soldier stationed at Fort Hood (She doesn’t blame Lopez for killing innocents!), it’s no wonder no one watches CNN. For all we know, that isn’t a soldier and, if she is, she ought to be fairly easily ID’ed. There are many eyes. I especially like her conclusion that a prison inmate has it better than a soldier at Fort Hood. And she knows this how? Total bullshit.
I remember once as an OC at Irwin (yes, I wanted to go there), I was giving the good news AAR-style to a 2LT FIST team leader. His Brigade Commander came by in the middle of it. As the FIST-V drove off, the Colonel started to commend me, his hand going into his pocket, no doubt for a coin. He said he had places at Hood for me. I told him I’d sooner go back to Korea than Hood. I didn’t get that coin.
I did 21 years and managed to only do two weeks at Hood. It wasn’t because I “hated” the place. I just didn’t want to go to Texas. The place is huge and there is plenty to do in and around the post. If it is a black hole it is because princess here doesn’t have red carpet rolled out for her every place she visits. PFC Entitlement here needs to grow up.
FistSFC,
I was a Green Team platoon-level OC when we invented the Scorpion, Cobra, and Dragon call-signs. Actually, I was the one who suggested the scorpion, and based that on the LRDG; also started the numbered buckles (mine is #000) Great times. Loved my jeep … loved my Sheridan much more — especially on midnight movements with armor-heavy infantry.
Blew up my jeep (pyro went off) by accident at the base of a hill where the Brigade-level AAR was happening. Woo-hooo!
Scorpion-13,

Unauthorized contact with the press IN UNIFORM:
1. UCMJ
2. Comments were so off the rails.
3. She needs to be removed.
4. Her goose is cooked
5. Voice is easily identifiable.
6. Seek her out!
She was unprofessional and way out of line and should be disciplined.
But she was correct.
Ft. Hood sucks.
Never been there … but I have been to many crappy places … I sucked it up, did my job and moved on!
Oh and I doubled my income by flipping burgers, bartending and doing odd jobs!
Just sayin’!
Wow. In four months, this little General has managed to get a better grasp of what’s going on at Ft. Hood than I was able to in 6 years. I feel sorry for her NCOs. I’m sure she’s a whiner at work too.
On a separate note, I read that the shooter was assigned to the 49th Trans Bn. I did some work for them way back then when they were the 49th Movement Control Center. Got a real good looking coin from them (Phantom Movements!). Thoughts and prayers to all…
Are you sure that’s a “She”? because it sounds like a guy to me. (Not trying to be insulting, I’m being serious.)
If he/she doesn’t like their E-3 pay, they definitely won’t like their new E-1 pay coming soon.
CNN did this same crap while deployed, talking to Soldiers right after they got out of firefights and were saying things based on the blood pumping. She should’ve known better than to talk to the press while in such a state of mind.
And she might want to go back to Basic Training, but its not like the basic training of decades ago. Sounds to me like he/she shouldn’t have joined the Army at all. Probably did it because of being a military brat and was “expected” to join. I knew a couple guys in my basic who joined because their parents were E-8/E-9 and pushed them to join. They didn’t last so long of course.
And being on posts as a military brat vs being there as a Soldier is apples and oranges, not even sure why that was brought up.
It could have been transgenderened too or Charlie today or Charlette tomorrow … either way … he , she or it needs to be called in with hat in hand!
I sure enjoyed being at Fort Hood, Texas! At the time I reenlisted, I really wanted an overseas assignment, but Fort Hood was the only available option for my MOS. I graduated from III Corps NCO Academy, where I probably hold the record for getting the most demerits and still being able to graduate. Life in Texas was the inspiration for numerous songs I composed, some of which you can see at my YOU TUBE channel, or at my web site, “OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE”. Later, I transferred from the Signal Corps to the Cavalry, successfully completing OJT as a Cavalry Scout. I was married at Fort Hood, and my wife and I eventually lived in military housing on post. I took night courses at Central Texas College, and was a reserve police officer in Copperas Cove. There were LOTS of major events at Fort Hood, which my wife and I both enjoyed attending, i.e., Armed Forces Day, the First Cavalry Divison’s birthday, the NCOA barbecue, et cetera. Yes, prior to my marriage, I did live in the barracks, and at that time, life there was VERY dangerous for White soldiers! In the years following my return from the Republic of Viet Nam, troop morale was in the toilet, aggravated by rampant illegal drug use, and anti-White racial violence, news of which, was generally denied or concealed by the United States Army. In the barracks, I slept with a loaded .45 under my pillow, and later, even resorted to sleeping in my car, because there was no way to get any sleep or relaxation in the barracks, due to stereos constantly blasting Black music all night long, mingled with their intoxication and pervasive menacing animosity, all of which, the chain of command either would not, or could not, seem to effectively exercise any real control over. But, once I got away from the barracks, life was wonderful, and I loved being in Texas! A few of us Mormon guys rented an old dilapidated house out in the county, and there, we could enjoy peace and quiet, and have fun being Mormons,… Read more »
I couldn’t even finish watching the interview. To the reporter’s credit, she kept asking for specific examples of how quality of life sucked, how the command climate needed improvement, how Hood was a “Black Hole”. All she got in reply was a bunch of hackneyed catch phrases that meant nothing. Had the reporter had any journalistic integrity, she would have listened to that interview and realized that PFC Whiney had absolutely nothing substantive to say and deleted the file without further thought. However, she (and all of her editors and managers who approve this crap) decided to air the vapid list of complaints just so that they could brag about an “Exclusive” interview with someone. Because CNN. Because feelings.
