Another feel good story for today

Joshua Joseph Silva

Several of you folks have sent us links to the tale of 26-year-old Joshua Joseph Silva who was minding his own business while shoplifting at the local Home Depot in Roseville, Michigan when the evil loss control officer interrupted his business. being a drug-addled miscreant, Silve was forced to defend himself with his only weapon;

At some point during the altercation, Silva allegedly pulled a concealed syringe from his jacket and began using it as a weapon.

Police say Silva was whirling the syringe around in a swinging motion, and was able to stab one of guards several times with the contaminated needle.

Another shopper who has a concealed pistol license saw the altercation and quickly sprung into action. Police say the man produced his handgun and ordered Silva to drop the syringe and get on the ground.

“Faced with the threat of deadly force, the suspect stopped fighting and complied with the order, dropping the syringe and taking a seat on the parking lot,” police said in a statement.

But when Silva, who apparently knew his arrest was imminent, heard the sound of approaching police sirens, police say he jumped up and attempted to flee the area on foot. At that point, the store guards let Silva run off, allowing police to take over.

A good guy with a gun. Imagine that. One of the security guards has been hospitalized for the multiple puncture wounds he suffered at the hands of Silva, and Silva is being held on $25k bail.

Sadly the likliehood is pretty good that he has been exposed to some blood born disease.
Dude stabs me with a syringe, he is not surviving.

Is it rabies where they have to examine the brain post-mortem?

Azygos

Yes but there has to be a brain to examine.

Sparks

Amen to that crewchief guy.

Flagwaver

If he does, then it is a potential First Degree Murder charge.

Just An Old Dog

I have a buddy who is now a Riverside County Deputy.
When he first became interested in Law Enforcement he dida ride-along with Oceanside PD. The Officer he was with ended up apprehending some druggie for something,
As he braced the guy up and was getting ready to search he told the guy ” Im going to search you now, It you have any needles or sharp objects you better tell me now, because Im I start searching you and something sticks me Im going to smash your fucking head all the way through that wall”.
The Junkie ended up pulling 2 needles from his pocket.

A syringe is considered a deadly weapon, because of the risk of bloodborne pathogens. He should have been shot, just as if he had a knife.

Most security guards make pennies for their efforts. Certainly not worth taking a risk for this little punk. The person with the permit did good. Halted the altercation, but didn’t drop the suspect when he was running away. Good ROE.

BOILING MAD CPO

This just in. No word reported in the Detroit Free Press that the Loss Prevention Officer was fired for doing the job he was hired to do. Guess Home Depot has more cuhones than any local WalMart. BZ