OK, I am going to step off my soapbox now and go back to watching old WWF videos on Youtube… Much more realism and substantive debate to be found there.
I’m somewhat sympathetic to what this lady is saying. Just replace Fort Hood with Fort Polk. I went there for PLDC, and would have shot just about anyone to get out of there. That place is a fucking dump.
Someone’s going to take what I wrote above a bit too seriously. I wouldn’t actually kill someone to get off Polk, but I’d rather do another middle east deployment than go back to that shithole.
I’ve been to Polk for 3 rotations and even being there for 3 months was enough. You are right, it is a shithole in the middle of nowhere. However, Ft Hood is not Ft Polk.
I think a lot of us would rather deploy than go to Ft Polk again, much better food and living conditions downrange.
Wow, I was TDY for a few weeks at Hood last year and didn’t realize I escaped the Black Hole. There are far worse places in the Army to be – I’ll take Hood over Polk any day. As punishment for running her mouth she should be sent to Drum in the December/January time frame :).
Ahh Fort Drum for winter field problems…now that brings back some fond (albiet cold) memories…I think I still have my NCO Club card from Ft. Drum floating around somewhere…
Former 11B and Eric, how can you not love the home of Tiger Land and JRTC?
Never stationed at Hood. But regardless of the installation, it’s really what you make it. If this “Soldier” is unhappy at Ft Hood, then it’s probably her own fault.
Even Polk had it’s charms – Toledo Bend has some of the best bass fishing I’ve ever seen. Lake Charles is but an hour away, And Lafayette isn’t too much further.
Private Major reporting.
Raw and Uncut.
They will find out who she is, usually this day and age you get briefed before talking to media about things you can and cant talk about……..justice will be served..
Or someone is going to rat her out.
Thank you for your correcting comments on this interview.. I feel much better about how our military is treated!
I spent 5 years at Fort Hood. I won’t say I enjoyed every minute of it, I saw way too many gunnery ranges for that, but it’s nice to have a base large enough to fire just about anything from pistols to MRLS. When I was at Ft. Lewis, we had to go to Yakima for gunnery. 2 of my kids were born there, so I’d go back in a second.
One thing about Ft. Hood,it’s THE ONLY Army Post I’ve ever trained on where cease fires are called due to cattle downrange!!
We were running tank table 12 (platoon run) when 1 of the gunners “identified” the mover. Before anyone called cease fire he fired on and hit “the mover” Someone finally called cease fire and reminded him there are no movers on table 12…but there were cattle downrange, plus 1 scattered pile of hamburger….
I see a trip to the DMZ in her future.
DMZ, hell. Send her to Fort Living Room.
No, jerry920 – they don’t need any deadwood in Korea.
Maybe Camp Arifjan, KU, would be a nice next assignment for miss princess here. If she thought Hood was bad, she oughta love “Arifjail” – even if it was more like “Camp Cupcake” compared to Afghanistan or Iraq.
IDIOT!! I say send him/her/it to Ft. Polk for at least a year, and then little PVT Snotnose McSparklepony Swampdonkey can bawl all about how Ft. Hood “sucks”! And YEAH, he/she/it could use a good smoking in the back 40 of the Motor Pool as well. I’m sure that the Clinton News Network sought out the biggest snotnosed whiner Private they could!
Having spent almost a decade here, I can say its been getting worse and worse for most soldiers. Look guys, you have to realize that just because your experience wasn’t terrible, it doesn’t mean there aren’t major issues with Fort Hood currently. I saw horrible, horrible things happen to soldiers there. The quality of soldier is down, the quality of life is down, and that place is absolutely a shit hole. Rape, assault, crime, drug abuse, suicide are all on a steady rise on post. Leadership quality is falling. There are so many cover ups of abuse happening there it is absolutely insane.
I knew a soldier who committed suicide because he was getting shitty medical treatment. I knew several female soldiers attempt suicide because their command was covering up their rape and assaults. I saw many soldiers get denied medical treatment that they needed and further harassed and abuse by their shitbag superiors. The “buddy system” is in full effect and all the shitbag leaders form a protective network. It is disgusting, and I feel greatly for the junior enlisted soldiers who endure it. Most of the intelligent, good hard-working people I served with left the military without ever reenlisting because there simply was no reason to stay in such a fucked up organization when life is so much better on the other side.
Personally, I think Fort Hood is too big. There are too many units for III Corps to actually manage properly. Too many units and shitbag leaders are able to operate under the radar and get away with things that would never fly at other installations.
“She says that she doesn’t blame Ivan Lopez for going on a shooting spree because Fort Hood made him nuts.”
First fuck her…for saying that and I hope one of the family members of the slain or wounded give her a good, old fashioned, beat down for saying that. What an insult and slap in their face at this time of their grief and loss!
Next, I hope her Commander saw this little interview and has her in his/her office this morning talking Article 15, loss of rank, forfeiture of several months pay and a years extra duty. Extra duty in the mess hall, flipping burgers for a year!
Well I see a new candidate for the E-4 Mafia in the making. Fuck her up, down and sideways…but not with my man stick! Maybe someone else will volunteer. She’s got the “brat” part right though. She was a self absorbed brat before she entered the Army and she hasn’t changed one iota since. Fucking retarded idiots like her are what the media love to zoom in on. Now there will be all grades of side issue, human interest, stories about the deplorable “Black Hole” that she calls Ft. Hood.
She does not need to be in the Army! If she stays I say first plane leaving for Afghanistan…she’s on it!!! Fuck her!!! Bitch!!!
Sorry for the reactionary rant so early in the day folks.
Had to disable the smoke alarm in my office – the monitor was putting out too much smoke.
Interviews like that piss me off too because she is the one that TV viewers will see and assume that all Soldiers feel the same way. As John Wayne once said – “life is tough, but it’s tougher when your stupid”.
I vote for her to go to Ft. Polk. NOBODY I’ve talked to that has ever been there, whether for training or Permanent Party has anything nice to say about that place!
Fort Polk does suck.
I was in 3rd grade there around 1960. Had lots of fun catching crawdaddies. We lived on post, so I think I went to school on Polk. I just remember the crawdaddies.
–ghp
Must have been sometime after 1961, ghp. Polk was closed in the mid-50s and reopened in ’61 for the Berlin Crisis. My father was a Reservist in Baton Rouge at the time, and got called up to reopen the place, so the family moved to Leesville for a year. Was in 6th grade at West Leesville Elementary, got in more fistfights that year than the whole rest of my life combined.
Ft Hood, Ft Polk, Ft Drum, whatevah…
None compare to some of the isolated places overseas, and that was BEFORE AFG and IRQ.
It doesn’t even get cold at Hood, or at least not as cold as here: http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=32602
Little Mz Dimwit reminds me of some guys I was stationed with. We were in New London, Ct and it “sucked” but by coincidence we were both being sent to boats in Hawaii and it would be “wonderful”. Funny thing is, when I ran into them at Pearl, they were saying how much Hawaii “sucked”. Where ever you go, there you are.
LOL Sparky. I married a pissed off local. The first Ex.
I loved my time there and still enjoy going back as much as possible. Hopefully retire there one day.
I enjoyed everywhere the Navy sent me, always found it funny that guys would talk about joining the Navy to “see the world” and then spend their time trying to get stationed somewhere near home.
I was stationed at Schofield Barracks. The only ones that said Hawaii sucked were the barracks rats.
My son is stationed there now. He loves the place.
Roger that.
Service in the military is VOLUNTARY and all the info you need before you sign up is out there, including pay and benefits and lifestyle. If she doesn’t like it, she shouldn’t have signed up and should have applied at McDonald’s, although with that attitude, they probably wouldn’t want her either.
What was she expecting, a luxury hotel?
Hmmmm. Make more $$$ flipping burgers, eh? Well, for the young PFC’s benefit, let’s do something she’s apparently unfamiliar with – simple arithmetic.
Pay, E3, <2 yrs of service: $1,805.40/mo, or $21,664.80 per year. Plus lodging and rations allowance or housing/meals provided gratis.
For anyone that's not management, working at a fast-food restaurant is minimum wage employment. Minimum wage employment currently nets $7.25/hr most places, Executive Orders regarding government contracts notwithstanding.
A standard workyear for full time work (40 hrs/week) is 2087 paid hours. 2087 x $7.25 = $15,130.75. Further: medical care ain't free for civilians, youngster. Neither are meals and lodging - and there aren't any housing or rations allowances.
And finding a full-time gig flipping burgers? Good luck with that. Industry-wide, that's nearly universally an part-time job. Very few are full-timers.
“I could be flipping burgers right now and make more money.” Yeah, right. Yer making about $6,400 annually more today than you would be flipping burgers full-time, kid.
I’ve been to a few places, here and there around the globe, during my time as both an Army-Brat and an Active Duty Soldier. Everywhere, and I do mean everywhere, I went I can remember people bitching about how the duty station sucked. A prime example was Kelley Barracks (then VII Corps Headquarters, now it’s the home of U.S. AfriCom.) People whined and bitched all the time about what a crap assignment it was. Really? WTF? While Kelley was (and still is) a small barracks, it was and still is well equipped. We had a large, almost unused, B/W + Color photo lab, a large woodshop, a large mechanic shop, bowling alley, commissary, PX, two snack bars, an NCO and Officers club (and junior enlisted were allowed to use both of them during my time there) as well as a ton of other stuff. Plus, Stuttgart and the surrounding area was just a short streetcar or bus or taxi ride away. Anyone that claims a US Military installation (especially one in CONUS or Germany) is a blackhole is full of shit. We had a word for people like that, that wouldn’t get out and do stuff … “barracks-rat.” I’m willing to bet what this “soldier” is mad about is that it’s an hour trip to any good “party” bars in Austin. I’m also willing to bet this “soldier” isn’t willing to partake in any of the standard MWR functions or on-post locations like the Rod and Gun club, or photo lab, etc, etc. I bet this “soldier” never picked up a rod and reel and went fishing, or grabbed an old camera and used the photo-lab. You fucking reap what you sow. You sit around like a bump on a log then that’s what you become. If this “soldier” wants to trade civilian life for military life they can give me their legs and I’ll go serve at Fort Hood. They can come sit in my wheelchair and have all the civilian fun they want. And as far as the comment of not blaming the shooter because Fort Hood makes… Read more »
I went through Kelley a few times – not a bad place. Of course you also had Stuttgart right there, and the Black Forest area. I was stationed in Munich – sadly my Kaserne is long gone – and one of our soldiers actually complained about how bored he was!
3 things they need to start teaching, K-12:
1) life isn’t fair
2) no one owes you anything
3) take responsibility for you actions
I predict that life will now get more interesting for Miss PFC. I suggest to her to stop sniveling because it is unmanly, but …
Roger on Ft. Puke, LA being a less than peachy place. We used to have SAM batteries around our old WWII barracks, to try and keep the mosquitoes from carrying off any of the 11B students … we won’t talk about roaches so big, they sounded like an Armor Regiment on maneuvers, on the floor at night.
Fort Hood is a great duty station. I was there for 5 years. It’s located an hour away from one of the ebst cities in America, Austin Texas!
There is a mall, movie theater and a bunch of restaurants in the area. The post is big and nice.
I am am at FORT POLK RIGHT NOW!
That Solider does not know how lucky she has it.
Fort Hood = way better than Fort Polk.
Most young Soldiers gripe, They are far from home. they don’t have a lot of life experience and for some reason these new troops have a warped sense of entitlement.
Austin, TX? Don’t you mean the People’s Republic of Austin? (smile)
Anyone who complains about their duty station hasn’t been stationed at Wildflecken. I did 16 weeks at Polk (basic & AIT) two years at Hood, 2 years at Stewart, but none of them sucked as bad as Wildflecken. Truly, the only thing to do there was drink beer. It was some of the best beer in the world (Kreuzburg monastery), but still.
Were you with 108th MI or 2-68 AR? Or did you just come there for ranges prior to going to Graff or Hohenfels?
When I was in Berlin, we’d go to Wildflecken for six weeks or so and I thought it sucked, too. Then I got stationed there and found that it was actually a pretty good duty station. There were a lot of great little towns around Wildflecken. I really liked Bad Bruekenau, it had a couple of very good restaurants and bars. Fulda and Schweinfurt weren’t that far away either.
I was in 2-15 Infantry (3ID). They left Wildflecken in ’83 and supplied the Delta Companies for 3ID’s fourth company in each battalion for Divison ’86 restructuring. Bad Bruekenau was a nice town, that’s where our government quarters were. The Waffenkamer in Wildflecken proper had great jagersnitzel, so did Margaret’s on the way up the Kreuzberg Monastery.
That explains it, then. I thought maybe we were there during the same time frame. I was there from 89-92 with 108th MI LRSD. The only other Infantry element besides LRS was 2-68’s Mortar Platoon.
I had forgotten about the Waffenkamer – You’re right, great chow there.
I was station at Wildflecken with D. Co. 108th M.I. LRSD. I thought is kind of nice there. Graff on the other hand that sucked. I was there from 88 to 90. Team 2.
Two things any and every Duty Station are NEVER short on are rumors and gripes. My first Permanent Duty Station was Camp Pelham, Korea from 92-93. Yeah, it was a very small camp compared to Casey or Yongsan, but hey, whenever we weren’t in the field, I would get a Warrior pass whereas I could hop on a Korean train and be in Seoul in less than an hour and a half. I had fun traveling and seeing things there while the “barracks rats” sat around drinking and bawling. Others would use the MWR woodworking shop, others would take college classes or go over to the bowling alley at RC4,… There is ALWAYS someone bawling about how bad it is, how bad they’ve got it, but hey, ALL of us Vets here know that, and it’s obvious that the Clinton News Network newsmutt tried to find just that to do one of the things libs love to do, berate the US Military. I did Convoy Security in A-stan, my section was based at Camp Phoenix in Kabul, and while it wasn’t the poshest or fanciest place I’ve ever been posted to, it was Shangri-fukkin’-la compared to a LOT of the remote FOBS we could have gone to. And yes, there was constant bickering from the little snowflake Privates who thought that the US Army owed them the same things the Air Farce had at Bagram and Kandahar!
On another thought, maybe if the media libs keep harping on this, it could contradict the Dems’ wanting cuts in Military Spending…
Shit, I could go on all day on this, time for another cup of Joe…
Well, Ft. Polk was a dump (90 to 92) but we made the best of it.
Hell, we even made our own sand volleyball court in front of our barracks with our LRSD neighbors after a NTC rotation one pleasant summer. Needless to say, our BN SGM was PISSED!
Fond memories of Peason Ridge and Leesville for sure…
When we had MI assets deploy to Ft. Hood to support/ train up NG 3rd Brigade (in prep for deployment to Desert Storm) we got there and thought that they had it great in Texas!

I am no fan of CNN …but Brooke wins this one:
She should join the Marine Corps were quality of life isn’t even a term.
I bet there are quite a few US Marines that would kill for a US Army females quality of life on Fort Hood.
Less tears, honey.
“There is no base better than the one you just left or the one you’re about to transfer to; and, there is no worse base than the one you’re on.”
Forgive me, please, for ending a sentence with a preposition; but, that’s what a TSgt told me back when Ford was President.
Ignorant soldier’s too cowardly to show face. Typical.
Spend some weeks at North Fort, little girl. See how much you bitch about main post after that vacation time.
Both my roll-outs to Iraq, began with a lovely stay at North Fort, and the nightlife of Gatesville.
I wished they would have interviewed some smart-assed grunt who wanted to screw with their heads. Fort Hood is a Black Hole. We have to sleep in a Barracks on a fucking matress and we don’t get to crash out with just a poncho liner in a hole in the ground. They dont give us MREs and we have to eat Mess Hall Food, or get fast food. We have to take normal showers and cant just wash our balls in a canteen cup. they get pissed off if we dig a cat hole and take a dump behind the bushes at the Officers club. We only work 40 hurs a week and we don’t get to go out on patrols with full rucks.
To make thigs worse they are too many females around and we dont have anybody to fucking shoot at.
This place fucking sucks.
Eh, the most interesting thing about the video is that it made me want to see Brooke Baldwin naked… forget the rest of it.
it has nothing to do with the base it has everything to do with leadership when you come back from multiple appointments to tell you if you need to see someone to take care of it they tell you you will not be ridiculed for it but when you do go find help and try to get help for anything you’ve gone through wild in the plate they call you a dirtbag they say you’re wasting timethen they wonder why the soldiers are coming back home killing themselve or going on shooting spreesit’s the new leadership fault for not looking out for the soldiers

Puncutation, son. It’s your friend.
Should’ve read “Punctuation”
She should try getting stationed at China Lake in the desert or better yet do the Navy thing and have a coffin rack for her personal space before she thinks that living in the barracks is bad.
